At 53:25 you notice in the movie listing that Raiders of the Lost Ark was still in theaters in 1983. It was released 2 full years earlier. Back then these blockbuster movies lingered in theaters for a long time, often playingover and over in the .99 cent theaters. It was a magical time.
Scott, I noticed that too, and remember popular films would be rereleased in theaters. I saw a couple Benji and Herbie the Love Bug movies on years-later rereleases as a kid. Cable and home video killed that market. I saw a ton of 99-cent movies at the Lindenhurst theater on Montauk Hwy back in the '80s. Yes, it was a magical time!
I like it too. You’re not alone. A couple of the performances I enjoy and the whole idea of a giant terrifying shark terrorising a sea world centre was genius.
I actually enjoyed Jaws the Revenge a lot. It’s the one movie that I can turn on and not have high expectations. I actually like it a lot more than Jaws 2. Judith Barsi was a little sweetheart. It’s not a good movie but it’s a fun little adventure you can turn on around Christmas and pour a glass of whiskey and enjoy.
I've seen The Revenge more times than any of the other three. The premise of the shark wanting revenge is hokey as hell but I always thought it was a decent enough movie, especially for an 80s sequel. And any movie that has Michael Caine AND Mario Van Peebles can't be that bad. 😂
I remember seeing this blurry mess a lot on TV when I was a younger, even as a kid I knew it was trash. Thank you for reminding me of the weird dancing dolphins at the end.
This played constantly on HBO when I was a kid. Being about 8, I probably watched it every time it was on. At that age you don’t know it’s bad, you just love sharks. I also had that pleather e.t. stuffed animal, lol.
My friend, you are the MASTER in making documentaries that are great companion pieces to classic films! Personally, if JAWS 2 and JAWS 3 get another blu ray release, your documentaries on both films would be outstanding additions. Especially for JAWS 3, which is always bare bones. I think JAWS 2 has a featurette about the making of, but I found your documentary more informative if I am comparing to two. Another spectacular job on the JAWS franchise! Cheers!
I really enjoy this movie. Especially since it's Jaws at Sea World, a really awesome concept. It has its problems, but now it's like its predecessor films. It's a full on B movie now, and that's not a bad thing.
Bryce McKenzie Yeah, but anyone with ANY knowledge of central Florida would know that there IS JUST NO DIRECT CONNECTION FROM THE OCEAN THAT GOES THAT FAR INLAND! There was just NO way for the shark to actually GET into Sea World, and the film just kinda glosses over that....It’s central conceit is just too dopey!
Nowhere in the film does it state “we are in Orlando”. So, instead of nitpicking, you just go with the story of “aquatic theme park by the sea” as intended.
Jaws 3 is not the worst film in the franchise, that distinction belongs to Jaws the Revenge (part 4). Where they messed up was the whole 3-D aspect, which was big at the time. I believe there were several more movies that came out the same year that used the 3-D gimmick. Also, the studio insisted having one of the Brodys in the film. I actually kinda like the idea of the movie taking place inside a theme park. I would have liked for the body count be higher but I believe Sea World was against the idea. Additionally, part 3 has the best orchestral soundtrack. All in all this is still one of my favorite shark movies. It was the first Jaws movie that I saw in theaters and I've been fascinated and terrified of sharks since then.
Alan Parker's score is definitely one of the few highlights of this movie. It captures the SeaWorld atmosphere in such a brilliant way. It is very unique but still holds onto enough of John Williams's original work on the first two films. The music, for me, is so memorable that it actually makes a few scenes in the film enjoyable. It has become one of my favorite underappreciated scores. Bravo to Parker!
The mother shark in Jaws 3-D is the one that visits me in my nightmares. Bruce from the original film is by far the most effective model, but for some reason the over exaggerated size of the shark in 3 is the one that I fear is lurking in the waters of my dreams.
Though wildly ridiculous, the scene where FitzRoyce gets swallowed whole and chomped is legitimately terrifying to me. I agree with you, the shark from the third film is actually pretty frightening.
I love Jaws 3D. It's a fun movie! I got to see it in 3D at a local theater a few years ago, and it was great! Besides... Lea Thompson is a bikini? Yes, please.
The actor he's talking about at 5:12, Rodger Bumpass, is the voice of Squidward. That's right, we could've gotten a spoof Jaws movie starring the voice of Squidward.
