    Wind and water temp are very important. Usually the determining factor in my initial bait choice. Warmer/swimbait or colder/surface & glide. Very few bluff walls, so I use weed edges much the same way. Bumping and ripping for reaction strikes. Vermilion is very rocky lake with L&S bass, Pike & Muskies. So I tend to use the wind and slow roll a swimbait, bumping rocky points, saddles, pinch points - any kind of ambush structure.

    Cool video on glides!! 👍🏼 That’s why crankbaits are so effective….bass usually strike them when the lure “deflects” (abruptly changes its course) off/through something, be it a stump, rock, grass, wall, etc….should be no different for a larger bait as a glide bait. Question for you, Geoff or Manny: is adding scent frowned upon when using glides and larger swimbaits, or does it actually make a difference getting a bass to strike these types of lures?

    • @crazybassfisher
      @crazybassfisher  2 года назад +2

      Thanks for watching! I only ever use scent on soft baits and I only use it to lube up the bait so when the fish bite it, they can feel what they think is slime. Other than that, scent is never really used, scent can damage certain baits and their paints on glides

    Would love to hear your experience with Bass and Carp. Seems Carp are far more abundant in most lakes, they obviously eat them but is it a main forage? Are they aggressive towards them when bigger? There are a lot of Carp swimbaits out there.

    • @crazybassfisher
      @crazybassfisher  2 года назад +1

      The common conception about bass and carp is that the bass love eating the smaller carp, I personally have never seen a smaller carp but I also have never seen a bass eat or chase a baby carp, it’s honestly a mystery but we just assume for most of it

    I live in southern Wi. Some shad in bigger bodies of water here but otherwise its all gills, shiner, and carp. Any tips on bait size? Ive tried 250's, some success on the 175, nothing on bull shooters. All of my bites that got me into this were on a 4" Cabelas 3d bluegill swimbait when I was younger. Should I drop to that size for the majority of my baits or keep messing with 5-7" baits? Another thing is how do you guys stomach casting something the price of a 250 or greater. I've used them around wood and rock piles but I can't afford to lose something like that lol. Another thing is fishing for smallmouth vs largemouth. I can't seem to catch a largemouth bigger than 14" in any body of water around here. We have ponds with 8-10s in them and I've barely had followers. Smallies on the other hand eat whatever bait I put around them under 7". What do I do to catch largemouth around here?

    So I hear there's no trout stockings at Canyon,Saguaro, Apache this year. Do you think they'll still hit trout glides if there's no trout?

    • @crazybassfisher
      @crazybassfisher  2 года назад +1

      Yeah, no trout stockings this year, they will still eat a trout glide, but it will most likely slow down later on in the season when the fish start to realize that there isn’t any trout in the water and they start to key in on different forage.

    I have this crystal clear pond by my house filled with straight up donkeys. But quite literally has maybe 1 or two pieces of cover. So where do I cast then. If there’s no cover or structure.

    • @Gavin4930
      @Gavin4930 2 года назад

      And 3/4 of the year it is completely covered in hydrilla. So the only time I can throw glides is late fall and winter. Grass is the only cover and the only time I can throw a glide is when the grass is gone

    • @crazybassfisher
      @crazybassfisher  2 года назад +2

      When it came to fishing ponds with a lot of grass, I tried finding the most open lanes to throw the bait down, always keeping it pretty high in the water column to work above the grass. Try watching how the fish will feed on the main forage and try and replicate that with a glide. When the grass is gone, try fishing the glide basically on the surface out in the middle and the commotion will normally draw the fish up to the surface and there, they will feel more inclined to hit the bait since the surface becomes a pin spot.

    • @Gavin4930
      @Gavin4930 2 года назад

      @@crazybassfisher I’ll definitely try throwing out in the open. But when summer comes around there are zero lanes. Just a couple pockets. Across the entire thing. It’s kinda insane. Frogs and punching the pockets is the only thing that works in the summer

    Big mental money 💵 💴💵 guys! What’s your opinion on pinning to the bottom vs pinning to the surface? Any suggestions for lake vermilion, mn Jeff? Thanks for sharing!

    • @crazybassfisher
      @crazybassfisher  2 года назад

      Both pinning baits to the bottom and the top of the water are both really important. For me, it depends on the fish behavior as well as water temp. Sometimes the fish want a soft bait on the bottom and sometimes they want that glide high, always changing and trying to adapt to the fish.

      Fishing for muskie I assume? I don’t know much but learning to find main lake islands that are under the water with good wind seemed crucial to catching fish. Big lake to cover but I’m no expert on that lake haha

    Love your videos Geoffrey. Always great. Last year I caught multiple fish and multiple followers just about every trip on glides. But for some reason, this year I’m getting no followers and barely any bites. Tons on wakes, but I don’t know what I changed when it comes to glides. Especially in the fall. I swear the bite is so tough in the fall with glides here in MA. Everyone always talks about the fall being best for glides. I kill them on jerkbaits and keitechs, just not glides.

    • @crazybassfisher
      @crazybassfisher  2 года назад

      I have had the same response in a couple different places. I truly felt that the fish became wise to the glide pretty quickly. A glide bait isn’t very natural in movement which can become distinct to a fish if shown many of times. After I noticed my particular fish didn’t eat or even follow the glide anymore, I switched to a multi piece bait or rat/wake bait and started catching fish again. A lot of times, the glide will shine for a brief moment, then die off, then start back up. It goes in waves. Try different retrieve speeds and cadences and see if they just bite the lure.
