Yes - those are from 2010 and they're great! If Strasburg had the career we all hoped he'd have, that card of his would be huge and more people would know about them.
There will always be a market for all kinds of vintage. Look at pre war cards 40-70 years collecting guys the never saw just to collect history. 20 years are collecting vg 50’s sets for same reason. Values may dip but will always be buyers.
Mike Trout was Ohtani before Ohtani. Injuries hurt his value, but he will be appreciated long term like other superstars cut short like Griffey, Koufax, etc. Trouts WAR is off the charts for career games played.
I love trout, but I dont think comparisons to griffey look too good at this point. Sure his WAR is great, but 600 Home runs means a lot more to more people. Can Trout even get to 500? 450? Will he ever sniff the postseason again? How can he MATTER in the current hobby?
Chris hit it right on the head on J-Rod’s Green Chrome not holding long term value and that is exactly why I sold it first on eBay:) Gimme more SSSSP’s!!!
Mike Trout should limp to 400 and 500 HRs the same way that Albert Pujols got to 600 and 700 HRs. The trailing years were because the length of the Players Contract. The Shohei Ohtani Contract should age better than most long-term deals...even better than Aaron Judge, Mookie Betts or Freddie Freeman. The Dodgers should Win a World Series with Ohtani, Betts and Freeman -- making the combination memorable like Henderson, Canseco and McGwire. People remember the Championships over the failures of teams that were assembled that didn't achieve the ultimate goal. Great video! Keep cranking out the quality content. 🎉🤓⚾️
Great episode guys! IMO, I feel the same way towards SSP's now. Over printing and now adding parallels to SP's aren't doing them any favors. And as y'all said, the imagery is tanking! Time to just stick to the tried and true favorites. Bowman Chrome Autos, Heritage Red Inks, Topps Chrome Autos, Topps Dynasty RPA's
I have been waiting since 2020 for image variations to become more popular. Even cards like Ohtani’s 2018 series 2 SP (not SSP) doesn’t hold the value I expected. Im also frustrated that Topps sucks at picking good images.
Picking good images seems like the easiest part of making cards. And yet, they make it appear impossible!!! That series 2 SP is a cool shot, but the PSA 10 pop is very high. Whats it selling for these days - $700-800? That's pretty damn good. Problem with Ohtani is that he has 3 flagship SSP, and 2 SP images. It;s a lot of cards!
In the current landscape, unnumbered parallels and cards simply aren't going to be viewed as the best cards of a player. It's unfortunate now that it's not easy to just come into the hobby and collect the best cards of a player. There's just too many options, even for someone with a massive budget.
Chris here - it's crazy confusing. So many cards just use the Topps Flagship design!! It's so tough to figure out what you should go after if you believe in a current player. I agree about the unnumbered - unless the image is truly special. But that just doesnt; seem to be happening.
Been collecting cards for 30 of the Last 35 yrs. Just got into vintage a little over a yr ago. It's done nothing but go up over that time frame and the Last 50 yrs other than the covid bubble. Why would it stop? Great show fellas 👏
Trout will be like Griffey and Pujols - lost luster due to injuries followed by a resurgence later on. Trout’s 2011 Topps Update is the most iconic card in baseball after the Griffey 89 UD and nothing comes close. It had the the same chase and hobby frenzy for over a decade after its release. The image itself is stunning and probably the best rookie card image ever. Ohtani, Judge, etc - no super iconic card stands out.
Chris here - I hope Trout has a resurgence. I'd love to see him get to 500 homers, but matching Griffey or Pujols' massive career totals seems sadly out of reach. The trout rookie image is great - agreed! I think the Bowman Chrome ohtani hitting image - also card #1 - will be the card of his that the hobby chooses. If it isnt already.
Anything that is overproduced eventually loses most of its value. There are SPs, SSPs and variations all over the place. In ten years, no one will want the vast majority of them and the ones that are still in demand will be selling for a fraction of today's prices.
Chris here - The ones with great images I think will maintain value and demand. People will remember them. All the stupid, pointless posed Golden Mirror SSP from 2024 series 2 and most of the 2024 Topps Chrome SP with dull, lame images are completely worthless cards in the next few years. It's so frustrating.
Aaron Judge is a bigger star than Bryce Harper IMO... And Bryce is a big one. Big fan of both. There are only two guys I stop what I am doing to watch their AB's~ Judge and Shohei ~ & Spittballin. The Yankees have to resign Soto or they will take a beating in NY... Its a must sign. Hitting in front of Judge is the best place in MLB to hit.
I appreciate the question Harper vs Judge long-term but barring injury for either player, Judge has to be the winner. Google says NYC has a pop of 8.33 million people. Philly has 1.5 mil. New yorkers have more money than people in Philly. Even if neither win a WS & both have long productive careers, there are simply waaaaay more Yankees fans in the world. Now, personally, I hope it's Harper.

