At 8:07 The pick-up was signalling for a left turn. He was waiting for oncoming traffic to clear before crossing their lane. When that traffic was stopped by the gate, there only way to clear the right of way was to back up slightly. The white car was following too closely, and entered the marked area before being sure that they could clear the marked area. I defy anyone to sit in the pick-up and commit to staying on the jjright of way while looking to the left to decide if the oncoming train was going to pass in front of him or behind him. The real fault lies with whoever designed this intersection.
I will assume the guy is new to the area and when he saw the other arm come down he knew something was up. I too would not have gone through even though the arm was not down. How do I know the arm is not malfunctioning. And she just sat there and let him back into her. He will most likely be found at fault.
8:06 The truck is 100% at fault. The truck has the right-of-way and isn’t impeded by a crossing bar or stop light; he should have gone forward, and it's not the car driver's fault that he (squints) or she didn’t anticipate the truck driver backing up. A vehicle that backs into another is nearly always at fault.
No question the guy with the trailer is at fault. And he was off set plenty to allow him to have seen the car before hand. However, the car driver maybe could have seen what was about to happen and taken steps to avoid it, but technically not her fault...
@@ClariNerd It's funny to me you mention that. I own and operate big trucks, and I always find it funny how some folks think their pick up is a mechanical beast, when they're actually just a chihuahua with a loud bark...

The fun thing about trains (unless you are backing an entire train) is that the engines don't care if you are notch 5 forward or notch 5 backard. Sure! pull it in, "reverse!" "I don't care!"
I would say the white car was mostly at fault for the crash because they went in the stay clear zone, and they never let the truck know by honking that they were there.
Well that person in the White car probably didn't know that person was going to back up because the gate on the right wasn't even down which means the train wasn't going on that track but apparently the person in the truck didn't know that.
@@adamboath466 Tbh it's both of their faults Both drivers are fools, why the heck did the truck back up in the first place and the truck should had seen the white car behind them, thats what mirrors are for. And the white car wen't in the stay clear zone and was way too close to the truck
the Cumberland 5-Way was the best part of this episode of Grab Bag and these tracks that have the many sidings are really especially when more than one train passes through around the same time and the other train action was very good as always around the countryside and this is my favorite show to watch Thank You very much Virtual Railfan Grab Bag. 🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🇺🇲🇨🇦💨
White car technically most at fault, as she was standing in a keep clear cross-hatching area, and didn't leave adequate clearance to the vehicle in front.
I think the person at fault is the the person that designed that horrible train crossing. You guys have filmed some bad ones there. But if you think about it, the trains may have been there before cars.
Excellent railfan video, I appreciate all the emd power you showed for the older crowd😂 thanks for sharing

The white car is not supposed to be where it was stopped because it was in the x-marked road area. This is not considered a stopping area.
I know that person that backed into that car at Austell felt like a fool because the train wasn't even on that track!
and he is at fault with this video evidence
White car blocking the box.

The truck should have stopped before the white line, not on it, hence he would not need to back up.

As a resident of Central Maryland, although I knew Cumberland was a railroad hub, I never realized how busy it was added to Virtual Railfan.
What's the NS Research 36 car at 5:11? Thanks again VRF for another great bag.
Traffic Jam at Cumberland,Maryland. 😮
The truck was at fault, but you can say the car was also at fault to a lesser degree... he pulled to close to the truck!!!
That is one very important M1A2 Abrams tank. 1:55

Didn't she have a car behind her? No where to go.
@@TinkerTailor4303they didn't. That other vehicle was in another lane, headed in the opposite direction. Had plenty of room to back up
No car behind her; not her fault, but she could have prevented it by backing up, too.

8:12 the truck is at fault for backing into the car. Sedan driver can use this footage as evidence to prove him not at fault
I don't about your traffic rules but the white car entered a marked box which had no clear exit.

Yep.
This was a great Grabbag, NS EMD lash up with SD70ACE running long hood forward in Roanoke 👍!🛤🚂
Pickup truck makes shoving move without brakeman protecting leading end.
1:10 two trains with close numbers 31 and 32
Didn't the guy at Austel have a clear path? I didn't see his gate down since the train was behind him.
27 seconds was way more than enough time to cross ,truck drivers fault plus train not even on that track karen❤😂😂😂
do police or insurance companies ever ask for the footage? 8:10 seems like it could help solve the question of who is at fault legally.
Railroad was at fault for having a gate that drops when train is on the other track.
It's the same way with the single track, when a train is on it only one gate goes down on the double tracks, NS needs to fix this ASAP!
Both are at fault in Austell. The truck for backing up into the car and the car for being the box when it shouldn't have been.
Was this a Chehalis Special?
White car technically most at fault, as she was standing in a keep clear cross-hatching area, and didn't leave adequate clearance to the vehicle in front.

Way too much coverage in Chehalis.
Yep, it's ridiculous how much coverage it gets and one of the best spots in the country, Santa Fe junction, gets nothing anymore.
While we are complaining...I dont like all the people waving at the camera and also the fake train horn at the beginning and end of videos is lame.
