The only thing I want for skills is a better TREE system. Like being good at music then branches off to guitar or piano or singing or whatever and they don't all have to raise at the same rate, like you could specialize, but have them connect. I wish cooking, baking, and gormet cooking (and even herbology to be honest) all were branches of the same skill. I wish a craft skill fed into knitting, crossstitch, gemology, etc in some way. And Handiness fed into fabrication and plumbing and electric skills were broken apart. Right now, like the Build/Buy Catalog which could use a sorting/tagging overhaul, the skills could use a genuine overhaul so skills "talk" to other skills and you could see the value of how one skill feeds another. Also kids should naturally develope in some branch based on their childhood skills.
That's excatly what I want if Maxis makes a hobbies pack, a new UI for the skill trees where for example music skills get related, as well as artistics and stuff, and add challenges and new thing to do for as many skills as possible
At the time they announced that Sims 5 wasn't going to happen, I was compiling a wish list for things there, and this idea was one of them. I'd do your music idea slightly differently, in that I'd have a 'music theory' skill, and if you had that, then your compositions would be of higher quality, and it would be easier to learn other instruments, but you wouldn't need it. The big one I'd change is actually the Fitness skill, I'd have that as a base, but there would be other sports skills like football, soccer, tennis, gymnastics that would be limited by the rank in fitness, AND by a hidden trait in having an aptitude for a sport, so if you weren't naturally gifted, you would struggle to get in to the careers (and I'd also change the Athletic careers so if you were a pro sports person, when you became an adult, you'd have to transition in to a different role in the sport like coaching or being a TV analyst). I just like the idea of having to discover what sports a sim was good at, at a young age, so you can maybe get the storytelling of what happens if the child sim starts to dislike what they are doing etc
I like the idea of a skill supporting another skill. I really miss the sims 3 skills journal and challenges. It they fleshed skilling out sims 4 could be a more fullfilling game for the simmers who like achieving things. (Sims 4 achievements don't count for me as they don't help a sims progress better)
I've seen something like this in the Paralives showcases actually. There they have a instrument related skill but also a music skill (i suppose something like theory, learning about chords and keys and stuff) and they are intertwined somehow, so during guitar skill for example you gain guitar, but also a little bit of music skill. We'll see how that works in gameplay I guess.
Painting, I really like. I usually don't use the genre paintings but the "paint from reference" feature (along with the mod that removes the atrocious painting filter and allows you to add the photography ones) and then utilise it much like you described for the writing skill. I had Brent Hecking be a marine painter once and he just dragged his easel to the shore or harbour every day and painted things there. If you do a lot of building, having a local painter who documents how the town is changing and then have his home turn into a museum after he passes, is also fun. I just really wish, we could get nicer frames for the paintings.
The best thing about high archeology skill in the game is that once you've gotten to a certain level, you get sent artifacts to authenticate and if your sim does authenticate them and mails them back, you get 3k-4k. You never need to work again. It makes SO much money!
Yes! That's why I love the skill so much.
so hear me out with the baking skill I feel like its very lackluster for the fact that most things that would be considered "baking" are in the cooking section which makes baking feel like a weird extra with not much purpose!! but as someone who would love to be a patissier irl it would be nice to have that as a career but like not a rabbithole lol
Yes! I think if Baking had been patched into the Base Game, then they could have made it more useful by placing cakes and such under it. I know they already put Photography to the Base Game which was also originally Get To Work, but I wouldn't be mad if they did Baking too.
Btw, once you hit Archeology skill level 9, you will be getting relics in the mail that you can authenticate on your archeology table. It's worth 3-4k per item and you get one almost every day, which makes archeology a great money maker, even if you stop going to the jungle to explore temples and get treasures to sell. So for me, it's an easy ROSEBUD tier skill.
Gemology skill goes up super quick in the scientist career
Yeah you just dig for a couple of crystals and metals and you ended getting a level😂 (but still it has become one of my favorite skills😌)
@fredchu3982 the chemistry lab is good for building it aswell 😂
Oh good to know! 💜 💎
Understatement, I had one scientist sim just work on the chem lab and that skill bar skyrocketed 😭
And all the material you can get from the lab on resource finding day!
i thought the title said kill..... still a good video, but now i want a sims 4 death tierlist lmao
😈 that i can do
If they had made it where the games you make with programming could be played on your phone or computer it would've been perfection. ❤
thank you for putting horse riding, the romance skill and winemaking in tragic clown loll. i dont have either pack but it helps with my fomo bc those skills sound so good in theory
ok you triggered me with the swimming comment cuz i am a person who LOVES swimming and HATES any kind of gym, fitness type stuff irl. so the idea that swimming a lot suddenly makes my sim want to work out at the gym? hell no lol, swimming should 100% be separate from fitness.
Gemology is great. I love the jewellery, making it, gifting it, wearing it - but I also had a great time running a little shop that exclusively sold crystal garden gnomes.
i wish that the gardening grafting system got expanded. seasons, cottage living and outdoor retreat added so many cool plants but you cant graft most of them
That hair suits you so well! Love it 🫶🏼 and this video was so helpful for gameplay ideas, thank you!
I love the l9cal culture skill. I think every world should have their own. To learn how they salute, dance and foods. I think it would be great for sims to learn the local culture of the world so they can cook new dishes, learn new dances.
Maybe even for the hidden worlds too, like a Sixam culture skill so you could make food with the alien plants, that might not be appreciated by non-alien Sims...
I find that the paranormal investigator career to be superfun and profitable. I had several sims in the paranormal career to fund my university career.
Thank you for your Broadcast on the Sims four. Long time watch but just signed up for RUclips account so I would not need to starch for your Channel and Satchonsim channel all the time. Hopefully it will alert me when you post. Thanks again.