@@SpitballinCards I'd be happy with 140, but who knows! He's one of those players with such a high peak, that I think if he has a good, injury-free season next year people will start talking about the HoF again.

@@SpitballinCards you are right. CF is hard enough for a guy built like Griffey. Judge isn’t built to play CF forever. If I were them I’d put Jazz in CF next spring

Don't forget there are some big name arms hitting Free agency this winter. Snell and Cole have opt outs, Fried is a FA, and Burnes will command HUGE money!!
yes please discuss the flawed comp system. There were probably one million cards sold at the nationals and no one of them goes towards comps, very flawed, how do we fix it.
It's impossible to catalogue all the cash deals. online Comps are the best we have right now. I'm not sure how to improve it. We should probably focus on improving people's understanding of comps.
Judge is less than a year older than Harper. Their career bWAR is pretty similar (52.2 vs 51.1). What ices it is Judge has 40% fewer at bats (3564 vs 5934), a 30 advantage on OPS+, and is relevant on defense. Obviously the OPS+ and defensive advantages could decrease with more at bats (i.e. age) but, given their relative ages, the only real question for me is whether Judge can stay healthy.
I think the issue with trimming and card cleaning etc applies to modern cards as well. On the contrary when we speak of a Sandy Koufax RC we aren’t talking about 72 variations. Numbered or not, modern cards are over printed they just make it look short printed by these different variations. I don’t think the hobby will die/bust. Cause the hobby also reflects the interest in the sport. As long as we are getting more people into the particular sport the demand for cards will sustain. People like Ohtani is one reason why more and more people in Asia want baseball cards. However I do think prices on majority of cards vintage and modern will see a huge adjustment shortly. Let’s face it, apart from the fake stuff we see on IG, how many people can afford a $500k basketball card? I know no one in my circle that can afford a $50k card never mind a $500k card. So if the prices keep going up, who’s buying them? I have heard from people that brought cards into Goldin and the results were far from expectations. But yet Goldin keeps trying to tell the media they are breaking sales records.
Speaking of SP’s. Today, I completed personally pulling the 2024 series 2 rookie short prints. The last one I needed was the Holliday “fun face”. I’ve doubled and triples up on 2 cards but finally pulled the true FF.
Its definitly a knock on a players carrer if he cant Win in the postseason.. It goes like this. "did they ever win?" You must Win to reach the absoulute pinnacle of the sport
Chris here = not for baseball. One player can't do it himself. Ted Williams, Barry Bonds are all time, inner circle greats. A great player can win the WS, it takes a great team. It takes 20+ guys to get it done. But, a WS win CAN definitely go a long way in the hobby!

When the hobby was obsessed with Trout, people were using large portions of their hobby budget to pick up Trout cards, and at that time, it left less $$ to be spent on the next 5 top players. Now it's Ohtani. People who want his rookie have to spend a big portion of their card budget to get the cards they want. Again, leaving less $$ to be spent on the next 5 players. This could be a great time to pick those other players up, while the hobby is obsessing over Shohei. Then later, if things neutralize, or if Shohei gets hurt, you are up on your long game.
No comparison between Harper and Judge for long term holds, Judge is gonna be remembered for all time accomplishments, what is Harper gonna be remembered for?
To be fair - harper has one of the biggest home runs in Phillies post season history. Right now, that's what hes remembered for. He can;t hit 58 homers in a season, but he can hit some big ones in October when they count the most.
Vintage: I think the current trimming and altering will help long term value of non altered vintage. They will figure out ways to detect true unaltered.

