For me the biggest sin of all was cutting the scene where Simba scratch Shenzi in order to save Nala. It was something that made Simba feel like he deserved the role of king, putting his life on the line to protect those who mattered to him. Removing that scene in the 2019 movie made Simba just a whiny little lion who does nothing to earn his rightful place and made me really dislike him as a character as a whole...he just felt shallow and empty to me, just running away from his problems until Nala eventually brings him back for some reason...she went to look for help and all she could get as help as a stranded Simba living the Hakuna Matata life after doing absolutely nothing note worthy the whole movie...
They also take away the Birdie Boiler scene, where Simba actually goes back for Zazu, whom he's considered a nuisance throughout the rest of the scene. Not to mention the fact that they reworked Nala so that, even as a cub, she was overly responsible and constantly trying to convince Simba that the Elephant Graveyard is dangerous, unlike the original where she was just as hungry for trouble and mischievous as Simba. This made them come across as friends, whereas in the 2019 version, you see their relationship as one sided. Because, you know, Disney remake. Gotta push that female empowerment quota. Can't have sweet little be mischievous balls of wreckless energy with any emotional baggage - even though that's most of the protagonists in there stinking TV shows! Sasha: Hey, Anne...maybe you are better off without me. Marcy: I did it for us... (Anne's eyes widen) The day we left, your birthday, they told me my dad got a new job out of state. They were making me move away. They were gonna tear us apart! Anne: Marcy... Marcy: I-I found the box! I had no idea that it would actually work, (tearing up) but it did! (holds Anne and Sasha's hands) And-And it sent us to a place where we'd never have to grow apart, where the three of us could be friends forever together! (Sasha backs away from her in anger and disgust) Anne: How could you?! I've been missing my parents. My life! Marcy: (on the verge of tears) But, look at how much fun we've had! Look at how much you've both grown! Look at Sprig! I gave you this! I gave you EVERYTHING! (Anne shakes her head as she and Sprig back away from her in shock. Marcy collapses in tears.) I just... didn't want to be alone... Anne: Change can be difficult, but it's how we grow. It can be the hardest thing to realize you can't hold on to something forever. Sometimes you have to let it go. But of all the things you let go, you'd be surprised what makes its way back to you. Star: Mom! I... I didn't realize this would happen. I thought they wanted to know the real Star Butterfly. Moon: They don't, Star. They just want to believe that you're a perfect, little princess. And sometimes, the truth is dangerous. Mabel: Well, it's a horrible opportunity for me! I had the worst day of my life! When we turn thirteen, summer ends and I have to leave everything behind. You're the only person I can count on, and now you're leaving me, too!? Luz: Dear Diary, all I ever wanted was to be good at something, to be around people who also liked that something. And when I found the Demon Realm, I-I thought, "Wow, I found it. I can learn magic. I can be a witch. I-I won't be the dummy in the principal's office anymore!" But I messed up too much and put everyone in danger. Mama says I have to learn from my mistakes. So, I know what I have to do now… On Halloween, after the Hayride, I'm telling everyone I'm staying in the Human Realm. Permanently. Honestly, for all of Live Action Pinnocchio's faults, I did think it was cool to see girls in Pleasure Island. That's a good point, and while some people might just say, "well, that's just one little part," I felt that was a big deal as well. Not only did it show that Simba had courage deep down, but you could just feel the rage Shenzi instantly got because of how she emoted her reaction from that. Speaking of which, I am by no means a Whoopie Goldberg fan, (especially with her role on The View) but if there's one thing I will always be grateful for what she did, it's how well she did the voice acting for Shenzi. Even in The Lion King 1 1/2, she does a great job.
"The whole goal of animation is to communicate emotion in a way that reality cannot" Perfectly expressed. That was my essential problem with the photo-realistic visual of the 2019 version.
What I don't like about the CGI version of Lion King is that it is way too unexpressive. Those CGI lions are less expressive than real lions can be! Big cats, just like little cats, can sometimes be crazy goofballs. But no, that would feel unrealistic...
