Don't forget, Doug Pederson who was a backup QB under Brett Favre and Dan Marino won a super bowl as a head coach with a backup QB in Nick Foles for the Eagles. It's a position he clearly values very highly and rightfully so.
With Trevor Lawrence not being able to stay healthy for 17 games, it's a wise move. While Trent Baalke is certainly the GM in name and title, Dougie P is obviously orchestrating such moves behind the scenes.

If Josh McDaniels stayed in New England I could've seen the senario play out differently, but instead he blew up a second AFC West team 😂 so I'm not complaining. I’m a Pats fan from Massachusetts.. in theory, you could be correct but in actuality if you build a l O-line and WR positions you’re not getting a top quarterback prospect because you’ll be drafting in the middle of the first round.. you’d have to go through free agency and I hope you get lucky you have a number three pick you pick quarterback at 3 sit him for a year draft O-line in a rookie receiver, and also through free agency, and also get a veteran quarterback to help the rookie Qb along.. I don’t know why everyone’s in a rush to get the patriots back into the middle of the first round draft without having a quarterback

Quarterback "regression" is a funny concept.
In very few cases do I ever think they regress. In most cases, defenses figure out what they favor and take steps to stop it.
Usually they only really "regress" when they get shell shocked from being hit to much or when they suffer injury.
There are times that the team themselves nuke a QB with a new OC, one that changes the chemistry on the offense.
With Mac, I just think they got figured out and lacked the talent to adapt.

Pulling him out of the game over and over was obviously f#cking with his head. There really was no real long term upside to Zappe getting so much playing time. He is a backup, at best. Old guy here. I guess things do run in cycles. Patriots had terrible seasons prior to drafting Brady. That era lasted what 20 years, then he finished his career in TB winning a SB against Patrick MaHomes. Now he is retired and living the good life as the GOAT. So what happened to NE ? Couldn’t Belicheck keep the winning going without Brady? Apparently not. I think this answers the question about who’s really responsible for the Patriots dynasty. After Brady left, they tanked and now Bill Belechick is gone too, and not hired anywhere else for a HC job. At the present time, the NE Patriots are in shambles and back where they were before Brady arrived. The circle of life.

Watching what the Pats did to Mac, its like watching every QB the Bears have drafted in the past 4 decades. I know how yall feel. He had some potential, but rebuild time might be the right way to go now.

As a Pats fan, I feel bad that he didn’t have a better situation, but I’m not sad to see him go. They were just so bad with him game after game, and it never got any better. And when they put Zappe in, they looked better. There’s no reason for him to stay in NE. But I hope he gets another opportunity eventually, QBs get injured, maybe he’ll get to see what he can do with a better offense.

Patriots seem to be proving that Tom really did make up for a lot of mistakes. Pats are stupid to trade Jones. Trade the number 3 pick for an OL and a bunch of picks. Give Mac a team friendly extension and build a team around him. He's already proven he can play if he's in the right situation.

I’m very disappointed with our organization and staff for ruining Mac I’ve been a big believer/supporter for Mac I still remember the night he was drafted I was jumping up and down. I was so very happy that the best overall QB fell into our hands. I love Bill but I will never forgive him for his behavior and treatment towards Mac he Ruined any and all confidence in that young man and as a Pats fan I’m happy that he’s reaping the consequences for his actions. I will miss Mac and I hope he succeeds in this league 😔💔 so long Mac Jones Thank you for giving us Hope I hope Jacksonville treats you well ❤️

A better O-line, one maybe two good receiver threats and Mac could succeed. I agree with your points. I've been saying give him one more year under A new regime that will benefit him. Longtime Pats fan, it's sad to see how terribly he was taken care of after that rookie year. This is going to come back and bite them unless they draft someone golden off the start. Start of a new sport's curse? Only time will tell.

Patriots fan here. They have about 87 mil in cap space. I would like to be competitive again sooner than later by any of these methods :
    A. Draft MHJ, fix 0-line in free agency/draft, sign Michael Pittman Jr/calvin ridley/ Hollywood Brown (best available)and sign Kirk cousins/Russell wilson/baker mayfield/Gardner minshew (best available)
    B. Trade 3rd pick for Chicago's 9th and fields. Draft odunze, Nabers or bowers at 9. sign Michael Pittman Jr/calvin ridley/ Hollywood Brown (best available), Fix o-line in free agency/draft
    C. Draft Jayden Daniel's (abort qb first if caleb and Jayden are gone 1 and 2) sign Pittman Jr, fix o-line in free agency /draft, sign calvin ridley or Hollywood Brown (best available)

I'm a bears guy and I can see trading mac off that *BARREN ROSTER* 😅 . And, not trading back from 3 for more picks to fill roster holes like OL, WR, etc is foolish.
They could've gotten a thomas jr WR, a OT alt or fashanu, an additional 2nd round pick to get a OG in this DEEP OL draft. And, gotten another competent WR like a bubb means, coleman, franklin, etc