I viewed this in the theater as a very young child when released. The nostalgia is there. I had a blast. Summer. Cold theater. Junk food. 3D Bruce eating people. I will say its my 3rd fav with Revenge taking the top spot as the pure bomb stinker. For the record.. i would go and see 100 Jaws movies using practical effects/mechanical sharks. You build it, i will come.
Me too! But my theater removed the seats, covered the floor and walls in plastic, and flooded it in about 3 feet of water. You had to come in swimming trunks and floaties! Even though the special effects sucked, it scared the crap out me as a kid!!
@@americandespot6520 Somewhere in southern Georgia. I was living in Tallahassee, FL at the time. And the nearest in-door movie theater was in Georgia. There was a promotional thing with Jaws3. I barely remember it, but I remember my parents telling me to wear my swimming trunks and bring my raft and floaties. We drove like an hour to the theater, waited in line in the heat. Then entered the theater with water. The bottom of the theater nearest to the screen was submerged. It wasn't deep. On an adult it was waste high. But for me it was deep enough! Others sat at the top outside of the water. I watched it with my 3D paper glasses, and I remember being freaked out.. Some people left, either they thought the movie sucked. Or weren't comfortable being in water while watching Jaws3. I wish more theaters did this kind of stuff nowadays!! I also remember E.T. having an alien theme for a drive-in movie theater nearby in Florida! You had to come dressed as an alien (to get your kids in free), and they did a light show and fireworks before the movie started. Good times, good times..
@@graphicsgod that's cool! I always wanted to see this in 3D having been like 4 years old and not understanding what 3D was I chickened out after the grouper's head came off! :( I did have the opportunity to visit SeaWorld in 1983 when they were heavily promoting it. They had a theater I believe in the shark encounter exhibit which showed clips from the film to which upon ending the screen lifted up revealing the exit which was not the way the audience entered and the exit was a glass tunnel with a moving sidewalk/conveyor belt type thing quickly ushered us out. The iconic Jaws theme could be heard throughout but it was all a bit underwhelming as the tunnel was short. & clearly was not the same design as the one's seen in the film. (Obviously cause the whole Undersea Kingdom didn't exist and was shot all in miniature). & mostly the sharks themselves were all noticeably small. I have been back to Sea World & have seen the sharks in the encounter 21 years later & they were much larger. I'm not 100℅ but I Believe you can still see the short tunnel from their Shark Restaurant from the large tanks that are throughout the restaurant. I have rarely been able to find anything relating to the Jaws 3D Sea World exhibit online I think because shortly after its release they were embarrassed to have ever been associated with the film. But I do still have some pics of the Shark Models they had on display @ the time!
I was five years old when this movie was released. My older cousins Davey and Candy took me with them to see it in the theater. I didn’t make it past the opening before I was crying my eyes out; the 3-D terrified me. It’s weird how well I can remember this event, but man I really can. Candy stayed and watched it while Davey took me outside and the kid working the theater allowed us to go into a different movie. I can’t remember what the other movie was; part of me thinks that it was Krull (a massively under-appreciated movie) and part of me thinks that it was Mr. Mom; either one was a way better movie that Jaws 3, so I think that I actually did Davey a solid. I do remember that Candy loved Jaws 3 even though she said it was pretty stupid. I first watched Jaws 3 in full when I was eight or so; by then Jaws was my favorite movie (seriously, I loved Jaws more than I loved Star Wars, and I was a huge Star Wars nerd at eight) and I hate to admit this…but I didn’t think it was all *that* bad. Even now, a few months from 2022, I think that it’s enjoyable to put on when you are bored or want some background noise while cleaning or something and it’s a lot of fun to laugh at. No matter what you think of Jaws 3, there’s virtually no way on God’s green and blue earth that you would rather watch Jaws: The Revenge than 3 if you were forced to chose between the two.
Saw this in the theater at age 9. The Fish Head was the best 3D image that I still remember....it actually appeared to float over the Audience coming straight towards us. It was a great movie experience i still remember 38 years later...😎
I watched this with my parents in the cinema when it was first released! We were in a queue....then realised everyone else was watching a re-release of Disney's 'The Jungle Book'. The three of us sat alone at the back of the theatre. My Dad had to bend the arms of the cardboard glasses so they would fit on my head (I still have them) and my Mum kept sticking her hand over my face at the scary moments (I was only 8). Still can't believe the Jaws films only got a PG rating! I really enjoyed it and when we finally invested in a VHS recorder it was one of several films we recorded off the TV which I watched as a kid. However, for years I had no idea it was cut on TV and only saw the uncut version (minus my Mum's hands in my face) years later. Despite all it's flaws I still find this a fun watch. Totally agree that a remake would be great fun!
