I have the Hamilton Beach Durathon with retractable cord and digital readout. Best iron I've ever owned.
Very slick soleplate that never burns. Digital readout let's you know exactly when the iron is up to temperature. Produces a lot of steam without spitting or dripping.
I've always used tap water. Just have to use the self cleaning feature every few weeks. After you are done ironing, unplug iron from outlet and quickly hold down the self cleaning button over a sink for about 30 seconds aiming soleplate faced down. Rock the iron slighty and gently to try to get as much residue out. You may be surprised how much soot and calcium comes out. Just be careful not to get burned by the steam and water that drips out. Then carefully wipe the soleplate with a damp cloth to get all the stuff off.
The iron has lasted 5 years and still works great. Only problem recently is the retractable cord is starting to have trouble going back in. Can't ask for much more for 5 years.
My next iron will definitely be another Hamilton Beach iron.

Why Iron Indicator Bulb is turned on all the time? Normally it turns on when heater current is ON and after getting set temp, the bulb turns off. so why not in this case. Is sole plate remains turns On even on Off position?
