That's where I heard them first 10 years ago. I remember it like it was yesterday. I was a terrified international student on a bus to school on my first dark winter morning and this song came on. Suddenly all was well :)
When I first heard this song, I was already a huge fan. I was listening to it and my daughter, 8 or 9 at the time, asked me why I liked it, or what it meant. So I introduced her to S.T. Coleridge's "Rime of the Ancient Mariner" by reading it to her, and explaining about the significance of the albatross. She remembers it to this day as a real bonding moment between us. That's really all I had to share. Thanks.
Long live baritone voices. Feels good to hear than even after losing the living legend that was Cornell, there's still some incredibly beautiful and powerful voices in the world. This song goes straight to my soul. It's amazingly beautiful !

Big Wreck is by a huge margin the best live band I have seen ever. Do not get to the end of your life and not see a Big Wreck show! Not only is Ian a world class massive talent in all respects, but the entire band are masters of their craft. The tightest live act I have seen in my 40+ years of attending live shows. I can't wait to see them again!
In my mind, Big Wreck has well exceeded all the conventional (and non-conventional) metrics of success. I’ll be seeing them in Hamilton (for the 25th (?) time) for the launch of the North American Tour! Mad props Ian! 🇨🇦
First time hearing Big Wreck and this music just hits differently man. Gives me Chris Cornell vibes. Great stuff and and refreshing change compared to the same generic, auto tuned garbage around these days.
So incredibly heartbroken over Brian’s passing , he will live on in my heart and his music 😔.. I am thankful I saw him one last time on the ILMO tour last year
Everyone of us have worn the albatross on his neck at one point of life. That's why this song is so touching. The bonus is that it's a masterpiece musicwise.