Personally the change of the hyenas not already knowing and trusting Scar hurts their arc. Scar blames the hyenas when he's finally cornered by Simba in an attempt to get him to sympathize with him/distract him long enough to attack him. He's unaware that they heard. The hyenas had known Scar for years before then, thinking of him as a friend and protector of sorts. That makes that scene another betrayal. The hyenas constantly put their lives on the line for him and he betrays their trust, culminating in the scene of them finally killing him. By making it where they have a pact instead, they don't really have a concrete reason to be with Scar through that far. They could have decided at any point to just kill him after he takes over the pride.
It’s funny because Jon Favreau who directed lion king 2019 also directed jungle book 2016 and jungle book 2016 felt like a love letter to the source material there was no love in lion king 2019 it is clearly A paycheck movie
To me, the lions always seem like they're on the cusp of falling asleep - that's how little life is in their eyes. Another home run, Dan! Really appreciated the Hammy Hamster reference.
Shenzi being the head hyena makes perfect sense because in hyena packs, the females are the natural leaders because they’re larger and more dominant. There - I said something nice about the movie 😂
That is actually a myth, hyena society is matrilineal and matrilocal, but not matriarchal, meaning that females usually stay within the clan and the rank of an individual is based on the rank of their mother regardless of gender, meaning a male who stays within his birth clan will automatically outrank any female that his mother outranked, with the exception of his siblings. Males are usually only lower ranking because they often leave their natal clans and join new ones for better opportunities of finding a mate, in this new clan, they are immediately bottom rank as they have no relatives to pass down their rank to. Additionally, when cousins or brothers leave together and join a new clan, they will often harass and bully higher ranking individuals, including females. Clans dominated by a male and only male hyena have also been recorded as well. Females and males are equal in size, although hyenas that stay within their natal clan are usually 1% larger than immigrant hyenas (which are almost always males) because they have access to better food, though this isn’t always the case, as hyenas live in fission fusion groups where low ranking individuals will often leave the clan to hang out on their own and hunt for their own food. Usually all only rallying together when a lion pride or enemy hyena clan shows up.
This movie, as a project, reminds me of those 90's Disney tape books. The ones where you had a book narrating the movie scene by scene, with single large images for both pages each time you flipped the page, and you had a narrator reading the book out loud for the kid. The idea was to help the kid learn how to read, but in all honestly the children would simply Zone out, look at the pictures and ocationaly some word from the tape will make the kid remember the MOVIE!...so what was the point of the book and audio tape? This movie is the same. What's the point of it, if all it will do is make you remember the original and point out how much better the original was

If only because it was something new for once, and it also reminded me of how much I hate…HATE the Live action Beauty and the Beast with a burning passion.
They had to change the gorge scene with Simba and Scar because of the change with Scar and the hyenas. Remember, in the original, Scar heard Simba's little baby roars when the hyenas were about to attack him because he was there watching it unfold from the shadows. Because the 2019 version changed this to have Scar not make contact with the hyenas until after he sent the cubs to them, Scar wouldn't have been there to hear Simba's little roars, so he wouldn't have even known about them. The original scene also serves to show how much trust little Simba has in Scar. He never even questioned how Scar was able to know what his roars sounded like if he wasn't supposed to be there to hear them. Plus, in the original, Simba started jumping around and practicing his roar because he got bored. So he thought what happened to Mufasa was his fault because Scar told him to sit still and wait and Simba disobeyed. In the 2019 version, Scar TOLD him to practice his roars. He was only obeying Scar in this new scenario. While it might not seem like much, it makes a huge difference in the level of guilt Simba would have felt. Also... why would Scar need to make Simba feel like his roars were what caused the stampede if he was planning to "get rid of him" anyway? The new movie makes it seem almost like Scar's plan was just to make Simba feel guilty and run away. These little changes really make a big difference in the scope of the storytelling ability and character development of this new movie.

Hi, I just recently subscribed to your channel and I was hoping that you would make a video that covers the Looney Tunes films, like Space Jam and Looney Tunes: Back in Action. Whenever you have the time, of course. You don’t have to, though.
