Never heard of her. Going to check her out. But her saying the car accident was the best thing to ever happen to her so she could get out of a record deal is very scary. How evil is America's music industry?
I feel like Hideaway could have been released today and still sound fresh.. especially with all the house inspired tracks by Ariana, Beyonce, Dua and many more.
100%. She was definitely ahead of the time with her sound. Despite hideaway being such a big track, i dont think the general public was really ready yet to appreciate that 90s house and b throwback sound she had on a deep lasting level.
This was during the EDM boom in the EU. Over here it gained huge traction. It also helped that In this time there was a lot house/techno influence in the mainstream EDM here. Her hit was quirky and different but not so different that I couldn’t be mainstream over here.
She's actually just started releasing a new dance album! The first song coincidentally came out around the same day this video came out! www.youtube.com/@Kiesza/videos
I love kiesza omg. Her music is so underrated. I saw her live in 2015 at this teeny little venue and let me tell you girly can put on a SHOW with no budget. Just with her vocals, sheer energy, and damn the girl can DANCE. I knew it was never going to happen, but kiesza really deserved to be a star. Her stage presence is unmatched. She made this tiny little theater feel like an arena.
Lol, you knew it would never happen? While I agree we have to face reality with certain artists, I still don’t tell myself it’ll never happen for them…
@@erikm8372 lol im being a bit hyperbolic when i say that. Cuz never say never ive been surprised by some artists that have blown up out of the blue. But also im just not really that invested in any of my faves going on to have mainstream success. I just want them to get their coins make their music have their little fanbase. But i do feel like sometimes you just know someone aint gonna have lasting mainstream pop success barring some strange fluke or glitch in the matrix. Kiesza was always one of those artists for me. Like she is most definitely that girl, but i just couldnt see a reality where the general public was going hard for her after hideaway
I met KIESZA at a Lindsey Sterling concert in Vail. I saw her walking amongst the crowd after the show, I called her name and we talked. I thanked her for Hideaway because it was a song that got me through finals in high school. She was super chill and sweet. We have each other hugs. She’s an AMAZING performer. Seriously incredible, such a natural. Her song Dying For You is so good too. Y’all gotta check her out.
This song was ENORMOUS in the UK. Every radio station in 2014/15 had it on constant rotation and it was one of the rate hits that did not get on my nerves
‘Hideaway’ was like the “sound of summer” for me and many others, not only the year it was released but in 2015, 2016 & 2017 too. And this is in SoCal! Good memories!
@@matteu49 I remember her releasing it around the time the Covid restrictions started to let up, and it was the perfect song to listen to while getting my life back to normal!
“Taking me higher than I ever did before” was such an iconic opening. The song reminds me of the summer I became homeless. I was living in my year 99 car and trying to save money to move back to Italy. While the times weren’t good they also weren’t bad.
Oh Nostalgia hits, Hideaway was unescapeable in 2014, it was such a fun dance track and the music video is pretty iconic , I remember when we were singing the song during music class in 8th grade 😂
I seen her live once in London, on. Not only is she a fantastic singer but she’s also a DANCER. I love her and continue to root for her, Canada has alot of hidden gems
some parts of this story sound eerily similar to Raye’s story, where her old record label refused to let her release her debut album for the 7 years she was with them
I remember her and immediately clicked this video. I have a friend who I went to HS with, he always has the best taste in music imo, he gave me her album. It’s crazy to hear about her now and know that was a decade ago. Life comes at you fast.
Hideaway is such a bop. Her new single Heaven Ain't Calling is really good to. And love you with your lie also deserved to be a hit or run renegade. Maybe that dance music is making a comeback she will get another hit. So far she's a one hit wonder. Idk if you have heard brushed by a light wave that's really good to one of her EDM collabs
How do you always see into our collective nostalgia mind and pull out artists like this. Bc as soon as the thumbnail popped up so many memories came flooding back
She had a really great song that came out right before Covid called “All of the Feelings” and I legit thought she was a newcomer at that time, I had no idea she had a hit in 2014
Her song was so iconic during the swag era. Man, You HAD TO BE THERE! I remember living in Taipei when that song dropped, we played that outtttt! Such a pivotal song to my grad school era ✨🫶🏽💕
i feel like people don't get the brilliance of this song. Mind you, it was completely off-brand for singers in 2013/2014 to release 90s deep house inspired tracks. At that time dance music was more about progressive house, edm with folktronica elements and tropical house, not this "retro" sound of the 90s, which is everywhere nowadays.
She was on Slushii's new album, song called Carousel. I was surprised she went on to be on a dubstep/EDM track but knowing this about her career since Hideaway, it makes more sense
I actively search out Kiesza singing as a featured artist on other people's music just to hear her voice. Her House music moment was my favorite of her styles.
Bridged by a light wave which she featured on with fellow Canadian Deadmau5 is one of my favourite songs. Released in 2021 I still listen to it regularly
Never stopped listening to Kiesza's music ever since Hideaway! The amount of great music she's made is huge and still putting out! Half of her music are worth being on the top 5, but she's practically indie now! Not to mention all of her amazing collab songs, there's so many, with other artists, and very very good ones too or her amazing exclusive shows, like the christmass train, that was travelling in different locations, stopping for a concert and then following for the next destination and many more stuff, or the awards she won at the Juno show, and the amazing performance she had there! So many stuff! I feel ashamed people know her only for Hideaway, because there's so much more that has happened since then!
I found so many of my favorite artists and tracks just by listening to Annie Mac’s Friday show (which Danny Howard does a good job since he took over). Hideaway is what I remember from the first show I listened to back in 2014 along with “Liberate” by Eric Prydz. Good times.
Her song "All of my feelings" that she released at the height of the lockdown in 2020 was an absolute bop that i kept playing for months! Still hoping that eventually that track gets a resurgence and its just due.
I first heard of Kieza after watching the movie "Home" with Rihanna and JLo. She did a beautiful song called "Cannonball" for the movie and I had to check out her other music. Hideaway showcase her voice in a different way than Cannonball did and I was super excited to follow her career. A part of me wished she had greater success but as an amateur songwriter, creating music you're passionate about is an amazing feeling, whether or not everyone likes it.

It's such a shame cause I really liked her music. Her 90s house style gave me such nostalgia and is what mainly drew me to her music. I got to see her perform here in Australia at a music festival a few years back and she didn't disappoint
This was my Jam. Taking me back to being a kid and this being popular in England. Hideaway and No Enemiez. I don't like Dilplo or Skrillex but her song with Jackü was good.
A singer can ride off one big hit for a very long time and sustain a career out of it if they stay dedicated to the profession. Most one hit wonders usually take an extended hiatus period once the spotlight fades but can continue to book smaller local gigs until enough time has passed before nostalgia kicks in then they start getting offered more lucrative gigs on the retro festival circuit and back up the ladder they can go. A current trend for faded pop stars is to turn to djing to keep themselves in the public eye if the singing gigs are drying up.

Right? Jesus.
It's not just America, lmao
she was everywhere in 2014...
A better question: what gets in the way of us not having to depend on them?
More evil than you could imagine. Research monarch mind control. The information is available, but most would rather pretend all is fine