Had a house fire last week and lost almost everything. Out of our house for 4 months along with a ton of external things going on that have been devastating to our family. On top of all that, Im in recovery and 5 months out of rehab. Both my girl and myself. Were still both sober and trying everyday to maintain that. This song just serves as a reminder to me everyday why im doing what im doing. It almost brings tears to my eyes. But out of the ashes, a phoenix rises as the old cliche goes. Thankful for everyday of life on this earth. Thanks to this band for writing this beautiful song.
facebook.com/notes/james-bukowiec/albatross-bearing-the-burden/10150427951982229/ As a recovering addict/alchoholic I chair our Christian 12 Step meetings from time to time. I love music, and since sobriety I even hear the lyrics. With that passion, I bring music to the group as a conversation starter and feelings prodder, to go deeper in recovery topics. It was my distinct honor to share my interpretation/reflection of my fave band Big Wreck with their new song Albatross. It sparked some great reaction and the peeps dug it. Albatross - Bearing the Burden Another obstacle for second stage recovery is the realization that in the early days we may be experiencing great change and revival, but the world around us may not recognize it. Whether it be loved ones, the courts, a wronged friend; not everyone is going to embrace our change. It becomes a burden to bear until God can restore what the locust have eaten. This song embraces that lament and concludes that we’re ok in spite of the weight.
One last cup of starlight Before I wake, and start my day A past so filled with promise Before I lost, I lost my way
He pauses to reflect (something as addicts we rarely did) and laments his lost potential. Whether real or imagined, our plans and dreams become derailed in addiction. Before we came to the point of realization that our lives had become unmanageable, we had lost our way. The consequence of addiction doesn’t arrive full blown upon us. It’s a progessive rot that begins with us leaving the path of God’s righteousness.
That’s ok and I’m alright I guess I’ll be lost again For one more night And that’s alright But I’m ok I’ll wear the Albatross For one more day
The idiom of wearing an “Albatross around your neck” comes from Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s famous poem “The Rime of the Ancient Mariner”. The Mariner, the captain of a ship, while isolated attemting to navigate in Antarctica, shoots with a crossbow, an Albatross, which the sailors regard as a good omen because it is leading them out of this trouble. As punishment, they make him wear the 30 lb Albatross corpse around his neck. The Albatross is a type of Christ. Killing it symbolizes our killing Christ in our lives. He wears this burden until he can again reconnect to God. He loses his crew and is beset by horrible sea creatures in a broiling tropical doldrum. The burden falls away later on in the poem when the Mariner can recognize the beauty in what he initially percieves as ugliness. When he can accept God’s ugliest creatures as His loving creations he is able to pray and the burden of the Albatross drops from his neck and he is relieved.
As a rest recalls the romance Before the bills and what you make I lost my friend in between them And that was more than I could take
As we wake from our addictive thinking and the reality and consequence of our lives as addicts comes into focus the things we discover can set us back. It can become more than we can take. This is when change must occur. Our sponsor, our compatriots in recovery, our Higher Power, our Saviour, says, “It’s ok. I will be with you through the storm”. We tell those in recovery to trust in Him and His plan. To surrender and pray. Embrace the ugliness of our addiction selves, by accepting the reality of who we have become apart from His Grace in order that we can be renewed by Salvation.
That’s ok and I’m alright I guess I’ll be lost again For one more night Yeah well that’s alright And I’m ok I’ll wear the Albatross For one more day
That feeling of being lost when in recovery, not fully believeing that we are on the right path is ok. It’s a natural part of the battle. At times it’s just about enduring for one more day. Those dry days will come. You’re ok. If moving forward in recovery is the ultimate goal, there can be times when we stand still. Trust the process, trust your Maker.
That’s ok and I’m alright I guess I’ll be lost again For one more night That’s alright And I’m ok I’ll wear the Albatross For one more day I’ll wear the Albatross For one more day I’ll wear the Albatross For one more day
And because I know, I’m alright
God says: Psalm 46:10 “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” Christ says: John 14:27 “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid” At times we need to chill out and know that we are all right; that God’s got it and that we can trust that it will be alright. Wear the burden for one more day, be lost again in recovery for one more night but KNOW that God’s got a plan for you and you need only to daily surrender and seek His will and you’ll be alright.
I really enjoy their take on all of their music videos. I love how they don't have some dramatic acting or shit in them. Just plain old band standing around each other and playing. That's all it needs when they have true talent.
Holy Crap, I hear this guy on the radio and "Love that Song" every time, so I finally start digging around on youtube....what the hell have I been missing?!?!?! I gotta go get this guys albums
Writing from States' side here and thanking Canada for this amazing band. I first heard them my senior year in high school when "The Oaf" was playing on the radio in early 1998. Out of curiosity I picked up a copy of "In Loving Memory Of" and was blown away. BW has always sounded like a countried up version of Soundgarden, which for whatever reason, is awesome. Ian Thornley is one of the best guitarists I've ever heard. Too bad more people down here don't know about them. Thanks again Canada!
Big wreaks just not "sell outs"!! Thank you for not selling out big wreak, struggle brings grace! Love your shit!! Need to keep my eyes peeled for your arrival!
Just discovered the band through Spotify and was impressed with the compositions, but then it came to me that the vocals remind me of Chris Cornell. What a find!
I really dig this bands music. After reading ur post it got me to thinking that He may have other priorities and doesn't want to deal with the greasiness. U are spot on about this dudes talent. Soulful.
He was a good friend of mine from grade 7 &8 at Lord Landsdowne Public School. He went off to Northern Secondary School and I went of to Central Technical School. We hanged out a few times in grade 9 then somehow I lost contact of him. He went off to Boston to study music
jason fidler Well then my work here is done. However, a lot of bands do release music on vinyl which you can usually purchase on their website, or you can even find some new records at HMV and other music stores.
I will always love this band until i die! They have gotten me through some tough times just by screaming along with them! Much love guys and i hope i will see you in canada one day ❤
Glad I had the privilege to see these guys thanks to my ex for his epic taste in rock, it was so magical & better then any recording. My condolences to the band 💜
I saw these guys in concert, they were amazing, they opened for motley crue in the city I live in, Sudbury. That one concert got me hooked. I now wake up to this song, and listen to it at least twice a day
My band opened up for them this summer… Amazing band, chatted with us, watched us play… Very cool! We watched them… You just lose your shit listening to how talented they are! Been a fan since day 1