Why will my grandkids care about the vintage cards? 1 more generation and none of the vintage players are going to be remembered for their play. @@Blabbin_Bout_Slabbin 😂😂
That is a liver posing speed run if I’ve ever seen one 😂
@@scottiebcards2354 😂😂
SSP and SP parallels = dumb and takes away value of them
As any supply goes up, the demand will not match it. Especially when the images are as dull and boring as we've seen frequently in 2024.
11:47 my heart, ouch. i hear the Brewers might need a first baseman and i need a down payment on a house 😂
🤣🤣
No comparison between Harper and Judge for long term holds, Judge is gonna be remembered for all time accomplishments, what is Harper gonna be remembered for?
Harper will be in the HOF and will be remembered for hitting timely home runs in the playoffs
They will figure out ways to detect true unaltered.
but what about cards currently slabbed as unaltered that maybe snuck through??
Harper has been too injury prone and inconsistent. Also the move the first base hurts his war and has never hit over 42 hr in a season
Harper is definitely more hype and big moments than he his a career numbers guy.
Hi guys, would you trust buying PSA 10 Gem Mint cards from eBay eBay auctions via companies from Singapore or Asia in general? concerned about the authenticity esp if it doesn’t meet the requirements of eBay authenticity guarantee.Thank you in advance
Bottons!!!!❤
The show mascot!
Isn’t she the best? Thanks for watching!
Love the unedited send off, ha!
I like image variations
Chris here - so do i! But especially when the images are GREAT
@@SpitballinCards I hear you. They definitely could pick cooler images. By the way, the Jackson Holiday super factor auto out of Tops Chrome logo factor got hit last night.
Dynasty Black
Jeff here: LOVE that they are inserting the cards into products at all price levels!
@@Blabbin_Bout_Slabbin It's a great idea! As is Chris for SSP Top Image selector. I would look forward to his choices.
Get rid of Topps Now and make those moments the SSP's
Chris here - this is the one time where I'm totally fine with Topps reusing images. ToppsNow isn't the same as pack pulled cards and using the images in both just isn't a big deal!
Will pitchers ever be considered good investments in hobby?
Probably not. Just so much injury risk!!!
Do you guys believe that vintage cards are going to be considered art? I am in my 50s. My sons are in there 20s. Why will my grandkids care about the vintage cards? 1 more generation and none of the vintage players are going to be remembered for their play. Why would the cards hold their value if the demand changes with less people remembering or wanting the cards?
Chris here - I love this concept. I've heard people refer to the 1953 Topps cards as artwork before. Just a great looking set. They're all part of Americana after all.
Why does no one care about the SSP Hidden Gems???
Chris here - the hidden gems just never really caught on for me. IDK.
How about the hundred 1/1's that come out every year for one player.
for all you judge fanbois until he comes thru in the playoffs as in actually DOES something other than have a .211 ba and is nowhere near clutch hell be looked at as just short of mega star status imho
Who has the record for most HRs?? Legitimately. Who has multiple MVPs and going to have even more? Judge thats right.
@@coopstain1728 doesnt mean shit if he doesnt do it in the playoffs hes dak prescott if the yankees were cowgirls LOL
@@vendora1 Oh it DOES mean shit dude b/c his cards have gone up in value DRASTICALLY. Also Judge has the HR record. What more do I have to say. He will win ANOTHER MVP
@@coopstain1728 lolol not it doesnt and they have not gone up drastically lololololololololol and a hr record doesnt = a chip no matter how much you want it to judge is trout constantly hurt and never wins a chip and isnt clutch when he needs to be end of story NEXT btw i can get a judge 2015 bowman for 60 bucks that is shitty compared to other players
2020’ s Ohtani and Judge
Breaking has ruined the hobby imo. Too many SSPs and parallels as fools gold to make it seem as if the boxes have the MSRP value we all know they don’t have.
Someone’s dog needs attention 😂
Judge over Harper because of Home runs? Dude hasn't won a damn thing. That's trash.
They are killing the hobby. Topps
Current box prices are definitely NOT SUSTAINABLE
Philmington, on this video looked like he was going to quit the stream live lol Definitely was not seeing at the same as everyone else 😆
🤣🤣🤣
Love your show but I wish I knew what a SSP is/was? I only have a 1M collection and damned if I don't have a 1. Nor do I have 1 PSA 10 or a 1 of 1. I Spitball on SSP. and PMG. and RPA. All 3 letter acronyms I have recently learned that I don't need or want. Other than 2-rare Honus Wagner cards I own that must be SSSSSSSSSPPP, I did have an AMC Javelin 401 SST back in the 1970's that was a rocket ship. Does that count?
Wow
Does it count? NO! hahaha - sorry. Sounds like your collection is pretty great. If i had a 52 mantle, I doubt I'd wade into the SSP waters either!! But collect what you like - and what you can afford!!!
Thanks for watching!
I find it funny when those that don't bother with Vintage have an opinion on the success of Vintage. Every generation there will be collectors of the old stuff. Always has and always will. Vintage is the safest long term investment in the market and always will be
the dog barking in this video in the background made the video unwatchable.
My bad. I didn’t realize my mic was picking it up!
I'm just going to skip any video without Ty going forward. Chris and Jeff are essentially the same person and has very superficial opinions, its basically a 1 person conversation without Ty since Scott is more of a host/moderator than anything else.
Chris here - I'm not sure Jeff has ever been more insulted!