Jaws is my favorite movie of all time. Jaws 2 was a fun movie and I have great memories of watching with my mom. Jaws 3 and jaws the revenge didn’t ruin it for me and actually introduced me to appreciate the so bad is good cinema like plan 9 and such. About 3 years ago I finally saw it in 3-d with my friend. And while this was the only movie in the jaws franchise not to see it in the movie theater at least I saw it in it’s intended form.
Very good retrospective, Layton! I interviewed Jaws III producer Rupert Hitzig and actor Jon Putch for a Jaws 3-D story. Hitzig was primarily behind building the tank, and it was capable of 1.6 million gallons of water. There are a lot of other facts about the film and the actors that I have not seen told yet. Here is one tidbit: Louis Gossett Jr. had a bad knee and was going through some personal problems during filming.
MMA Since this movie was filmed March - August 1982, I'm guessing Lou Gossett went directly from this set to the Powers of Matthew Star? He was excellent in that short-lived series. Sorry to read he was suffering with a bad knee and personal problems. He turned in a fine performance despite it all.
Regardless of how bad these Jaws sequels were, they were still a huge part of my childhood and I have a lot of fond memories watching them on TV or on VHS after taping them from TV broadcasts. Jaws 3 may have actually been my second favorite, although even at the time I knew that there was something weird about those low-res opticals. I guess I just assumed that's what 3D effects looked like at the time, lol.
I've been binging through your vids since I saw one in my recommended just yesterday. Love the amount of effort and research behind them! Awesome editing too. Definitely deserve more views. Looking forward to if you do the next Jaws :-)
Good call on Bess Armstrong's Kathryn needing to be more front and center...her character is the only one with any agency and the conflict of research vs. commerce the only story element that has any resonance. One wishes that PSE's original shots could be found and recomped...part of the rejection of the video-comped effects was lobbying from a traditional optical printing house, Praxis Films, who apparently felt the advent of electronic compositing endangered their business. Praxis ultimately did the traditional optical compositing of effects for Jaws 3-D. Having seen this in 3-D back in '83, a lot of the b-roll shots of the park's attractions are some of the most beautiful and effective in the film.
There's a couple electronic composited shots online, on an old French fan site. The effects are night and day in comparison to what we got. The movie could have been so much more with better effects.
I've often considered this film an unintentional feminist piece because it's all about a female scientist who happens to be the only one who knows what she's talking about only to contend with a whole bunch of men who don't want to listen to her. As where Mike is almost useless and behaves more like a male heroine except in the final ten minutes. Armstrong wins all the good scenes here. She's fantastic alone just for jumping into the water to save the baby with no one but Dan helping her. It really should've been her movie, not Mike's, and in a lot of ways I think it is. They just hadn't meant it to be.
@@Tarotlynx I've always wanted to read Richard Matheson's original story outline, which didn't feature Mike and Sean and was mostly unrelated to the first two. How much you want to bet that Kathryn was much more front and center in the original outline? I love the scene as well where she tries to save the baby, and her weary resignation after it dies. At least she had some supportive staff working with her...possily more supportive than ol' Mikey! Yeah, I think I tend to watch it more for her than anything else...
@@justinplayfair4638 I often thought she should've dumped Mike. Dan and Liz make much better company for her, and unlike Mike, they respect and listen to her. I know she's their boss and all that, but still. The three of them seemed to work well together.
Hey Layton, I'm here following the first 2 Jaws retrospectives, Rocky Balboa and Childs Play. This was another great retrospective, I love your voice, the detail you've put into these and your editing. Better than the actual film in truth. The cut to George Mcfly laughing at the closing shot had me in hysterics. Keep up the great work!
The Problem with Jaws 3 it needed a director that can experience special effects. The 3d was a bad call. The cast wasn't a problem but to put the Brody brothers in the film was a bad idea. This could of been a good film. A shame.
