Lion King is 1 of my favorite Disney movies I can remember seeing the film in theaters as a kid and being mesmerised to me it's Disney at the peak of animation and will always be a classic in my mind
The remake is straight up disrespectful to the people who made the original so fresh, beautiful and inspiring. I thought that the OG would never be remade, for it's importance of Disney and animation as a whole, but bop, ultimately made a piece of shit that spit the legacy, trying to "capture the essence", which none of it was clear. And no, I'm not interested on the sequel, even though the director is so convincing.
I was in cinema at it back in time. I was 9 years old. Then 2017, live concert of Hans Zimmer, they played Lion King. 14000 people instantly started to cry, including me. Im 38 years old now.

This is by far my favorite Disney animated movie of all time. It's in my Top 10 Favorite movies of all time. The remake wasn't 1/2 bad. My wife loves the remake but she's pretty easy to please when it comes to movies anyway. When this movie came out I was working in a supermarket in the produce department and this movie played constantly on the TV in the VHS rental area which was in view of the produce isle. I practically have the movie memorized I've seen it so many times (or at least heard it so many times). Even still, it is one of my all time favorites.

@@LaytonEversaul I have the 1995 Laserdisc you addressed. Cool features but it doesn't mention that the movie was partially Katzenberg's idea, or the fact that Disney top animators turned down The Lion King to work on Pocahontas. I think Katzenberg's controversial exit from Disney may have something to do with this, or mentioning that nobody had any confidence in the project may have tarnished the film's legacy upon release. Now more information is out about the films trouble dproduction. The bonus features really show the basics on how an animated film is done.
@@patrickshields5251 Nice! That release had amazing extras - I'm still hunting it down for myself haha. Katzenberg had poor judgment at Disney, so I agree that this likely facilitated his exit.
@@LaytonEversaul Come to think of it, back in the 90's, Disney released a lot of collectors editions of movies in box sets on Laserdisc to give hard core film buffs informative extras. But some behind the scenes material seemed to be ignored for PR reasons, like the infamous Black Friday reel from Toy Story. Apparently John Lasseter really didn't want to talk about that scene back in 1996, so he decided not to put it in the Laserdisc.
