Captain; Step #1=Do whatever the Admiral says to do, beginning with "Yes Dear", Step #2, Acknowledge the Elephant In The Room (a huge Stump in this case, and by acknowledging the problem you are on your way to a positive recovery), Step #3, Deal with whatever life throws your way (e.g. tires and blown hoses without blowing a head gasket), Step #4=Eat the elephant, one bite at a time, Step#5=A Three Pointer For The Win (perseverance, hard work and intestinal fortitude will get ya there)!! Mike, may y'all continue to be abundantly blessed and thanks for taking us along. John here, from the back-roads of Northeastern Tennessee.

    Good day
I had a Ford 555 two wheel drive in the past and I added rear tire chains and it made a huge difference in the traction.
Just plain tire chains, nothing too aggressive because they have to clear the out riggers. It will be worth the money investment.
    Keep the videos coming!

I remember my father digging a similar sized oak stump with the old Case W3 back in the late 70s.. it was also on a hillside, but sandy soil of Tidewater VA.. took him 3 weekends to get it out...the hole was big enough to bury the machine in!

That there is a big stump!
Watching you pick away at it is a real good comparison between using a fairly small machine (555) and say DP's 120. The Triple Nickel will definitely get the job done, but it's a lot like digging a hole with a spoon versus a shovel. Both will certainly get the job done, but one is going to take a bit longer.😂
I love your optimism as you stand in an 8 foot hole.👌
The run whatcha brung is still gettin er done!🤙

One of the best things about your channel is seeing identical struggles to those I have, and knowing at least, I'm not the only one. I also get to see someone else explore the riddle of "which is stronger, the hydraulics, the stump, or the main bucket pin?" (Spolier alert, I've got a two hour plus round trip to purchase a bucket pin to replace one now shaped roughly like a banana.) 😁 Thanks for the video, take care!

Hi Mike. I can tell you from experience that a backhoe is much better than a shovel. Many years ago, I spent the better part of a summer working to remove a stump that was somewhat smaller than yours with just hand tools. It was not fun at all. That one might have a really big tap root going straight down. You'll get her, the 555 will pull through!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, ideas and videos. Interesting and entertaining as always. Sorry I didn’t warn you about the tire, I was listening while fixing breakfast. I backed the video up and tried to warn you but you just ignored me. Your slip calling the backhoe a dozer and correcting yourself reminded me of a pet peeve. Don’t you just hate when a self exclaimed expert calls every piece of equipment that works in the dirt a dozer. So far I think about the only thing I haven’t seen called a dozer is a roller, I’m still waiting, I’m confident it’ll happen eventually. Was half expecting to see you make one of the Timbers into a pulling lever like farmers used to use with teams of horses. That’s about the only thing you haven’t tried besides a pressure washer with a turbo tip. Looking forward to seeing your continued adventures, wishing you and your family the best.
Ps I always liked the Sawzall Axe blades for dirt work.

Mike, if you only would have finished the RUclips Yacht, you could have turned on the engines, paddle wheel at maximum speed and easily pulled out that stump out! 😂😂 Of course, maybe you should leave the stump and tie the RUclips Yacht off with it! 😂😂 Figures, just when you start going, a hose always breaks! Time to chisel some stuff off the stump to lighten the load! What a fun project! 😁😁
BTW: Where is the stump pulled you used on the other side of the wooden bridge? A little extra pull may help!

I grubbed out a dead ash tree last week with my OC46 track loader. It wasn't nearly the size of that stump, but I hit a 6 inch tape root that didn't want to give up. I would have never gotten it out with just the smooth edge on the bucket, but I had my Piranha tooth bar(not a sponsor ;) ) on and ended up cutting it in two with that. It's been a great add on for clearing small trees and brush.

Well I have to tell you I went back and watched all the Yacht videos this past weekend to bring me up to speed. I really understand the process of building and working by one self. Yes it would go much faster if ya had help but one becomes a much better mechanic by working by yourself, it keeps that brain pan working out those struggles. I have to say you are one heck of a trade mechanic. Some will not understand what that is, they are the ones asking why so many screws and wood.
I do have a question I have not heard you address about the build, that is will you have some type of heat source in the building for late fall early spring??

I put a quick disconnect on all my equipment's negative battery terminals. I also use a 8x16" solar panel on each piece of equipment. My 6 ton excavator sat all winter, and the battery was at 12.7 volts this spring and started right up. The disconnect gets rid of parasitic draws that all machines seem to have. I have the kind that attach to the negative terminal, and you just turn the knob to disconnect it. They sell them on Amazon and also auto stores.