...and with actors... The performances are so intense, so over the top. Its embarrassing. The only one who seems comfortable with his character was Simon McCorkindale
I remember watching the HBO premier with my family huddled in the living room. Eating burger King and wearing those funky 3d glasses...it was truly a good time to be a kid 😊
I thought this movie would kill for a remake I always thought its strange that studios want to remake great movies when there goal should be remake bad movies that had potential first re do the script keep the characters but give them more story second get a first rate Director who understands this kind of movie third get a top rated special effects guy and for love of God dont shoot in 3D forth find some way to expand it to 120 minutes 99 minutes is just to short and finally do whatever it takes to keep Alan Parker Score if you have to bring another composer to fill up the extra 21 minutes that's fine as long as the composer can make his sound like Parker wrote it so the movie wouldn't feel completely different if they did that we could finally have that Jaws Trilogy that we deserve
I have to admit that Jaws 3 is a guilty pleasure of mine. I realize it is limited in many ways but it is such a nostalgic time capsule of my early 80s childhood that it remains a classic in my book. Consequently, I have yet to view it in its intended 3-D version.
It always seems so odd to me that studios continue to interfere when it almost always backfires. At what point does someone with more authority say "stop."
I've seen this movie dozens of times, having been a child in the early 80's when it was played on repeat on HBO nonstop. The problem isn't the script.. it's the effects. If it had been done with today's tech (Deep Blue Sea actually repeated the glass smashing scene with success), or they had stepped back and rethought their storyboards realizing they simply couldn't pull off what they wanted to do... it would have been a perfectly fine movie. Also I don't think current audiences can grasp what a shock it was to have SeaWorld be the setting.. at the time SeaWorld was right up there with Disney as a class A attraction.
Jaws 3D is my favourite sequel as well, although technically speaking Jaws 2 is *miles* better than it. There is some nostalgia of sorts attached to it, because as a kid I believed there were only two Jaws films, so to find that this and The Revenge existed was exciting and surprising, obviously the actual films were disappointing, but over time I have come to love this film. It’s terrible and that’s why I love it. The premise is genuinely great though, so it’s a shame it didn’t turn out the way Matheson wrote it.
Very much so. It would have been better if there was no tie to the Brodys as this 'family curse' theme was ridiculous. The idea of Jaws in a Seaworld-like setting with tourists trapped underwater is what keeps me checking out the movie every ten years, but only after watching Jaws The Revenge first to make #3 seem a little better. But that 3D was horrible. I saw it in the theaters and I think it was released in anaglyph 3D instead of the better polarized 3D (but this I can't be certain after all these years). Not surprising that the studio heads were the ones who gummed up the original screenplay.
@@bighuge1060 To me, Deep Blue Sea is in many ways what Jaws 3 should have been (albeit, with an advantage of late 90's technology & effects). While the premise + research facility have much more in common with Jurassic Park, I did get a SeaWorld vibe from it at points with how the sets were constructed and Aquatica's undersea areas were so well laid out. It definitely has an amusement park tone in some aspects, at least in the 1st act before the storm hits. To this day, it remains my favorite shark flick behind the original Jaws. Even if they're not in the same league in terms of quality, I still enjoy it.
@@DrQuagmire1 Agreed, I'll never forget how uplifting the music was in the finale as the dolphins are revealed to have survived. For me, that's the best ending of the Jaws movies after the original's finale (not that Jaws 2's was bad, just not quite as memorable in my opinion).
@@bighuge1060 Wow, you saw it in theaters when it first came out? Do you remember audiences' reactions at any specific scenes or 3D effects? Did it really scare anybody in your theater room? What was everyone's reaction to the ending?

“Overman was killed inside the park, it’s Mother is inside the park”!!!!! 😱 This film terrified me as a kid and will always be my favourite Jaws movie!! Still watch it a few times a year….and make sure all my little nieces and nephews watch it to so they become fans of this classic!!! The original movie is my second favourite’. Love the second one as well but always struggled with revenge!!!
I would love someone with good special effects background, redo all the underwater shots to at least look decent. Love to see what people could come up with!
I still find Jaws 3 entertaining. Yes, the control room attack looks fake as hell, but the munching of Fitzroyce after that terrifying slow, unrelenting advance of the shark up the water filter makes up for it. One of the best death scenes in the franchise.
Great documentary. I quite enjoyed it and you earned a sub. ------ I unironically love Jaws 3. It's a great gateway horror movie for younger audiences and it's a fine B-Movie in its own right. I find the Sea World setting and the made up Undersea Kingdom to be creative and memorable. The score is beautiful and severely underrated. I like that unlike the other 3 Jaws movies this shark is exclusively seen underwater save a few second when it attacks Lea Thompson. Louise Gosset Jr is not a villain in this piece, and actually survives. It would have been quite easy to turn him into a mustache twirling villain. The bad opticals don't bother me. The scenes of the shark violence are actually quite horrifying in my opinion. When Fitz Royce gets inhaled whole by the shark and it begins to try and position him so that it can crunch him up is claustrophobic and the things nightmares are made of. ------------ Jaws 3 is a lot of fun and I love it.
