My experience with the M3 is the polar opposite of yours. I have used the base headstrap, and the ALAFLY headstrap, and the M3 is the clear winner. It is the most comfortable by far. I do recognize comfort is subjective though. I often use mine without the battery attached as I use a larger battery back in my pocket, and don't notice the missing counterweight at all. I agree the front velcro strap is difficult to install, but certainly not 'impossible'. They could have designed it better and reversed the velcro like you said. I had no trouble installing it, and not sure how you managed to damage your arms, maybe you got unlucky and received a bad unit? Just wanted to put that out there for anyone considering buying the M3.

nah i agree with the video, the velcro, the shaking, going quest pro mode with no interface doesnt work that well and tough to get perfectly and stay there. the buzzing. i dont use the battery ever tho. strap is good and a very good option still, but it aint perfect. i wouldnt call it a waste of money like the title but yeah, its probably the best so far but still has some issues for some people

Agreed. I just got mine and love it. Install took less than 5 minutes with 0 issues. Velcro strap slid in easily and the side pieces that he tore up went on without a problem. Comfort is 10/10 as well. Everyone I know who has one had the same experience as me. Batteries are weak but otherwise it’s well worth the money

You know the Velcro is "Velcro'd" to the halo strap? You can remove the pad and it peels right off. You can then thread it through the headset first and then attach it to the halo strap.

  • @avif007

the hissing is whine coil. nothing bad really. as you said, you can "hear" it charging.
this issue happens in a lot of electronics.
happy to see the narrative on this strap changing because in the first couple of weeks most YT channels were pushing this strap as a "must buy" and calling the charging issues as "quest charging issues" instead of just calling it out as "useless batteries" which they really are. im getting 40-60 min from each battery depending on the usage and in extensive testing the most i got was 5h till the Q3 shut down and i depleted 3 bobo batteries during that time.
for the price it costs to get 3 bobo batteries + strap its better to get any other cheap strap + proper power bank 10-15KMah supporting QC2.0 or above. this will keep the Q3 charged at 100% till the powerbank depletes and then will start using the Q3 battery.

I suppose it depends on your starting point. I've gone from being quite thankful the battery dies before 2 hours on the quest 3 due to discomfort, to being able to play for 4 hours before realising how much time has passed. I did struggle with the velcro - they really need a tool to help fit that

  • @GOOSEYGOGGLESVR
    @GOOSEYGOGGLESVR 11 месяцев назад +58

Sorry to hear you had such a bad experience with it, I personally couldn't disagree more! My Quest 3 didn't get marked at all, my battery doesn't hiss and the little tab that you were struggling to get on is much easier to put on if you remove the velcro part that goes onto your forehead, you'd see you can take that little tab completely out. I used this same headset for the whole of the Quest 2 lifespan, must buy for me!

    • @hype88
      @hype88 11 месяцев назад +6

Same here, I tried a few other well reviewed headsets and kept the Bobo.. The extra battery life it gives me is plenty as I need a break well before 3+ hours anyways. That tab everyone complains about is also easily remedied by putting a piece of tape on the end of it which makes it a non issue and pretty much instant. Thankfully, there's plenty of options out there though at this point for most people's needs.

For me it’s about having something as close to the PSVR head strap I can get, but I agree with the fact that it never actually feels that stable on your head. Stops pressure on your face but adds a lot more weight to the top of your head. Still better than the stick strap though.

  • @SaccoBelmonte
    @SaccoBelmonte 11 месяцев назад +9

Long M2 user here. I ended buying another strap designed specifically for the Q3 because I have the same thoughts for the most part except my batteries didn't hiss (try cleaning the contacts, sounds like electricity arching due to poor connection and will probably make the battery even less efficient). The new strap, one of those with 8000mAh and useless LEDs on the back makes the total charge last for at least 4 hours. The Quest 3's battery indicator goes down very slowly.
I would try the M2 again if BoboVR releases a new battery, I don't see why they would make it incompatible with the M2, only if they wanna force us to get a new strap, in which case I will not and will sell my M2+batteries+charger+Q3retrofit kit online.