Sims 3 photography skill was one of my favorite skills in that game. What you photographed actually mattered and added to a collection, and it was so detailed and fun. When we got the photography skill in get to work I so badly hoped it would be similar, but it just SUCKS. It's so bad. I almost never make my sims take photos to be honest, I don't see the point aside from family photos.
I mostly agree with you on how you ranked them. I would move fitness up a little as I think its fun that they live longer from being healthier. I love the cross stitch skill butt hate tthat my Sims gett obsessed and will Not Stop sewing away. I leave them for a minute and there they go. Thats nott really the skill itts a Sims 4 tthing where Sims gett stuck on sometthing like push ups and will not give it a rest!
I thought about playing with Johnny Zest & having him rebirth to his parents again but having Malcolm disowned & Geoff & Nancy did so he inherits everything as revenge for disowning him before but I'm not good at doing storylines & cash it out like you would. I'm sure you could make it very interesting if you were to do it.
Photography is annoying because you can’t take pics in the moment, I’d rather be able to get the screen shots we take and use them as photos. You should be able to hire a photographer for your weddings so you actually get some good photos.
Looking at the list of skills I really wish we had more aspirations in the game that utilized each of them, along with ones where u have to mix skills together. I feel like compared to sims 3 sims 4 is so lacking in aspirations, which could really improve the game thinking about it!!!
Vampire skill: You also learn how to make garlic braids and garlic wreaths! Have I ever made my sims make them? No, but I always mean to try it out lol
(btw it's HilLock, not HilCock 😅)
Remember when you had to have friends in order to up your charisma skill
The hair is cuuute, love it
My faves are writing, painting, gemology, cooking, and handiness.
Just here to say: Your hair looks SO cute!
This was sooo helpful. Now I can spend time on skills that have a more direct link to my story line instead of wasting time on dead end ones. Thank you!
Oh my god! Cute haircut ✨
Here from your Bluesky tweet
I think your hair cut looks gorgeous!! I just couldn’t tell for sure if you had cut it at first lol. Boy logic lol.
Great video. I mostly agree with your choices. Exception being DJ skill (rarely use,) gourmet cooking I would have placed with homestyle/baking and painting I prob would have put in middle tier, though that's nitpicking. The entrepreneur skill was a surprise how much it ties into things - I'm going to have to pay more attention to it.
I have to advocate for horseback riding. I have good rags to riches doing horseback gigs and entering competitions, ranking depending on the different skills you level up with your horse. Thanks for this detailed ranking! I forgot about several on here.
I noticed it last video. Your hair looks awesome!
I'm here for SKILLS and I'll die for SKILLS😌😌😌
I totally got the dancing skill mixed up with the dance machine trait!
I thought you'd be able to ski, like those litlle slalem games
Cooking had them Crumplebottom beans, roots in water, IN WATER! The whole kitchen lookin at herrr!
😱You mean you don't bake stuff in a giant factory sized oven system? You gotta try it...taste the smell of industry in every bite 🥸😎
I'm so excited for your thi yap session because I feel like I keep reusing the same skills over and over again 🤭🤭
I think I really need to play with some of these skills. I think I been short change my sim
I started a new playthrough for L&D with a family where the mother is a crafter and homemaker so I put a cross stitch kit in her crafting space, and it seems what all of them only wanted to do, so I definitely have to check my NAPs lol.
Though it got me a very cute screenshot of mother and son cross stitching together
The cross-stitch kit is covered in sim catnip. It's all or nothing - either you have one and your sims are obsessed with it, or you don't have one.
After playing with that save for a bit, I have found this is absolutely correct, lol. If I don't have my eye on them they will go do cross stitch. Not that I necessarily *mind* but I didn't really want the husband to be crafty lol
@@beasthenshin he must be trying it out to support his family members' interest!
lol, really, it is kind of bugged. You could try setting it as a disliked activity; I'm going to test that out the next time I load that game.
41:23 That's not true. You have to 1. complete the best selling author aspiration, 2. capture a sim's essence while they are alive (it doesn't work with ghosts), and 3. (I'm adding this just to include extra info) the book can't be written for your sim, they can only write it for others.
YESSSS Caitvi!
I’m exploring flower arranging currently and wow 😱
Uhm maybe someone asked already .But
Where is the Persuasion skill ?
persuasion isn’t a skill in the game, you might be thinking of research and debate?
I also don’t like horse riding😭 I really like writing, snowboarding, wellness, piano and debate though!
i just clicked it from my main page and i hear caitvi and life is strange and gay?! im subscribing
I don't know how to say Caitvi too😅 So I just use piltoversfinest instead😂
super cute hairdo
Yep, Arcane is making us suffer double this time 😢

@EnglishSimmer do I have to buy the Sims again?? I'm actually gonna cry if I have to
@Eljehani base game is free for everyone now. did you have any packs? you shouldn’t have to, if it all goes correctly. but for some people their packs don’t show up properly, if that happens i’d get in touch with ea help asap and show proof of purchase
@EnglishSimmer it's free??! Damn I should've saved my money good things I didn't buy any packs. Thank u so much I will pray for u for the rest of my life I love u for this 🙏
Love ur hair
There's a journalist career? From what pack?
It is base game. When you reach level 6 of the writer career you can choose out of two branches: journalist or author.

@@simsspeler1757 Thank you. I haven't played with the writer career in many years and I didn't even think about there being a branch selection.
Hahah yeah I disagree with the video gaming skill, I see it really boring and useless 😂 And a correction: the Book of Life doesn't become available at writing skill 10, you need to finish the writing aspiration to get that 🙂
oh ye my bad but think you also need to be level 10 too
@EnglishSimmer yeah, most likely!