Another fantastic video, your becoming one of my favourite movie reviewers.Well done u should be proud with all the hard work you can clearly see you’ve put in.👏👏👏👌
I love these reviews and retrospectives! I added more of them to watch because they are really informative and awesome to learn stuff I never knew about this franchise I really enjoy! Thanks and keep ‘em coming!!!!
I really like your work. Jaws 3 is a very silly movie, but I somehow have a soft spot for it and have been trying to figure out why ever since I saw it in the theater [the derisive laughter when the shark blasted through the control room is something I'll never forget]. It comes down to two things: the music in that film is very, very good, which is still surprising to me to this day, and even though the scene where FitzRoyce is chomped is completely ridiculous, it's actually really well done . . . the stuff of nightmares. I wish they'd had the shark do more chomping and wreaking havoc once it was unleashed inside the park with the public there. But Jaws 3 is still to this day, strangely, one of my guilty pleasures.
@SECRETARIAT Guy - They were unable to have a higher kill count because Sea World had their name attached. I read somewhere that Kelly was actually supposed to get eaten and the scene with the water skiers had a couple of deaths as well.
@@gabrieltrejo2533 You know, that's very interesting. So it was because of the politics of SeaWorld . . . I always thought that sequence was toothless and rather odd . . . Kelly not getting chomped was a bit strange.
@@gabrieltrejo2533You are correct about Kelly’s demise. In one of the early versions of the script, Sean & Kelly were riding in a gondola that would occasionally dip into the water. The shark breaches & grabs their gondola car. Kelly would be killed, with Sean left in intensive care.
Can I just saw that this was the most in depth review of this movie I’ve seen and it’s legit documentary quality. Amazing video I enjoyed every bit of it!
This movie is such a guilty pleasure for my sister and I ("80s kids). I think we knew every line at one point. "You tell Shelby Overman for me he can take a flyin' leap in a rollin' doughnut on a gravel driveway, you hear? " lololol. great content as always!!
My Ma took me to see this is a kid and I was so excited..after we grabbing our tickets and candy we started to make our way to the theatre room...I got so scared because there was this massive prop at the entrance making it look like you were stepping into a huge shark's JAWS as you passed through the doorway. Ah, the memories!
I adore this move and have since I saw it upon release. Bess Armstrong is fantastic, and the chemistry between Quaid, Armstrong, Putch, and Thompson makes for an enjoyable romp. And so much smoking!
I love this! Please don’t take too long to do Jaws the Revenge! Also, this is superbly done. Really well edited, and really informative. I would love to see you do Deep Blue Sea at some point! And Jaws 3 is a guilty pleasure of mine. It’s crap, but it’s harmless crap.
My favorite thing, other than when the shark is "swimming" toward the underwater control room and is literally 100% still...is when they show Jaws 3 on TV and the special effects of the undersea kingdom don't translate, so people are litterally running and screaming about a giant green screen.
Killer creature loose in theme park. I like to think that Jurassic Park was Speilberg's interpretation of Jaws 3. I saw this movie in the theater, with my family, glasses an all. As such I have some affection for the film.
Loved Jaws 3D. Saw it as a kid in the theater when it was first released. The Sea World aspect was great. Even the soundtrack is awesome. Lea Thompson in a bikini is the icing on the cake !!!
