@ryand3rson 🎯 Ian's voice is amazing and has an incredibly close resemblance to Chris Cornell's (I'd love for the Seattle crew to call Ian and do a one-time "Ode to Chris" album). His voice and octave range is highly underrated, as is his guitar skills, sing writing skills and all of his bands.
This song is a true forgotten classic of the mid 2000s era alternative rock! I still remember hearing this for the first time shortly after HS graduation summer of 04.
I was doing a bit of spring cleaning yesterday and ran across my old cd case. I open it up to find a burnt cd labeled 8-14-04. I ran down to my garage and popped it into my cars cd player and low and behold this song was #1!!! haven't heard this song in almost 2 decades and honestly forgot all about it. I've since watched this video 6 times since yesterday LOL!!!!! Damn we grew up on good music
I was the Music Dir. of a great Active Rock radio station in the Midwest when Big Wreck came out and still was when Ian released this solo album. (In fact, I will always remember Dave Loncao, head of Promotion for Roadrunner Records, playing the Thornley album for me several weeks before the final mix was done to get my opinion on it.) Still, years later, I consider Big Wreck to be the biggest "heartbreak" of my entire career as an MD. I can't even explain how much I LOVED this band...how much I believed in their songs...how I was even more blown away after seeing the band live! I would've bet the farm that Big Wreck was going to be f%&king HUGE!!! I loved The Oaf (first single) so much (and all the follow up singles)...I think I worked this record to my other rock radio compatriots harder than Atlantic Records did. (OK...guess that's saying much, but that's another story.) And I did the same when the Thornley album came out...talked it up to my listeners & to my rock radio MD & PD pals. I remember thinking, "ok...so the Big Wreck album didn't hit the way I was sure it was...maybe rock music lovers will finally get it when they hear THIS." I got to be part of the start of pretty many bands that went on to be huge - Godsmack, Nickelback, Shinedown, etc. - and I STILL think the music Ian Thornley writes & sings is better than all those bands put together. But...that's just my opinion.
My uncle introduced to this song 11 years ago. He always had a good taste in music. He passed away yesterday, and I can't stop listening to this song. So far so good, but I'm still grieving.
I was introduced to this amazing band from my buddy in the mid to late 90’s & have been a big fan ever since. My buddy who introduced me to them had a very cool experience of seeing them live with myself in London,Ontario,Canada at the old “Call The Office” bar in 1996/97ish. We were walking along “York St.” in London,Ontario with a few of our other friends & as we were walking we could hear live music being played & my buddy was humming the words to the song,”The Oaf,My Luck Is Wasted” in which was being played on heavy rotation on London,Ontario’s FM96 Radio Station & the feed back was amazing as well as “Much Music” in Toronto. I’ve seen “Big Wreck” & “Thornley” a handful of times in both Windsor & London \m/ I’m going to see both “Big Wreck” & “Thornley” on March 8th @Casino Windsor in which will be the nicest venue I will have seen them at, which is an amazing sounding venue & holds 5,000 people. At first i didn’t understand why Ian Thornley was saying both “Big Wreck” & “Thornley” was playing because while performing with “Big Wreck” for many years he’s always played a handful of “Thornley” songs in the “Big Wreck” set list, but after seeing a few advertisements of this 2025 tour apparently it’s been 20yrs since the release of “Thornley’s” album “Come Again” & they have been touring in support of that album since 2024 which would have been 20yrs since the release & their other album “Tiny Pictures” released in 2009”. I’m very much so looking forward to March 8th in Windsor. It would have been cool if another amazing Canadian band played with them the “Tea Party” whom are from Windsor but who knows maybe the “Tea Party” boys might show up if their not on tour. Jeff Martin is one bad ass singer & guitarist as well.
Ian Thornley has an immense talent for song writing and as a guitarist......too bad the world hasn't noticed. Proud he's another CANADIAN MUSICAL STAR.
I love bands I stumble across I have never heard before and love them straight away. This band is fab I love them already and I'm a first time listener
Lee guitarist is such a sweetheart. He gave me his guitar pic and I had it for years and years and lost it and I was so sad over it, but this band is awesome. They’re great.
Just found a cd I burned in the early 2000's with this song along with a bunch of songs from FILTER... I'd forgotten how great this song was. those were great times in the alt rock music.
I saw Ian Thornley open for Nickelback in 2004 with Three Days Grace, and I expected him to really blow up from there. So talented and Big Wreck is such an underrated band as well.
Ian Thornley rips and is a VERY underrated Canadian musician. He should be light years ahead of Nicleback market wise. That fact that Nickleback made it huge and signed Thornley to 604 Records makes me a little sick to my stomach. Anyway, thems the breaks...
Hey Andre, the fact that Ian is on a smaller lable, gives him the ability to make the music he wants. I think this cd was produced by the singer from Bicklenack. I may be mistaken.
Saw these guys live in 2004. They opened for Finger Eleven I believe and completely blew them off stage. Met and shot the shit with Ken Tizzard, their bass player for a few. What a nice ass guy and a great band.
Love'em both, Finger Eleven rocks in their own right, but they were more of a flash in the pan than the raging forest fire that Ian/Big Wreck are (even if they go unrecognized)
Just heard this first time a little bit ago on Spotify and I swore it was Cornell!! Even the pics for the band on there, he looks like Chris Cornell!!!
Didn't realize how influenced I am by this exact sound. Crossfade, 32 Leaves, really early Seether & 3 Doors Down, all of Alice in Chains, hell even post-Staley (RIP! EVERY time my ma & I are in the car, an AiC song plays and has since the day my brother died 04/09//2011 & Down in a Hole played on the short 4 minute drive to the funeral parlor to be at his wake. It's nuts!)

