I saw them live two nights ago opening for Daughtry and rocked out...Funny story, I saw Ian Thornley with his solo project Thornley when Big Wreck split up in the early 2000's when I was a teenager...Cool to see him live again and fronting Big Wreck again after I saw him play so many years ago.
I don't think the average person has a clue at how good this song is. Top to bottom, start to finish, this is a rock masterpiece, in my humble opinion!
@@2204JCM Without a doubt, it's a complete package! And they have so many! That bass line is off the charts! And the nuance of the song makes me want to weep.
Back when the album released I was discussing the bass tab for this song on one site or another, and where to find an accurate tab. The next day David responds to the posts with something like, "Well here's how I play it"... and gives us his sheet music. Couldn't believe it.
Saw them do this live two nights ago and was blown away....So badass...They are on tour with Daughtry right now and his band is awesome as well...What a great concert all around.
100 percent agree on all comments stated, totally underrated, saw these guys few years back in Brampton Ontario, on Canada Day celebration, which happens to be my birthday by the way, they were amazing, extremely talented band, ten thumbs up if I had them to this Canadian masterpiece.
Seriously underrated band, this is one of those rare groups that doesn't align with industry for the sake of playing what they feel, and I am so grateful to have discovered them recently and in the nick of time (2023)... This song helped carry me through a challenging time for me and my family, where I was forced to be away during Christmas to deal with some unfair circumstances. Being able to play the lyrics in my head helped me keep my sanity - Will always be grateful for that! 🔥
That bass line is incredible, and the SRV-style solo is equally incredible. The solo absolutely flips the mellow Waddy Wachtel-style 16th note rhythm on it's lid. That 16th note rhythm is probably the most incredible element. Being able to maintain picking perfectly-timed 16th notes in rhythm with a perfectly timed delay filling in the dotted 8th notes in the measure, and keeping from rushing or dragging. Shit's crazy. And, to do it live while singing is insane.
saw them live in 2013 2nd best band i ever saw live just behind the trews wich is the greatest canadian band big wreck is right behind them just need more good songs besides 5
+Bob Marley Couldn't agree more. Not very often you have a band sound as good if not better than a recorded album. Love how Ian dictates to the sound booth what he wants mid show. For a seasoned veteran he can still fucking belt it out.
For the longest time, I would hear this song on the radio and think it was Chris Cornell :P I don't know why I missed out on these guys for so long but what a great band.
I hope you've heard his vocals on the title track for Albatross. My sister turned me on to this band literally yesterday! He sounds like Cornell when he sings, and he sounds like SRV when he plays on this song! I'm looking forward to going down the Thornley/Big Wreck rabbit hole.
They are above and beyond amazing. Every time I hear Ian sing live, i find myself looking at him and shaking my head because i just cannot believe the sound that comes from his vocal chords. I am so in awe of his talent! I saw them last night for the first time post-pandemic
First time I heard this song on the radio I tuned in right when the solo started and thought it was a Bowie/srv part from the 80s that I had never heard, killer guitar
I thought it was STING singing the verses amazing vocals and IAN is an incredible guitarist and songwriter and I think BIG WRECK IS THE PINNACLE OF MUSICIANS keeping ROCK alive
I just found about this music a couple days ago. I'm having a hard time accepting that one person can have this combination of technical skill, taste, songwriting, and singing chops all at once.
He's got the whole package for sure. It makes no sense that he and the band aren't beyond famous by now. Apparently Ian auditioned to be lead singer for Velvet Revolver when they first formed but he ended up turning it down because he just couldn't do the leader singer role without playing guitar as well. Have fun catching up on the Big Wreck discography if you haven't already, and also check out Thornley, which was Ian's solo band.
I've had the privilege to see them 5 times live, first time was their first album, epic band from the start pumping out some of the best rock ever. I still listen to big wreck and extreme in my opinion best under appreciated rock bands ever. But big wreck steals my heart and soul as i can listen to them on the drive home random radio play... and its like im back at that concert rocking out. Thank you for your music from the bottom of my heart, your music will stay with me for life.
Is it just me...or does this tune make anyone else visualize driving down a long dark paved highway at night...yellow lines flying by on the blacktop as you cruise in your ragtop 1970 Oldsmobile 442 convertible? And you are either leaving something in your past behind...or racing to get home to the one you love? Nah? Just me? Alrighty then. ...but you're thinking it now. And this tune is the perfect soundtrack to that scenario.
This is the first time I think I've heard of this band and they they are mind blowingly great. Great vocals, melodic and interesting songs, flawless live playing - super impressed!
This is big wreck taking it back to simple techniques and making something epic. "If these ghosts let me go, I would set fire to them all". Love that line!
"If these ghosts let me go, I would set fire to them all" My interpretation of these "Ghosts" is that these are missed opportunities and regrets that haunt oneself but that are completely unchangeable in the regretful present. Universal to every person who has had to make choices and live with them.
I really liked this song in the first 10 seconds I heard it. It's nice to hear new music that is deep in sound. It has a Pink floyd feel to it. Instant Classic!
One of my fave bands. I grew up listening to all classic rock from Van Halen to Led Zep, Scorpions, Metallica, The Who, Rush, Aerosmith, The Cult etc...even pop rock like Simple Minds, and so many more....lol.....but when I first heard this band and Ian's voice in the late 90s, I knew they were a special band. Wish people were still buying albums nowadays with these guys selling huge. You can lump a lot of music out there nowadays and very very little I like, but this is great.