17:13 is a picture of Jaws the Revenge Joe Alves wanted to Direct Jaws 3. It was he who suggested the 3-D concept. He was a contracted Studio player for years before Sugarland! That wasn't his 'big break'. He had no interest in another Jaws film however when they offered him to work on Jaws 3 he said he'd rather direct it. Joe had a lot to do with Jaws and Jaws 2. He is without doubt one of the unsung hero's of them first two films. According to Alves, Landsburg was stingy and wanted everything done on a shoe string budget being mainly a TV producer. Alves says the 3-D cameras hadn't been updated since the 50s, and coupled with filming underwater the 3-d didn't work as well as they had hoped. Landsburg then went on to butcher Alves 'original version from 120mins to 90min so to get more showings in the cinema per day. FitzRoyce wasn't a hunter, he was a photographer. It was Joe Alves that designed the shark in Jaws. Bob Mattey constructed it and made it workable. Roy Arboghast created the skin of the original Shark. He was an expert in plastics and rubber. He also went on to work on Jaws 2 and build the shark for Jaws 3, which I believe the full size shark was actually only 25 feet like the first two movies, however they built a head that was in ratio to a 35 foot shark so that it could swallow FitzRoyce whole. That was the whole reasoning behind a 35foot version. I'm a fan of all the Jaws movies. I can see all the flaws of Jaws 3-D however I don't think it's that bad. Yes it's cheesy, the characters are fairly bland, the special effects are terrible, and the 3-D...well I haven't seen it in 3-d lol. I do think it's the worst of the franchise and find I enjoy Jaws the revenge a lot more (I'm looking forward to that one when you do it!) but this is definitely a guilty pleasure of mine. I'd take it over any shark movie of the last 30 years besides possibly The Reef. Also as you pointed out the score by Alan Parker is one of the highlights. Despite all the negative aspects, I'm glad they didn't make Jaws 3 People 0!
Another great video! Always liked the concept of a super great white in an aquatic theme park so Jaws 3 always kind of entertained me despite its overall lack of quality. I love the movie poster with the megalodon-sized fin behind the water skiers and the teaser trailer with the shark fin scared the crap out of seven year old me in the theater. Also long before seeing the movie I remember digging through a friends box of the Topps trading cards, but there were hardly any with a good shot of the shark itself.
Hey Layton, great vid. Joe Dante supposedly started pre-production in 79 after he completed Piranha in 78 (a Jaws spoof), He did not do The Howling until 81.
The idea of Jaws in Seaworld just sounds so crazy and cool! It’s a great idea that was poorly executed. I mean who the hell approved of that effect of jaws going into the control room. Anyway, I’m glad you pointed out the score, it really is unique and perfect for the type of film they were going for. This is definitely miles better than jaws the revenge, which might be the worst film in cinema history.
I actually love it. It's a complete guilty pleasure for me and I used to rent it on VHS all the time as a kid. I'd love to see it on the big screen in 3D.
I love your professionally made documentaries. I also remember the great soundtrack of part 3, the problem I had with the movie was that the whole thing was so dark. You could not see a thing of the killings.
Great video! Favorited! Really enjoyed Jaws 2. It was nice having it set in Amity. Love the opening scene with the Orca, the soundtrack was brilliant and Roy Scheider was fun as always.
I have a nostalgic connection to this film, as I was 12, loved sharks, wanted to grow up to be a marine biologist and Kay Morgan was my "hero." I am overjoyed they finally released the score--you are dead-on about how awesome it is. Thank you for this wonderful, no-holds-barred honest documentary about this terrible movie that, even though I know better, I love to death. You rock!!! Keep up the good work!!!
Fun fact: As of 2019, the dolphin who played Sandy, actually a male named Capricorn, is still alive and resides at Sea World in Orlando.
That’s lovely ☺︎ ♥
This same dolphin was used in the filming of “Mary-Kate and Ashley Mysteries: Sea World”.
All those years in captivity, nice to know he’s still alive but wow.
In all these jaws films does all these people really get eaten ?
Can you ask me this ? In all the jaws films does all the people really get eaten and their body parts get chewed up

I too saw it in the cinema, a dark dark day
Lol. How did the audience respond to it?
I've seen The Revenge more times than any of the other three. The premise of the shark wanting revenge is hokey as hell but I always thought it was a decent enough movie, especially for an 80s sequel. And any movie that has Michael Caine AND Mario Van Peebles can't be that bad. 😂
I remember seeing this blurry mess a lot on TV when I was a younger, even as a kid I knew it was trash. Thank you for reminding me of the weird dancing dolphins at the end.
Nothing screams "deadly shark movie" like smooth jazz.
Right!😜
No one would expect that
I love this movie, I see it just as a camp classic, it’s a guilty pleasure and I’ve watched it far more times than I can remember 😂
This played constantly on HBO when I was a kid. Being about 8, I probably watched it every time it was on. At that age you don’t know it’s bad, you just love sharks. I also had that pleather e.t. stuffed animal, lol.
This film is my childhood. I have seen it more times than I can count! I LOVE it!
It's crap! and nowhere near as good as the first Jaws & Jaws 2.
@@imogenimeson664 she said it was her childhood, she didn’t say it was good.I love loads of films that are shit so pipe down.