What a beautiful song, for the past 6 years I have always put this song up as my birthday was appraoching. The moment the clock switches from 23:59 to 0:00, the guitars of this song would wake the next day. These lyrics and melancholy of this song somehow gives me solace, reflecting on the past year. Thanks Big Wreck, for this great song!
Have enjoyed this band since I first heard them in '97 or so. So glad they are back together! I wish I could play and sing like Ian! He kills it! Takes me back to my college time. Ian will tell you he is not even a singer, he is a pure guitar player who has to sing! Watched an interview where he talks about it! Don't care who he sounds like, he makes amazing music through and through! Keep up the great work guys!!!

These guys were huge in Canada back in '98 but couldn't break through in the US, but that happens to a lot of bands, they can't get popular anywhere else but their home country, or even their state if they're American. This was a great song to come back with too after a long absence
My thoughts are with you and your family, never give up. Lots of people are given 6 months to 2 years and are still here several years later. Besides, we need all the Big Wreck fans on board to keep them together this time! Going to see them in November.
I know that the "chemistry" thing has been touted by a lot of bands, but the reformation of Big Wreck proves that great music comes from a lot of different places and the connection between certain people and their musical experience can ultimately prove that a certain "chemistry" can exist between people in a collective unit known as "Big Wreck"!!!!!
Go deep! They are deep and wide! Lotsa styles and sounds all with a masterful dynamic. Here's the latest EP 7.2 in a playlist. It's a good sampler. ruclips.net/p/PLXv_ECFUO-1GmAYH6SQF_g2YnD3PNjped
I could never understand why Big Wreck didn't make it huge. To the finer point, I will never comprehend why Ian Thornley isn't an enormous star. The guy oozes talent. He has the voice, the songs, the skills, the looks, everything that's required to make it big. He is a phenomenal talent and star, yet most have never heard of him. It's a real shame that the music industry has favored lip-synching, auto-tuned, blah, blah, blah, disco crap, over this great artist and band.
Totally agree... Unfortunately he's at the age now where he probably won't get many world tours, awards and high profile attention but I'm satisfied with all the gigs they DO do being sold out by hardcore fans :).
I totally agree
Couldn't agree more!!
its cuz they didn't sell out like everyone else
An argument could be made for Ian's "Thornley" band selling out lol, but BW...definitely not.

Before we came to the point of realization that our lives had become unmanageable, we had lost our way. The consequence of addiction doesn’t arrive full blown upon us. It’s a progessive rot that begins with us leaving the path of God’s righteousness.
That’s ok and I’m alright
I guess I’ll be lost again
For one more night
And that’s alright
But I’m ok
I’ll wear the Albatross
For one more day
The idiom of wearing an “Albatross around your neck” comes from Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s famous poem “The Rime of the Ancient Mariner”.
As a rest recalls the romance
Before the bills and what you make
I lost my friend in between them
And that was more than I could take
As we wake from our addictive thinking and the reality and consequence of our lives as addicts comes into focus the things we discover can set us back.
That’s ok and I’m alright
I guess I’ll be lost again
For one more night
Yeah well that’s alright
And I’m ok
I’ll wear the Albatross
For one more day
That feeling of being lost when in recovery, not fully believeing that we are on the right path is ok. It’s a natural part of the battle. At times it’s just about enduring for one more day. Those dry days will come. You’re ok. If moving forward in recovery is the ultimate goal, there can be times when we stand still. Trust the process, trust your Maker.
That’s ok and I’m alright
I guess I’ll be lost again
For one more night
That’s alright
And I’m ok
I’ll wear the Albatross
For one more day
I’ll wear the Albatross
For one more day
I’ll wear the Albatross
For one more day
And because I know, I’m alright
God says:
Psalm 46:10
“Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth.”
Christ says:
John 14:27
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid”
At times we need to chill out and know that we are all right; that God’s got it and that we can trust that it will be alright.
One of my dads favorites before he passed. Still tear up when i hear it, love you dad.
Your dad had an AMAZING taste in music my man. Hope your doing ok.
Holy Crap, I hear this guy on the radio and "Love that Song" every time, so I finally start digging around on youtube....what the hell have I been missing?!?!?! I gotta go get this guys albums
My dad loves these guys and he went to a concert and he kept listening to this song and now I love it!!
Glad I met you all early 90's on stage even London Ontario.
Thanks again Canada!
no samples no electronic buttons no ghostwriting...just a bad ass band..BIG WRECK IZ BADASS.PERIOD
One of my all-time favorite songs 🎶
This song is the pinnacle of music in the 21st Century. Plain and simple.
Soulful.
That last vocal blast was insane . I listen to this song entirely for that
This song nevers gets old. Bring me back to some good times.
He was a good friend of mine from grade 7 &8 at Lord Landsdowne Public School. He went off to Northern Secondary School and I went of to Central Technical School. We hanged out a few times in grade 9 then somehow I lost contact of him. He went off to Boston to study music
It will be a long time before another band comes along and makes me forget about this one!!

