Looking good sir, good thing you have that guy talking you thru the process, otherwise you might really mess things up 😮😊. Good decision on the drive shaft situation, looks like the glide coating ( the blue stuff on the splines) on the midship burg spline stub shaft is pretty well gone, if you experience excessive drive line vibration in the drive train, that would be a good place to look. Thanks for the update, appreciate you and the videos.

Most of the parts we make are the reinforcement pieces or the ones that are not in plain sight unless you look under the hood or vehicle itself.

Hi Mike. Good progress on the dump truck! I've been using flux core on my project too. It's about $500 for a bottle of 75/25 argon/co2 in my area and I'm working outside, like you are. If I already had the bottle, it would be cheaper, but I don't. I find it works pretty well, although some people don't like it. It does run hotter than MIG, partly because the flux core isn't available in a size smaller than .030". I've been using this brand and I like how it works: PGN Flux Core Welding Wire - E71T-11. It is dirtier too, but my welds are far from perfect, and the old death wheel cleans them up pretty well.

Hey Mike, I watch Make it Kustom and Carl uses his term for eye balling: he uses his eyechrometer. I watch for Chanel’s and see people using their battery tool to knock things into place but they are not built to be a hammer…. So use a hammer and save your tools. I mean that from a caring perspective. Again, problem solving on the fly, simply enjoyable to see with all the slip ups because you’re human. Just loved that comment:”crossthreading is natures locktite.” You come up with some good ones. Getting closer to where you want it to be. Just can’t wait to see how you tackle the tray.

Outside like that, flux core is pretty good Mike. You could find more than one application of the weld is required after cleanup? End resultis good sound metal deposit and reasonable attachment. Gas shield when puffed away by wind can be completely useless in contrast to flux core. Welding (exhaust) pipe you need a still environment for inert gas welding. Preferably fill the tube with CO2 or Argon. Something inert. The driveshaft is fine too Mike. If its too long it ill only pop out the welsh plug in the yoke. When weight first comes onto cart springs (semi-eliptic leaf springs) they extend pulling the axle rearward. Ask your driveshaft shoppe about what I'm saying here? It is a good fit. If it pushes the plug out which it wont you can fix it by removing half an inch of the male spline with your cut off disc in the angle grinder!
