This old truck is one of my favorites you've ever had on the channel. I love it when a rig shows how hard folks have worked to keep it going, and this one is hodge podged together so much it's almost comical. That said, I'd keep it around just because it's a long bed stepside. I also love that it's basically a continuation of the Lumborghini saga! Makes a fitting end, and brings some much needed positivity to that trainwreck.

I worked at a plumbing company in the 1990's that had a 26,000 mile old 1976 1 ton GMC dually -complete with service bed with a 292 Straight six - with automatic. Some older plumber had purchased when he retired and didn't drive it much to say the least. I found out why, to say it was slow would be an understatement. I still remember merging onto I-465 in Indianapolis, you would hit the gas as soon as I turned, hoping by the end of the merge lane I was within - 20 to traffic speed.

I've got a '70 step-side long bed C10, inline 6 with Sniper EFI, lump port kit, 1.95/1.60 valves, long tube headers, three on the tree, and not a speck of rust on it. The exhaust is turned out in front of the left rear wheel, and it's LOUD. It's not cool loud, it's obnoxious loud. Sounds nice when it's idling, but you get it up to 2000 RPM and it drones and you need earplugs. I really need to get around to fixing that. It needs a new speaker for the AM radio to make it complete, and a bit more aggressive cam to take advantage of the lump kit and oversize valves.

My brother owned this exact truck, a 1979 he got in 1982, except a 305 and automatic, and had a paint-matching topper on it. First vehicle I ever drove. He took me to get my permit, and on the way home, he pulled over and said "you drive." So, I drove the last few miles home. We had some great adventures in that truck. I love that truck! I know exactly that "two stick" shifting. We had a '71 International truck, 258 6 cyl/ 3 on the tree. The column shifter broke, so we put a length of oilfield sucker rod on each shift lever, ran them through the floor, and put a fooseball on the end of each of them - for safety, and ran like that for ever. Exhaust fumes came up through the floor, though, and we never fixed that. A poor man has poor ways!

Ylou know, we just got done getting ready for the busiest holiday of the year, and when the kids and grands went home, we were exhausted. It occurred to me that Derek lives that kind of pace year around. Mad respect for the man and his family, and we are all grateful for this amazing content and entertainment. Happy new year to the Bieri family and wishing you safe travels and continued success!

One thing I always love about this guy is that you can tell loves America. The opening story about a bunch of fellas palling up just to help is exactly what rural America is like.
It's such a breath of fresh air. On the internet everyone is so damn negative even though we have it way better than 99% of our ancestors ever did.

Grew up in southwest Iowa. Farmer’s at that time( 1960s) liked a workhorse truck that was a plain Jane. Like that Chevy. Old Gentleman told once. The more stuff on them the more there is to go wrong. Simple, don’t see that today. Fancy Rigs. Big Bucks. Thanks Derek, great stuff!

I love this channel because of how real it is. If a rig like the Lumberghini fails, then that's the episode and we'll face it next time. Get another old rig and drive it home - awesome! As always, I'm looking forward to the next episode.

Matter of fact just 2 days ago I got my grandmas 57' Chevy bel air on the road after sitting 5+ years! And as of today I've put 60 miles on it. Just wanted to say your vids are great and thank you for the inspiration VGG!

I felt bad for you when you broke down . This truck looks great . A guy that lived up the road from me had a truck like this . After he got killed in a mining accident it sat across from his dads house in a field for many years . Finally after his dad died it was sold . That truck was probably about the same condition as yours . Before Clair was killed it was in very good condition .

VGG, it's always good to see your videos stir up memories for folks. So many comments like, "My grandpa had one of those" or "Dad taught me how to shift a 4 speed in one of those. The videos refresh my memories of our old farm trucks. Still have the 1966 F100 that Dad bought new. Thanks for helping us relive the good old days !

You can lock that transmission into 1st and 3rd gear at the same time for added security when you park! Works even better when you have the original three in the tree shifter and the linkage is loose.

Congrats, you finally broke the streak---you made it home in a rig! It was starting to seem like you had a curse on you lol I've owned two C10's with the 250/3 speed manual combo---the reliability of both of those trucks was mind-blowing. They just never broke. But what to do with it? She's pretty rotted....I think I'd flip this one

Good Lord Willin' ... we will all be seein' this high quality grain farm-raised and highly valued American Brother and His Family, for many many years to come. Every video is like a Christmas morning with little-ones opening presents with little-ones ... just pure precious magic and joy to see what Santa brings to purest chaos!! God Bless all who support and help brother D on his adventures, and especially those who step up and bring him safe home. God Bless Jess and the boys who support him, each and every time he's on the road. And ... God Bless all who along the troubled path support his work and frankly, his Ministry, which enriches us all. From ... a broken old screw jack ... 42-Jack, to be precise ... I pray the Good Lord is with all in these less than perfect times.

Please be safe!

I would keep the 6 cylinder myself. Only thing I would do to it is find a conventional head before the rebuild. The integrated head is nictorius for cracking when taking them off of the block.

Big Kudos to the folks who helped out, loaded and hauled the Lumberghini back to the shop and also to Volunteer for lending their talents in making the exhaust safer for Derek to make it home, the truck was a lucky find, had a Chevy Nova once with the 250 engine, ran all right, not a tire burner, but decently reliable, eventually traded it for a retired cop car, good upgrade. Wanna see more of that truck though, tires, engine swap, another budget build, Thanks again to Derek for the new content and looking forward to many more shows.