Me too, it should've been shot in 2D instead
I love it too Janet. I love it for all the reasons so many hate it. It's so much fun!
I love this film too. Got to see it on the big screen in 3D.
Cheers!
Thanks for watching!
Agreed. His videos are great. I have no idea how he doesn’t have more subs.
Agreed! This is the best review of the film I have ever seen!
Travis Owens They’re definitely in the cards.
Travis Owens Oh yes
They should replace the crappy 3d shark scenes and you have a decent movie!
@@edvaira6891 it's a film it's not meant to be taken seriously.
It must be watched in 3D to be truly appreciated. I saw it when it came out and it was an amazing movie experience.
I also love the J3 score
I LOVED Jaws 3-D. Have seen it more times than I can count. Totally agree with your view of the soundtrack too.
I disagree but that’s just your opinion
I get that the fourth instalment is awful. But Jaws 3 is brilliant!!
😂😂😂😂😂😂absolutely not
Alan Parker's score is definitely one of the few highlights of this movie.
Always thought the music in this film was amazing. Same with the karate kid pt 3 x
he wrote a completely original score unlike Williams Just ripping of Dvorjak for the original
I completely agree with you 👍
Great soundtrack
@@svpmusic8140clown! 🤡🤡🤡
The scene where Overman gets eaten kills me.
It’s Mother is in the park!!!!
The John Hughes script for Jaws 3, People 0 has been floating around for a while. Worth the read.
Great video as always.
I love Jaws 3D. It's a fun movie! I got to see it in 3D at a local theater a few years ago, and it was great! Besides... Lea Thompson is a bikini? Yes, please.
She was one heckuva looker, that’s for sure.
3D Bruce?
@@graphicsgodThis happened in 1983? Where was this?
No matter what you think of Jaws 3, there’s virtually no way on God’s green and blue earth that you would rather watch Jaws: The Revenge than 3 if you were forced to chose between the two.
cool story and Krull rules!
Lol so funny!
And I agree w/ you wholeheartedly.
I will say, what made them take you to an M- MA15 rated movie at such a young age?
Amazing story though 😅
Damning with faint praise..
Really 😂I can’t stand either one but I’m with you on that choice jaws revenge should’ve never been made
Saw this in the theater at age 9. The Fish Head was the best 3D image that I still remember....it actually appeared to float over the Audience coming straight towards us. It was a great movie experience i still remember 38 years later...😎
Personally, I'll watch this movie once and a while. I did catch this movie on Blu-Ray and the 3-D photography looked much better than before.
As a kid actually liked watching the movie in 3D always remember the arm floating out and loving it
I really like Bess Armstrong, as she is talented and gave a good performance in this movie. She made it more watchable.
She and Dennis Quaid were good in the movie. But Philip Fitz -Royce and his sidekick were unbearably annoying idiots.
This was my favorite Jaws movie growing up and I still enjoy it lol. The spoof movie sounded like a good time!
Speaking as a 7 year old in the summer of 83, I loved it! (But not as much as I loved Return of the Jedi!)
I've been binging through your vids since I saw one in my recommended just yesterday. Love the amount of effort and research behind them! Awesome editing too. Definitely deserve more views. Looking forward to if you do the next Jaws :-)
Chelsea M Thank you very much!
Lea Thompson was fine as hell. And JAWS 3D is my second favorite JAWS movie behind the original. It's awesome.
Thank you! And thanks for watching!
Just when you thought it was safe...to bring back 3D.
Saw it with my old man back in 83. I was 7 and mortified because I had never seen a 3D movie before.
If I want to see a killer pop out on 3-D, I'll take Jason over the shark.
The Problem with Jaws 3 it needed a director that can experience special effects. The 3d was a bad call. The cast wasn't a problem but to put the Brody brothers in the film was a bad idea. This could of been a good film. A shame.
Yeah. Joe Alves was better as an art director\production designer
...and with actors... The performances are so intense, so over the top. Its embarrassing. The only one who seems comfortable with his character was Simon McCorkindale

Photo at 17:18 was a production behind the scenes shot of “The Revenge” in ‘87. Not 3D in 82.
I have to admit that Jaws 3 is a guilty pleasure of mine. I realize it is limited in many ways but it is such a nostalgic time capsule of my early 80s childhood that it remains a classic in my book. Consequently, I have yet to view it in its intended 3-D version.