I wasn't into the aesthetic of halo straps, particularly as I think VR needs to de-bulk to gain traction. That said, when my Q2 'Elite battery ̶s̶t̶r̶a̶p̶ crap' failed in all the ways they're well documented to do, I bought the Bobo M2. For comfort and charge, it was great. Now a Quest 3 owner, now a M3 owner. I have no issues with comfort, accept that bulk will be a feature for another couple of generations. People seem upset by the Q3's battery life per session, but I'd challenge anyone complaining just to take a break and recharge the headset. I don't think it's good for eyes to have Vergence-Accommodation Conflict for hours at a time, so just take a break. It's a pity your point of view is what it is. I think the M3 is a decent build, comfortable and provides decent battery time for sensible VR session durations.

The hissing happens when you turn on the Bobo battery when the Quest battery is close to full. To avoid the hissing, turn the battery when the Quest has 40% or less.

For sideways stability, I recommend to take the two cushions from the top and tape them to the arms of the Q3 (double sided tape), so it presses against your temples.
You can then take one of the mesh or pu cushions from the back and put it on the top.

It's certainly better than the default strap (a LOT better). Since I only use the Quest 3 for PCVR wired, my only complaint is that the strap doesn't have an over the head portion which would allow me to velcro strap the wire to it. Sorry. Can't agree with you on this one. For me the MV3 is perfect. It worked well for the Q2 so its only natural for the M3 to be very similar. They are around the £50.00 mark here in the UK so with a £40.00 battery that comes with it, its a bargain. Fortunately I have 2 batteries from the M2 so its kind of endless gaming for me, albeit that I have to swap and charge periodically.
The trick is to start the headset on a full charge with a full charged baytery at the rea, lasts ages thereafter.

We all had fully charged Quest 3s, playing the same multiplayer game. When everyone else's headset died, I still had over 40% power left in mines. So for me, the headset works as advertised. I think the M3 Pro is very well built. I had no problem installing mine, didn't break anything and it really is the most comfortable headstrap because every other strap will hurt your face after a while.
The battery is fine, it gives quite a lot of extra play time while keeping the quest battery at 100% or close to it depending on the app or game being played. Mine doesn't make any noise either. I didn't have much issue with feeding the little velcro strap through and in fact I've since released it and let it hang over the top, (it's only about an inch long) because it's less restricting without it.
It's common knowledge that it's less suitable for action games because of the wobble and that's about the only negative worth considering.
In my opinion, for playing games like Red Matter, Moss, or any non action game, this is the best strap to use because it can be worn for hours and you don't really want to be wearing any other strap that squashes your face. There's a reason why the BoboVR is popular and hyped. It's not for everyone but it's a damn good headstrap.

  • @ProgrammistMusic

i got the Bobo M2 for Quest 2 and wasn't happy with it. I get headaches because of the halo design and the internal sound got worse, because of the angled arms directly behind the speakers. So i ended up with a lightweight headstrap without battery and added a 10000maH powerbank at the back. When i got my Quest 3 i bought the official elite strap but found it very uncomfortable. So i bought a ZYBER strap without battery and another noname strap and i chose the noname strap because it was in fact better than the ZYBER one because it has an embedded knob and extra pads at the back. In combination with a small PD 10000maH powerbank this works perfectly for my head.

So… I’ve had the BOBOVR for my Quest 2 for the past few years & it’s been great. So I thought that a new BOBOVR M3 would be perfect for my Quest 3. I’ve been using the standard strap with my Q3 since launch now & I have to say.. I’m ok with it, maybe I have Stockholm syndrome as it’s all I’ve had since launch. But now my BOBOVR M3 has arrived, I’m disappointed.. I’m disappointed for all the reasons he’s mentioned in this video plus.. it now no longer has the head strap that goes over the top of your head like the Quest 2 version had. It has the cutouts for it but now has that crappy Velcro part that’s causing people problems. It was also a great way to pick up the headset without putting unnecessary weight pressure on all the small plastic parts, when you hold it from the top head strap its balanced perfectly in the middle.

But found The front head pad is removable, and so is the velcro strap that helps support the headset. This halo strap is awesome imo, but it is hard to install it is very tight. i am sure many people have broken the quest trying to install it . I found if i hold the quest upside down in my had and work in one side a little at a time it will slide in better, its not easy either way you try it. This was a decent headstrap in terms of comfort, but while it was on my Quest, I ran into a lot of problems. The device would constantly go to sleep if I looked down, and in-game required constant recalibration of controls. I wouldn't have thought a headstrap would cause this, but as soon as I put on the old strap back on, everything worked fine.