Well then my work here is done. However, a lot of bands do release music on vinyl which you can usually purchase on their website, or you can even find some new records at HMV and other music stores.
Buy it from their website if you can...they get a bigger cut that way.
I will always love this band until i die! They have gotten me through some tough times just by screaming along with them! Much love guys and i hope i will see you in canada one day ❤
Peace n love t you.
Glad I had the privilege to see these guys thanks to my ex for his epic taste in rock, it was so magical & better then any recording. My condolences to the band 💜
My favourite artist of all time. No comparison.
Sounds great playing PTown 12.2.23!
Ian Thornley is just epic in everyway this band is so unappreciated, I really want to hear Ian to do a Chris Cornell tribute, he has the voice for it
I saw these guys in concert, they were amazing, they opened for motley crue in the city I live in, Sudbury. That one concert got me hooked. I now wake up to this song, and listen to it at least twice a day
RIP Brian Doherty, Heart and Soul!!
My band opened up for them this summer… Amazing band, chatted with us, watched us play… Very cool! We watched them… You just lose your shit listening to how talented they are! Been a fan since day 1
Nice! Who's your band man?
@@ginto1990 I used to be in a cover band named Gamut. We played the bar scene, including fairs. It was at the Arnprior Fair.
Loving this still Feb 24. Happy b day to me.
One of Myles Kennedy's favourite tracks.
One last cup of starlight
Before I wake and start my day
A past so filled with promise
Before I lost, I lost my way
Ah that's ok, and I'm alright
I guess I'll be lost again
For one more night

I'll wear the albatross
For one more day

As the past recalls the romance
Before the bets and what you make
I lost my friend inbetween them
And that was more than I could take
Ah that's ok, and I'm alright
I guess I'll be lost again
For one more night
Ooh and that's alright, I'm ok

What a beautiful song, for the past 6 years I have always put this song up as my birthday was appraoching. The moment the clock switches from 23:59 to 0:00, the guitars of this song would wake the next day. These lyrics and melancholy of this song somehow gives me solace, reflecting on the past year. Thanks Big Wreck, for this great song!
And for these past 6 years I've done it as well!
One of the greatest songs ever written.!!

These guys were huge in Canada back in '98 but couldn't break through in the US, but that happens to a lot of bands, they can't get popular anywhere else but their home country, or even their state if they're American. This was a great song to come back with too after a long absence
Canadian Rock and Roll is too hard for America, always has been. Rush, Triumph, Chilliwack, etc.
My thoughts are with you and your family, never give up. Lots of people are given 6 months to 2 years and are still here several years later. Besides, we need all the Big Wreck fans on board to keep them together this time! Going to see them in November.
If a biopic is ever made about Ian Thornley, we should find out if Timothy Olyphant can sing...
Heard this on the radio today in Fort Mcmurray and thought it was Cornell until I Shazammed it lol
Go deep! They are deep and wide! Lotsa styles and sounds all with a masterful dynamic.
Here's the latest EP 7.2 in a playlist. It's a good sampler.

I've read some of the negative comments and I think your all mental. I LOVE THAT SONG! The beginning of a life of musical geniuses.