You just never know. Your mind plays tricks on you. I thought this song was from so far back - like the 80s. I've searched for it in Google several times. Finally typed in "I wish I could so far, so good" and knowing my brain might be lying, clicked on Thornley Such a haunting chorus. Did not remember it as a metal tune. Its a classic, for sure.
This is song is so good, I can interpret into so much of my own life. I read somewhere that a high percentage of people don't even conceptually interpret a meaning to the music they listen to. Crazy, right, I didn't get the facts on the research, but it was found as such. What does that mean? It means they don't even care about a meaning to their song, or do not come to a conclusion of one. Wtf? No wonder so many people listen to pop music, nowadays it is just about getting high and shaking ass
Rock and roll's most under appreciated guitarist.
Full stop.
Vocals too

Phenomenal lyrics I love how Ian's just pouring his heart out ♡
Jesus! I had this song in my head for 2 days and I didn’t properly know the lyrics! It was driving me insane! Finally found it.
this band is so underrated af
I agree, only heard of them yesterday for some reason.
NotACat are you canadian?
No, I have a good friend that is, and he told me to listen to them.
NotACat ahh see thats why you didnt hear of them sooner! Well i hope you enjoy for the years to come lol
Yeah haha I plan on it. :)
100% forgot about this underrated gem. Nostalgic the moment I heard it for the first time in years today
Shot in Montreal, you can see the cold breaths, I love being CANADIAN!!!! These guys are killer !
You love living in a frozen tundra that favors minorities over normal people?
If soundgarden goes in the rock hall in 2020 Ian would be my first choice to sing with the band on that night.
Totally agree!
Canada's answer to Cornell
Heard this song come on the radio the other day, so glad I remembered who it's by! Thornley is amazing man, he deserves credit for sure👍

Wow, I’m so with you on this. It’s 2024 now, still convinced they were awesome and somehow amazingly neglected!!! I’m super pissed at Chad.
yeah it's kind of a mystery how thornley's debut wasn't massive... do you have a theory about that?

Одна из самых любимых песен! ! ! ! ! Первый раз я услышал её на Радио Ультра где-то в середине 2007 года. До этого её почему-то там не было.

Ian Thornley is definitely talented. I always enjoy listening to his music.
The most underrated rock song of All-Time!💯
Ian Thornley has an immense talent for song writing and as a guitarist......too bad the world hasn't noticed. Proud he's another CANADIAN MUSICAL STAR.

This song has been stuck in my head for 29 years
Just found a cd I burned in the early 2000's with this song along with a bunch of songs from FILTER... I'd forgotten how great this song was. those were great times in the alt rock music.
Back in 2003 when i heard this song on the radio i got the album the next day! very good first album from this band!
I saw Ian Thornley open for Nickelback in 2004 with Three Days Grace, and I expected him to really blow up from there. So talented and Big Wreck is such an underrated band as well.
I love this song; the meaningful lyrics are underscored by such a visceral delivery. Gotta crank it up AND belt it out....so far so so good 🎤 🎶🎼🎵✅👍

+hangnail It's cause of America. They dominate the media.
Hey Andre, the fact that Ian is on a smaller lable, gives him the ability to make the music he wants. I think this cd was produced by the singer from Bicklenack. I may be mistaken.
@@matthewscarfo3166 big wreck
The fact that Thornley opened for nickelcrack disturbs me. They suck.
Lol nothing wrong with nickleback, get over it.
Saw these guys live in 2004. They opened for Finger Eleven I believe and completely blew them off stage. Met and shot the shit with Ken Tizzard, their bass player for a few. What a nice ass guy and a great band.
Fun Fact: Saw Ian's band Big Wreck play two nights ago and dude still has it...Kool seeing him perform again live after all these years.
Love'em both, Finger Eleven rocks in their own right, but they were more of a flash in the pan than the raging forest fire that Ian/Big Wreck are (even if they go unrecognized)

It’s been a great 20 years watching Ian grow and flourish with his music ! Big Wreck is my number 1 band still .. so underrated!
Just heard this first time a little bit ago on Spotify and I swore it was Cornell!! Even the pics for the band on there, he looks like Chris Cornell!!!
I actually like Ian more than Cornel, but that's some pretty fantastic company to be in when talking vocals.
i love you Ian...you are a master of lyric and song...you make my heart sing
holy crap. All these years I had no idea Thornley and big wreck was the same dude.
I remember this track from like 2004. WTF.

Awesome 😎🤘🎵🎶🎵🖤
I really wish this band was still together! (original line-up) I had the chance to see them play in a small club and they were awesome!
That scream and upsweep on his guitar is epic at 2:22 !
I applaud the use of an iconic Canadian landmark in the background of this video. The siting is first-rate. bravo!

I believe that this song is not popular enough. This society needs to hear this amazing song.
One of my favorite artists. Here and with Big Wreck. This video, Ian reminds me of a young Dan Aykroyd

The best song in the album.
Ughhhhhh I forget about this song and then remember it years later--and it's still just as good as the first time I listened to it.
criminally underrated song. Cheers from Bulgaria guys, you rock!
You definitely came here because of the popular cover by Toma - Geroi. Just imagining Toma has half of the views this video got for all those years