I have been thinking about getting a bobovr since I got my Quest 3 because it was recommended as the most comfortable but I thought adding extra weight on my head wasn't a good idea for comfort and longer play sessions.
I decided to get a Zybervr with a couple 10000mAh battery banks instead and I feel this most comfortable for me. No wobble either when I turn my head fast.
I have been trying to watch movies lying down in bed but the wheel adjustment at the back sticks out too much and is uncomfortable so now I'm on the lookout for another head strap. I think I found one that's on sale right now so I'll see if that passes the pillow test.

It's the most comfortable strap I have ever used and is exceptionally stable no matter what I'm doing, and I use it most of the time without the rear battery connected and have never felt it felt front heavy for either the 2 or 3. Only point I agree with is the battery not really being up to the task, but then it wasn't massively great for the Quest 2 either so I'm kind of used to just popping one in there to slow the drain, haha.

OK, I forgot to mention, so listen up guys, i'll give you a little trick to easily get that strap end into the top part of the visor without having to take out the faceplate! 1. Take that very thin packaging that the battery was packaged with and fold it into a very narrow half to about the size of the strap width. 2. Push it in under/over half way into where you have to push in the strap end. 3. Then push the strap end over/under, not under/over til it actually velcrose's itself to the other end!! The first time I ever heard about this issue with the strap that people were whining about, I knew there'd be an easy way to do it. So when I got my Meta, i used saran wrap! You could use aluminum foil but you have to flatten it really well. You can also use 2 packing tape strips about the size of the width of the strap end and stick them together to make one you can stick in under/over. Funny thing, when I got the Bobo M3, there was already a thin film packaging with the battery. So I tried that, and Voila, it worked like a charm! I've just done it like 5 times easy peasy! LOL, I should contact Bobo and let them know! Maybe they can add it to their installation instructions! You guys try, and if anybody's having a hard time with it, shoot me a reply. Honestly, it's not all that hard, it's just that the Bobo's strap end is a little short to play around with. If anybody has trouble adjusting, use a needle nose plier. Makes adjusting it way easier! So remember, under/over in the loop with the thin film packaging half way only so the strap end has a slide to go over/under without snagging, got it! Luck!

I got the S3 Pro, which I think solves all your (and everybody else's) problems with the M3: it has a 10000 mAh battery and leaves the Quest3 battery at around 100%, until it is empty. I think it is also more comfortable, even though it is very heavy indeed.

Really not sure about your review. I’ve had my BoboVR M3 Pro for a little while now. It’s my first Halo strap. No problem fitting it, or its Velcro strap. Was quite easy. No damage to my plastic. You must have forced it on incorrectly to create that damage! Also, for sitting down MR use, the face gasket free option is awesome. For a virtual desktop or watching a video in MR mode, the freedom of not having a face gasket is a huge comfort step. So, no regrets on my M3 Pro purchase. Best VR accessory I’ve purchased so far! 🤓

Didn't have an issue installing mine, most of the time these issues are caused by user error, i.e. not following the instructions correctly. If your battery was hissing then you've unfortunately got an defective unit and should ask BoboVR for a replacement. My battery makes zero noise at any time -when in use or when charging it. I've also used Kiwi Design's headstrap on my (now retired) Quest 2 and that was good, but the BoboVR headstrap is a bit better in my opinion, due to it being easier to put on and take off, especially if you wear glasses.
The only real issue I have with the M3 Pro is the energy capacity of the battery, it's only 5200mAh which is tiny compared to most power banks (I had a 10,000mAh strapped to my Quest 2).
BoboVR need to release a much higher capacity battery for the Quest 3 as it uses more power than the Quest 2.

Bs yes it definitely does make the buzzing noise. I agree with your other points. It is comfortable and does give tons of extra juice but the buzzing definitely does occur when the meta quest 3 has 75% or more charge and the battery pack is on. To avoid the buzz you turn off the battery pack until the meta battery is drained below 75%. Blunty did a really good explanation why this happens.