One of the most underrated bands in the last 25 years
Very true

If only there was a way we could get Big Wreck to open for The Foo Fighters?! THAT would be the world's _greatest_ concert, IMO of course.
Ufffff... the oaf...
Concrete Blonde... also !
I don't think the average person has a clue at how good this song is. Top to bottom, start to finish, this is a rock masterpiece, in my humble opinion!
I could have been better -if they made the solo longer...

@@stevenfreiria4603 They came out when I was in high school, I'm 39 now and still love them. Amazing in concert, too!
I SHARE YOUR HUMBLE OPINION- LOVED THIS BAND FROM THE VERY FIRST TIME I HEARD THIS SONG❣️❣️🇨🇦
I'm here to confirm that the average person has no idea what a MASTERPIECE this is on bass
the bass guitar in this song is legendary
if i could double like this comment, it still wouldnt be good enough to do the bass justice.
Abso- he’s a beast

I’m having a lesson with Dave in a couple of weeks!! So excited!!
One of the greatest songs ever written! 👍🙏❤️

Ian thornley is amazing! Amazing singer, song writer and guitar player. Supporting musicians are top shelf 👌 🇨🇦
true
Canadian musicians... so bloody talented
Yup
Concert gave me goosebumps
Scientific fact. Been playing drums since 4. Hope I could be added on that talented list someday
Yep we have a LOT of seriously under-rated musicians eh Angelo Bernardo
I think only Ian is Canadian. Correct me if I'm wrong.... or Google will in 5 minutes

That's the entire role of a bassist...
the best part about these guys is they sound even better live.

I believe it ... like a really loud stereo system, probably. I heard Little River Band and that's exactly what I thought about them.
Yeah. I saw them live about 5 months ago. They were amazing.
hell yes and they touring again this year!!
The drums and bass production is superb! Song is awesome too!
For the longest time, I would hear this song on the radio and think it was Chris Cornell :P I don't know why I missed out on these guys for so long but what a great band.

Nah. I think the song is sooo good the average person CAN appreciate it. 👌
Great job Ian, you're making Canada proud!
6 years later - making the human race proud!
Criminally underrated band... so good
This band is killer and don’t get the recognition they deserve
I think the bass runs in this tune alone deserve a standing ovation. One of the best bands ever 🔥🔥🔥
The amount of intricate musicality going on here boggles the imagination. Inspires and makes you wanna give up all at once
They are above and beyond amazing. Every time I hear Ian sing live, i find myself looking at him and shaking my head because i just cannot believe the sound that comes from his vocal chords. I am so in awe of his talent! I saw them last night for the first time post-pandemic
wild
These guys have been Diamonds in the Rough since the 90's! Awesome Band! Awesome tune!
I hear SRV and Jeff Beck influences in his style. Hats off to him for saluting to those greats.
Yes. Very bluesy solo. Great song.
Thank you captain
+teleT Gomes LOL! me too...
Gotta love those cap interviews!
+teleT Gomes Technically, it should be "Thank you Rob for informing The Captain". lol
krucify87 yup rob doing the work :)
+teleT Gomes Same here. But Ive like them for years but needed to catch up. My fav song of there's is ladylike. The solo is so bad ass. Great piece.
Bit of Jeff Healey in that solo too... How does this not have millions of views? Great song
It does now
He stated that it is inspired by SRV.
This is probably THE BEST Big Wreck song LYRICALLY instrumentally VOCALLY 🎉 MASTERPIECE 🎉
Soooo fuckin great. One of the most underrated bands ever and one of the most underrated axe men🎸...period.
How the fuck does this song not have more views?
Bonne question!! - Good question !! :/
Because radio stations are retarded and it's hard to get attention by bands like that
Because its not on vevo, my local rock radio station plays it quite a bit
i guess you are from NA, in Europe it's nearly impossible to hear this band, because it's not a mainstream from USA...
GIve it time. Spread the word.
Man this is good.
"If my scars were tattoos, I could hide them in plain view." I may need this tattooed on the back of my forearm. Powerful lyric!
This is vintage Big Wreck right here.
This is so achingly beautiful, whoever said rock or blues is dead are not looking hard enough
HAPPY THANKSGIVING CANADA! 🤘😝🤘
Great positive comments as I scrolled through - hope is not lost for humanity.