Maybe it was due to not wanting to pay royalties to the Broadway musical (or more likely just so they could try to replicate the '94's 'Best Song' Oscar win) but it is odd the 2019 version didn't use some of the music the Broadway musical added considering it's the highest grossing Broadway production ever. The 2019 version was definitely banking on nostalgia of the '94 version and would likely not have done anywhere near as well in theaters if the '94 version didn't exist.
@@jcohasset23I guess but you got to understand like this would’ve been the perfect opportunity for millions of people that haven’t seen the broadway musical and maybe they could’ve made a movie version of that and put it in there because ever since I found out in 2019 that this movie was in the works I thought they were going to take some elements from the broadway musical but no and the worst thing about it is that they didn’t even bother putting in not one single element or even a song from the broadway musical and another thing out of all the Disney remakes that came out and all of them turned out be nothing but a big ass table of bullshit I was hoping that somehow this one would be okay and that there was no way in hell that they could fuck this up because it’s the goddamn Lion King for fuck’s sake like seriously but apart of me know that they were gonna fuck this up somehow and no surprise they fucked it but jesus christ I didn’t think they would actually fuck this movie up this poorly & badly at the same time.

The one thing I have to give the remake is that female hyenas **do** dominate their social structure. The lowest-ranking female outranks the highest-ranking male. It's just how hyenas do, it's not Americans making woke hyenas.
As much I hate lion king 2019 and with the exception of a couple of jokes yeah I agree with you the comedy is horrible one thing I’m going have to disagreed on timon and pumbaa They best thing in this movie
Pete's Dragon live-action was worse because they took out all the music lion king is better because it got to keep all the great. Music and had Childish Gambeno who is a great actor Beyonce is a good singer but not actress
As someone who generally enjoyed the 2019 movie, I can’t say I disagree with any of your points. For me Chiwetel Ejiofor was the weakest part of the movie. He’s an otherwise great actor but he just lacked the sinister quality the Scar should have.
If I never saw the original movie, the remake would be good. Unfortunately we all have seen the original so this one is just meh. All the characters feel dead inside , no emotions. Beyoncé is so ehhhhh. Like why?!!!

I Saw your vids and it seems you would do a tv series review like squid game. So i want to recommend you to review a Disney tv series the Villains of valleY view. I would like to know your thoughts... 😊👍
The background visuals are beautiful
The one thing I have to give the remake is that female hyenas **do** dominate their social structure. The lowest-ranking female outranks the highest-ranking male. It's just how hyenas do, it's not Americans making woke hyenas.
Welp, now they’re doubling down with Mufasa.
Way to get a clue, Disney. 👍🏼🙄
15:07 Okay, I have to give some thanks for the laughs. Nice one.
As much I hate lion king 2019 and with the exception of a couple of jokes yeah I agree with you the comedy is horrible one thing I’m going have to disagreed on timon and pumbaa They best thing in this movie
Hey, no worries! Like I said, this kind of stuff is always relative.
This movie was disappointing
Pete's Dragon live-action was worse because they took out all the music lion king is better because it got to keep all the great. Music and had Childish Gambeno who is a great actor Beyonce is a good singer but not actress
Lion King 2019
Hamlet
As someone who generally enjoyed the 2019 movie, I can’t say I disagree with any of your points. For me Chiwetel Ejiofor was the weakest part of the movie. He’s an otherwise great actor but he just lacked the sinister quality the Scar should have.
That moment when the remake kept the phobic “gay hyena” joke and *added* a phobic “trans bird” joke
If I never saw the original movie, the remake would be good. Unfortunately we all have seen the original so this one is just meh. All the characters feel dead inside , no emotions. Beyoncé is so ehhhhh. Like why?!!!
I have no idea why Beyonce is in this movie
Great analysis AND callmekevin mentioned? *subscribe*
Hi 😄
Hello! :D
I like The Lion King
NO male & female Lions I like😠The Colors, The Joking ten sucked.
1:27 - "It keeps all the songs" technically speaking, but "Be Prepared" is done *so* dirty that I'm not sure that counts.
