Hey Captain, a paint roller tip,
Use a cheap lint roller tape on your paint roller before dipping it in paint
This will remove all those little loose fibers that show up in your paint job.

My suggestion is use a solo cup and old speaker magnet in the bottom that way you can collect the metal and pull the magnet out and the shavings on the bottom of the cup fall off.

The easiest way to put the floor liner in is to set it out in the sun for an hour or two to soften it up and make it easier to put where you want it.
When you want to make sure you use a respiratory protection device, is vhen using anything with a VOC 0:04 welding. Stick is the worst for fumes! I use Nason wax and silicone remover (known as " final wipe"), and blue shop towels for paint prep after at least a 400 grit sanding. I mix and spray my own paint with a HVLP sprayer. I have a full face mask with two CBRN filters on it to spray. One of those half masks for prep and have to order 2XL Nitrile gloves. Acetone is only used for fiberglass repairs here. that's nasty stuff!
I've used a roller to paint "woods trucks" with bed liner up to the side mirrors. Lol Doesn't look great, but no scratches or rust after much abuse, works for a function over form guy.
I would do the whole bed in an out with quality bedliner.
My best investment, watch local hardware stores or carpet &paint shops getting rid of a paint shaker!
I got a double gallon shaker for $125 and I use it from rattlecans to $300 quarts of paint.... best money I ever spent!

I like your methodical method! Every step has a reason. In the end, that will indeed save you a lot of time. On your pants: We have a Goodwill-like store over here in east-central Ohio, called "Brouse and Buy." I can buy a pair of pants for $0.39. That's not an error. Everytime the wife goes there, she looks for my size. So, when I mess'm up - I just turn'm into shop rags. Heavy shirts are also $0.39. In the winter months I wear long sleeve, the summer months just a t-shirt. Great video! Thanks Mike! Lee

Compared to what you started with, this truck is going to be a jewel. Hopefully it gives you years of service and enjoyment of building it yourself. And put the floor mat in the sun as soon as possible to let it relax and become more pliable for installation. Another thing is if it is cool outside the rubber Matt will stretch in the summer and be lumpy. Try to get it about a little above warm to the touch before installing and get the seat and seat belt in first then the door trim so it will be straight for you. Hope this helps Mike and great job again.

I have a 94 F250 and a 97 F550 superduty. Both carry the same sheetmetal. Both have 460s. Do think strongly about using both fuel tanks. 460s love gas. You will thank yourself later.
460s are notorious for breaking exhaust manifold bolts in the heads and flanges.
You can tell if an old Ford has a 460 if....
.1. It has a massive exhaust leak.
    .2. It's at a gas station.
Along with my 92 Ranger they have been the most reliable trucks I have ever owned.
Looking forward to your next video!
    Cheers

    Good afternoon, Captain,
A recommendation for pants would be Deluth Trading Company's fire hose flex pants. These pants last forever, I'm still working in ones that are six years old. They are very comfortable as well as durable. They do cost a bit, but if you watch for sales, you can pick them up at a fair price. I love the truck build.

Duluth Flex Ultimate Cargo work pants are comfy and durable. I get 2 to 3 years out of them in the electrical trade. They don’t have flaps on the back pockets either like so many cargo pants do. They’re just like Jean pockets which is my preference. The leg pockets have flaps but you can tuck them in and there’s a Velcro strip to hold them in place so they’re not annoying. There’s also a pencil/sharpie pocket on each leg, and two narrow pockets. One deeper and one shallower. Great for carry a few hand tools

That “carpet” is called jute. It is good for sound deadening and heat/cold insulation BUT if you think it’s going to get wet as in submerged don’t put it in. As an upholsterer I would use it but don’t glue it down. The seat will pinch it in place between the floor and the top matting. Plus if you put the vinyl floor out in the sun for a little bit it will be easier to get it to lay flat inside the cab and easier to work with

I salvaged a magnet from a non-working microwave oven - they're very strong. I set it inside a 4"x 4"x 4" plastic potato salad container. Pass the container over anything steel, then hold the container over the trash can, and lift up just the magnet. All the steel then just drops into the trash.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, ideas and videos. Truck is looking great. Glad your starting to do something about your lung health. You might think about getting one of the powered units that filters and then blows fresh air into the area around your face. Positive pressure around your face. They make some nice ones for carpenters to avoid wood dust and stay cool and comfortable. The only warning I did read one time was to avoid eating foods that give you gas if your rig has a belt hung compressor. Really sucks when you gas yourself. Wishing you and your family the best.

With all that overlap on that Killmat you could have finished that engine firewall, suggest still doing that while the doing's good, stop it before it hits the metal is best. Truck looking great bro!

    Mike... 2 points:
    - I've recently begun buying used military uniform pants... very comfy to me, utilitarian, and cheap ($50/pr for Carhartt/Milwaukee/etc. Works well in our backwoods locale and I don't cry when they get ripped, stained, painted, or burned...
    - I purchased an Evolution magnetic wand specifically to remove "swarf" (steel/iron giblets from drilling/milling)... just move it around your workbench, hold it over the trash can, pull the plunger/magnet up and the bits all fall off (also works well for collecting spilled screws/nails). It was bit spendy compared to other options ($10 more), but works great!

    • @Artiken1
      @Artiken1 2 месяца назад

I use a magnet from an old DC motor, Place it in a plastic bag (ziplock type). Wave it over the bench/floor. The swarf is on the plastic bag. Open the bag. Remove Magnet. Swarf falls into trash. Speaker magnets also work well for this. I leave the magnet in a bag stuck to my grinder. I'm just cheap.

I would have held off putting the core support in , and put a real primer on it and then painted it .
But mostly to make the engine install less of a PIA .

YOU DON'T NEED TO TAKE THE GLASS OUT. IT'S CALLED TAPE AND IF YA DO IT RIGHT, YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO TELL. Also it's a budget build. Personally I rather have it running on the road instead on jack stands for 10 years while everyone else is rippin n runnin 👍👍

It was mentioned before, but its worth mentioning again, wrapping rollers in painters tape and then peeling it off pulls most of the loose fibers out/off. Rinse and repeat until little to no fibers come off. I found its the key to making cheap roller covers work almost like expensive ones!

good stuff, wrap the roller with tape it should remove the lint.
I use rollers for primer on projects, reduced correctly and with a decent application it lays out nice before I sand it..
not sure I get the sound deadening on a property truck, but good job none the less...

I've tried a bunch of brands and styles and I really like Truewerk T2 pants. They hold up great for me and are very comfortable and a bit stretchy for crawling around under a truck or backhoe.

Carhartt work cargo pants were great for me when i was working with Spectrum Communications. Sometimes I just go the cheap wrangler jeans from walmart route as well. i mean you can get like 4 pairs of wranglers for 1 pair of carhartt LOL

Car-hart pants are the best work pants by far, I use them when I weld, and mechanic, and operate equipment.

When all else fails grab the BFH.
Also grab it if it’s closer than the one you actually want and are too “busy” to get up and get it.

That multi-colored mostly grey stuff you called carpet was actually more sound deadening material.

I'm aware...it's a carpet material...hints why I call it carpet. It's hold moisture like a sponge between the final floor and the floor pan

Ahhh, using the yellow handled “persuader” again. That tool is becoming very useful.