It looks good in 3d on playstation vr
Some people think this used the red blue glasses in 1983 when in theaters. No it used the polarized 3d glasses that looked like sun glasses.
I am loving your videos, they are so interesting and well researched.
Keep it up!
Thank you very much!
JAWS 3D is my favorite JAWS sequel. It's easily the most enjoyable of the three sequels.

Dreaklock you’re dumb this movie suck
Wow....i think it's the worst one. It's laughable with the cheesy 3D ....And the actors they chose? 👎🏼 Yuk
@@chachopichardo1879 ikr! That 3D was gay
It was a great premise, poorly executed.
Even if they're not in the same league in terms of quality, I still enjoy it.
as bad as the movie was, I have to admit, the music that was composed was pretty good (though nowhere near as good as John Williams' iconic theme)

I would love someone with good special effects background, redo all the underwater shots to at least look decent. Love to see what people could come up with!
I still find Jaws 3 entertaining. Yes, the control room attack looks fake as hell, but the munching of Fitzroyce after that terrifying slow, unrelenting advance of the shark up the water filter makes up for it. One of the best death scenes in the franchise.
I saw this back in the 80s as a kid, scared the poop outta me, I loved it, still do like the previous two.
Brilliant retrospective, as ever. The ending had me in fits of giggles. Just when you thought...
Great documentary. I quite enjoyed it and you earned a sub.

I unironically love Jaws 3.

Jaws 3 is a lot of fun and I love it.

So well done Layton! Best review show I've come across in a while. 👏
@@gabrieltrejo2533 I know Jaws 3 is a very silly movie, but I actually love the front on view of the shark in this movie.

Layton it's a shame YOU didn't produce JAWS 3D. Your production ability is far greater.
My favorite thing, other than when the shark is "swimming" toward the underwater control room and is literally 100% still...is when they show Jaws 3 on TV and the special effects of the undersea kingdom don't translate, so people are litterally running and screaming about a giant green screen.
I'm not embarrassed to say I love Jaws 3-D. It's great. I enjoyed the characterizations. I enjoyed the visual effects. It's a great movie.
Killer creature loose in theme park. I like to think that Jurassic Park was Speilberg's interpretation of Jaws 3. I saw this movie in the theater, with my family, glasses an all. As such I have some affection for the film.
I love this movie. 80s baby here. Saw it in the theatiler. I was obsessed with sea world and sharks so it was perfect for me
Loved Jaws 3D. Saw it as a kid in the theater when it was first released. The Sea World aspect was great. Even the soundtrack is awesome. Lea Thompson in a bikini is the icing on the cake !!!
I saw this in the theaters at eight years old. It's a masterpiece as far as I'm concerned.
17:13 is a picture of Jaws the Revenge
Joe Alves wanted to Direct Jaws 3.
I personally like the film as I saw it at the cinema with the glasses on
"Mephistopheles is a demon featured in German folklore."
Schneider made me Google it.
It’s an old name for the devil/Satan.
TBH the Jaws 3 People 0 script sounds pretty great. I would have loved to see that movie.
Even though Jaws3D has a special little place in my heart, I wud of loved to see Jaws 3 People 0.

Thanks for watching!
Unbelievable video. So much information and production. Hard to believe not more views. Really appreciate all the hard work!!
I CAN NOT WAIT until you do Jaws 4. When can we expect that? :) I have subscribed just so I can see that, :)
The big "money shot" of the shark breaking the glass still terrifies audiences today.
Are we really getting a jaws the revenge retrospective soon?
This channel is criminally underrated. I can’t wait for the Jaws 4 video!
This is great. I'm fascinated by this movie, as bad as it is. There is some interesting new insight in this video that's new to me. Good job
This is a fun vid, but I'm willing to bet that the Giant Squid prop from 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea was bigger than the 35 foot shark with sled.
this movie is amazing in 3D actually
Great video! Favorited! Really enjoyed Jaws 2. It was nice having it set in Amity. Love the opening scene with the Orca, the soundtrack was brilliant and Roy Scheider was fun as always.
How do you identify a three-foot bite radius on something as small as a human body? Is that even possible?
I have a nostalgic connection to this film, as I was 12, loved sharks, wanted to grow up to be a marine biologist and Kay Morgan was my "hero." I am overjoyed they finally released the score--you are dead-on about how awesome it is. Thank you for this wonderful, no-holds-barred honest documentary about this terrible movie that, even though I know better, I love to death. You rock!!! Keep up the good work!!!
