ABOUT A SLIGHT CHANGE OF PLANS
Named by Apple as the Best Show of the Year 2021, host Dr. Maya Shankar blends compassionate storytelling with the science of human behavior to help us understand who we are, and who we become, in the face of a big change.
You’ll hear extraordinary stories of change from celebrities like Tiffany Haddish, Kacey Musgraves, and Riz Ahmed, as well as real-life inspirations like Christine Ha, who became permanently blind in her early twenties and went on to win the reality TV show Master Chef; Richard Harris, the Australian doctor who rescued a boys’ soccer team trapped deep inside of a cave in Thailand; and Euna Lee, the Korean-American journalist who was held captive in North Korea for 140 days. The show also features science experts, like Adam Grant, Angela Duckworth, and Katy Milkman, who share strategies for how we can live happier and more fulfilling lives.

I'm a big fan of Isbell the musician / songwriter and, ever increasingly, the man.
I wound up appreciating Maya as much as Jason. Wonderful questions and context. Thanks

This is my first exposure to this podcast; I came for the Isbell. Maya, you are a great interviewer. All your questions are well thought out and probing in the exact right way. Highly intellectual and compelling.

"Turning off the critic in your brain and being creative...." advice many of us need to hear! Thank you for sharing the stories, Jason!

Right? It’s so much easier said then done. Rlly gotta try to break from that way of thinking and it takes work. “Don’t try” - Bukowski. I tend to find about 30 mins after waking up around 5:30AM is the best time for my creativity to flow.

I had so much respect for Jason before this. Now, the man is legend in my estimation. So well spoken and thoughtful responses, not just showing up and humoring Maya. We can now really understand his lyrics and their purposes. Great, insightful, hard questions that we all wanted to hear, and he answered honestly, respectfully, and with his usual brilliance. This artist literally puts his heart and soul into every album, no vapid filler songs like EVERY other musician. And, yes he is the artist the rest are musicians

I’m a linguist by degree, vocation and avocation. And I latch onto some voices cuz, phonics, round vowels and tambour. James Baldwin, Muhammad Ali, Jason Isbell and a raft of Creole/Cajun musicians. It’s fascinating.

As a recovering Baptist, I can attest to the cult-like nature of growing up in that environment. Catholics ain't got nothin' on the Baptists in the guilt department.