I think BOBO's effort here is not about laziness, but instead about speed. They were really rushing to get it out so we would have something. They even put out conversion kits for Quest 2 version. So I agree with your review, but the ascribed motivation. They made a choice based customer feedback and gave us best they could as fast as they could rather than wait for perfection.
If Meta had been kind enough to work with accessory manufactures pre-launch like they apparently did with the Quest 2 but not, we wouldn't have this problem. There's still no facial interface from VRCover yet for Quest 3. For Quest 2 those were available on launch day. Meta dropped the ball and left everyone scurrying to find *any* solution to improve the comfort quickly.

I'm looking at them because of the detachable batteries but I don't like the halo style straps because they do wobble when moving about, but I saw that they also have an elite style strap (M3 Mini - bonus it snaps on as opposed to attaching through friction - edit: I stand corrected, it's still friction fit...) and I also saw that they have a battery upgrade kit for their straps and asked them via email if the M3 Mini can also accept that battery upgrade kit, they confirmed that it can, though they did say the battery kit will come back in stock in 3-6 weeks, maybe when it'll come back it'll be without the buzzing.

It’s better than all the ones that I saw or looked up.
That doesn’t look like it did damage, that looks like you damaged it.
However this is your opinion so I respect your opinion.
But this is a great buy and easy to use I played this for 3 hours with no issues or problems. I’m pretty sure there’s nothing that compares yet.
So if anyone looking for a headset just buy it, it’s a good buy you get like 2 to 3 hours of gameplay depending on the game you play and if you get a extra battery well you have at least 3 to 4 hours maybe 5 depending on the game.
Plus you’re still wearing it wrong, you have to put those black slide ones close to your ports not far away.

My only complaint about it is that it's really big in the back. That's why I got another strap when I wanna lay down and I use a 10 foot cable connected to a charger on my power strip! You can also use the meta pro style without the face plate like an AR so you can do work and watch movies without it constantly pressing on your face. Give another go why don't you? The six month subscription you get with the Quest 3 doesn't cost Meta anything though, for them it's nowhere near the cost of an elite strap. That you get to rent 12 games over six months for free, that's more beneficial to Meta than it is to the consumer. For them it's potential steady income should anyone continue the service (or forget to turn it off), while for us it's a mediocre game rental service - one that pretends you own something, as you "collect" titles every month.
Great review though! I had the M2 previously and loved it... but it does absolutely seem like they rushed the development of the M3. Real shame.

TLDR: this is the least comfortable VR headset strap i've ever used. Compared to the Q3 stock strap, the Q3 Elite strap, the Q1 strap, the Q2 strap and both Apple Vision Pro straps I found the BoboVR M3 was the least comfortable. I'd imagine what i've largely learned here is I don't like this 'halo' style of headset strap.
I found the fake leather of the M3 made things super sweaty compared to a fabric approach. Out of every strap i've used it caused the most face marks and messy hair. When putting it on my short hair would also keep getting caught on something (joints of the strap or the velcro, not sure) and hurt a ton as it plucked hairs out. When using it without the light shield it bounces everywhere and is unusable.
The battery approach was great and I didn't get any hissing. Attaching it to the headset was also fine, a little bit annoying with the short velcro but got it on within a minute or so with no damage. I just found it was the most uncomfortable headset strap i've ever used.

I have the strap too and also have the hissing sound, whine coil or whatever on the battery. It's kind of annoying but I don't hear it when I play games at medium volume. Also when the quest battery goes below 70-75%, the noise seems to stop, at least for me. Still this shouldn't be a thing.
In most games the headset battery stays at the same percentage. For me I could always get at least 1 hour to 1.5 hours of playtime before the battery was drained, so idk how you got only 40mins out of it. However in some games the headset percentage did go down (like 5%), noticed that in dungeons of eternity and some games that use MR.
The M3 is definetly not perfect but I think it's still a decent solution for the price and I'm really satisfied with the comfort, can easily play for 2-3 hours now. Would love to see some upgraded batteries though so I don't have to charge my headset seperately after a while.

I’m after a new headstrap with battery. I’ve had 2 of Meta’s Elite Straps and they’ve both been duds that have the issue that they don’t charge the headset at all. Now they’ve stopped selling the Elite Strap and they won’t return my emails for a refund.
Really need a comfy strap with a good battery. The headset dies so fast.
