chris here - those are what I'm most interested in as well. We all know why someone picked up a big card, but I like to know what drives people to smaller buys.
This. I even mentioned it recently on a video. Sometimes only hearing about HOF trajectory Rookie Autos can be demoralizing when I am just priced out. I collect Topps Chrome RCs for now, plus anything else at value. That is my first goal though.
Agreed. My daughter is a huge KAT fan. I can't wait to have her watch this section of the video. Looking forward to attending games this year at Target Center.
Feels good to know that I am not the only one getting 4 to 5 packages a day from all the singles I pick up haha. Nice addition to share recent pick ups. PS: Could see Chris' eyes glaze over as Ty shared his new Freeman TSC card 🤣
I know next to nothing about the current NBA, but just hearing your story about Karl Anthony Towns has made me a fan. Seems like he'd be a great ambassador for Topps to pursue as they transition to producing basketball products again. I went to Hobby Rip Night at one of my stores and it was fun, but unfortunately the cramped space made it very difficult to actually trade with everyone. It was awesome seeing so many kids there. Take care fellas!
Another fun discussion/video. Im not for getting post playing days cards but one card I bought was 2015 Topps Chrome #1 Derek Jeter, his last hit at Yankee Stadium and was a game winning walk off hit. Awesome card of his on field celebration. It was late 2014 so it was put in next year’s release after he retired so I gave myself an excuse. Stadium Club also has put out awesome cards, post playing years, of Derek Jeter and memorable events on the field.
Man best card was a Butler who we knew was going to be in the resent pickups 😅😊😂 Na nice pickups Scott. Great showing everywhere I seen for the Topps night. Nice PC pickups gents and Jeff & Chris again great video on how you guys bought the BIG BLUE!!!
Ty, I would say ripping is treated like gambling but it is not gambling. An uncorrupted kid opens a pack and just enjoys the cards not worrying about reselling. Sadly most kids are not corrupted. Hopefully a majority of kids open packs hoping for their favorite player without the thought of reselling, that would not be gambling.
To a point, absolutely! I remember ripping 1987 Topps hockey packs just looking for Rangers cards. And maybe realizing that it was just luck if I found them...
Chris here - Yeah, if Jeff and I hang out and rip some stadium club, it's for the fun of it and to see the images. Not for the autos of no named rookies who are back in AA.
I also picked up that Chourio ASG card this past week. Looks great and they are too cheap compared to Merrill’s ASG cards. or they are properly priced and Merrill’s are too expensive. lol
Great show fellas. I bought 4 custom rated rc Patrick Mahomes cards about 2 yrs ago. It's a sweet card , I think it looks better than his real rc cards. Super cheap card. Thanks have a great week
This made me a bigger fan of KAT genuinely good dude and also yea this was every where I’m in a small town in West Virginia and our only 2 lcs both participated no athletes tho quite yet 😂😅
It's totally okay to "overpay" for something that you just want for yourself. Not everything has to be an investment. It's okay to just collect. You're not "losing" if you're enjoying yourself. There's value in that. It's not just about the money.
I love this Podcast.. You guys are so easy to listen to. I'm a big fan of Ty, but I cannot get behind supporting his boss. I'd love to hear Ty's side of things when it comes to him. The guy is shady AF.
I know a very different Geoff than the showman from SCI videos, and definitively different than the one portrayed by his biggest online calumniators. Geoff gives a ton to kids, never passes on a charity to contribute to, and has been fantastic to work for over the last four years. He and I dont agree on everything at all times, but that’s okay. And he respects my opinions and listens. Any person who is in a spotlight ends up with visceral hatred from people who dont really know him. It just happens. Geoff is an entertainer, a shrewd businessman, a strong critical thinker, a loyal husband and a devoted father.
@@t-pott4504 Thanks for the response. I appreciate that you took the time to reply. I agree with those in the spotlight. We love to build someone up so we can just tear them down. I respect your opinion and thoughts on the matter.
Honestly, it's up to the shop owmers to develop relationships off camera with the sports players to get them to come to the shop. These players' first priority is their image, safety, and personal happiness. Not promoting the industry. If I didn't watch your video I would not have known that KAT was at Burbank. But I knew CC2 and Cards HQ had players signing at their events. Building that trust is important because you can tell them that they don't have to be on camera like an animal at the zoo or be a guest on a podcast episode they cannot control from an image standpoint. Develop the relationship with the players and their family now and you may get the pay off in five years.
@SpitballinCards heard it on a RUclips video. He said today would be pre-sale date for Topps Update about a month ago. Hopefully his source stays accurate.
@SpitballinCards It was the post of Tom brady in a shop, and they said "That is so awesome! Unfortunately, my LCS is in Boise, Idaho and Topps would never send anyone here." It was on the shops Facebook acount🤣
Those cards look really nice. Chris here - IMO, as more and more product comes out featuring more and more Chourio rookies, insert cards like these Radiating rookies will continue to drop in value. Just my opinion.
Watching this video on Sept 29th. I'm not at all declaring the hobby dead...however we may look back and realize that this year's national was a peak. And all the talk about finding bigger and bigger venues somewhat overblown. Fanatics Live is making little in roads. Live breaks while fairly strong is losing steam. Content creators/flippers/dealers are vanishing. What most people don't seem to understand or ignore at their peril is collectors are born not made. From rare art, to coins, Barbie dolls, and whatever else, collectors find the hobby not the other way around. Sure some amount of pr, publicity and events foster enthusiasm, but the vast majority of us who spend hours or more per week watching content, going to shows, buying and selling, and participating in or watching live breaks: nearly all of us were collectors and hobbyists early in our life. Quite frankly it is this point in particular that is why I don't think Rubin/Fanatics will not be successful. Unlike his other endeavors, he lacks the sensibilities and the mindset to foster hobby growth. He doesn't have the skillset. Again, I don't think the hobby is dead by any stretch but this cycle has peaked and there will be change.
Fanatics/topps is deff pushing experiences and athletes over cards. Fanatics Fest now Rip Night. I understand fanatics owns Topps but it’s still Topps. First 2 rip nights were so much better then this past rip night in regards to actual cards. Topps offered shops a nice amount/selection of product for cheap to sell to customers. This rip night was horrible to the boxes offered to shops. Instead they focused on the athletes. The athletes weren’t there to sign anything. Just to open/trade cards to kids.
Chris here - I have to say that what I saw in Burbank was very different than what you've described. However, I also know that not all shops will have the same experiences. I'm sorry yours wasn't as positive.
KAT may have asked to go to Burbank since he already understands how important they are to the hobby and he could also go to one of the studios down the street. Disney / ABC, Comcast / NBC Universal, and Warner Bros Discovery are too far from Burbank.
Esoteric fact: the second Anonymous fellowship started after AA is not Narcotics Anonymous but Gamblers Anonymous. Sports betting has the potential to ruin society. I watch live breaks and the biggest chat topic including the host doing the breaks is sports betting. Bar none.
Love this show, but the market capitalization of just the S&P500 is 45 trillion. Even if 119.8 billion is correct, that’s .0035% of the market capitalization of just the S&P500. Not saying gambling is good or not a problem for people. But the relative impact is minuscule.
The addition of showing your cheaper pick ups the big ones are great but seeing the smaller ones is just great to see.