Just got my ticket for gig in Kitchener this November. Since Big Wreck are too big to tour Ireland, Ireland will come to Canada!😎
This song is absolutely amazing
They have a Mozartian ability to lay tracks that never seems out of place................I love you.
Very proud to be Canadian knowing these fabulous musicians are Canadian and they represent us with honour. Keep up the great work guys!
One of the greatest songs of all time!!
I saw Big Wreck live a couple nights ago and this was one of my fav songs they did in concert.....Rad.
Hands down Ian Thornley is the Best guitar player of my time.
Amen brother. Pure brilliance.
What I love is how tasteful his riffs, melodies and solos are. He doesn't try hard, it just comes naturally to him

One of the greatest bands of 2000s
Formed in 92 bro
I'm so into this song, could watch it a thousand time, still wouldn't make any different as if it was the first time.
For some reason, I just heard this on the radio for the first time last night. Sounds great!
Phenominal song!!! Just needs the full album version guitar solo at the end.
One of the best bands ever they are so underrated every song they write is simply amazing
this song should have views in the millions!
I adore this song. I'm so happy when my 8 year old daughter sings it. Ian's voice is velvet and the bass is brilliant.
Solo in the middle is channeling SRV so hard and I love it
Such an under rated band.
I love how Ian Thornley has been ready to be a guitar god ever since he reformed Big Wreck.
This band is so freaking good. Probably the best live band there is. Can barely tell the difference between studio recordings and live stuff.
This song wakes up such a nostalgic and awesome memories of long Canadian Winters. Killer song!!!!!!
Just a single tear. that is all.... IT'S SO BEAUTIFUL!!!!!
Love the voice, the rythm everything...when i hear this song it gives me goosebumps
I KNOW RIGHT!! I HAVE GOOSBUMBS NOW!
i hear you, its out of this world
Pretty damn amazing song.

This play list made me buy the album.
Incredible song
Will see them live for the first time Nov 10
This song is probably big wreck's best underrated song, Ian show's his inner Stevie Ray Vaughan
This is big wreck taking it back to simple techniques and making something epic. "If these ghosts let me go, I would set fire to them all". Love that line!

They played this in ottawa during Christmas at Bronson Center. A master piece sounds even better live!!!
These guys rock! Albatross IS a great album! And Ian is a guitar virtuoso.
I really liked this song in the first 10 seconds I heard it.
It's nice to hear new music that is deep in sound.
It has a Pink floyd feel to it.

LongDrivesAtNight amen to that . I love all those bands. WOW I have mad props for both Big Wreck and Ian Fletcher Thornley!!!
Thornley is a much better player than I thought.... In particular his rhythm playing.... He moves around a lot within each chord....
been a fan of big wreck for a long time... i do agree there should be more views.. its strange.. theyve been unsung heroes for so long.
Absolutely the best piece of music ever written and flawlessly presented. Incredible, Absolutely amazing.
Nov 21/23 see you guys there ❤❤❤❤
Beyond killer!
This album has some funk to it. love it
the blues are calling you. that was one of the best guitar/bass solo ever
He nailed that solo ! Very talented !
From start to finish... GREAT album. Can't stop listening to it.

Vocals very Stingesque. Great sound all round. New fan.
Anyone else hear the Eye of the Tiger riff??
One of the most underrated bands in the last 2 decades.........
They are coming to my town for my birthday...cant wait!
This entire album is AWESOME. There's a song called Hey Mama that is the best song Led Zep never wrote.
agree
I third that opinion! Best song I've heard in years!
and of course "Friends". Jeez Louise, what a ballbuster.
Hey Mama? Is it about the way she moves?
Great sound
Amazing song. I have been a fan for many, many years. Every time a new cd is released it always produces a vibrancy and creativity that is uniquely the trademark of Ian Thornley. May he never retire..LOL
absolutely superb.
Berklee gave Ian countless noise violations... for giving them pleasure pimples? I haven't had my arm hair stand on end like that from a solo in way to long. Faith in new music restored.

Thank you for reinstating guitar solos!
This man reminds me Chris Cornell (face and voice)
This song is awesome and I love the guitar solo !!!!
Love this band . They are the bomb 🥰🥰🥰
JEEBUS MOTHER****ING CHRISTMAS!!!!

So faint the walls behind me now
I know where they stand
I know the way home
Outrun the storm above our heads
Every other day
I know the way home
And if the stars all align
And my hands were untied
If these ghosts let me go
I would set fire to them all
Beware the dust gets in your eyes
Can't see through the lines
I know the way home
'Cause the horizon greets another day
A shame we couldn't stay
I know my way home
And if the stars all align
And my hands were untied
If these ghosts let me go
I would set fire to them all
And if my scars were tattoos
I could hide them in plain view
If these ghosts let me go
I would set fire to them all
And if the stars all align
And my hands were untied
If these ghosts let me go
I would set fire to them all
Thank you @ Paul M
