    The trend is that AEW is down 24% in ratings compared to last year, and 30% in attendance year over year. If your company is 75% of the popularity it was 12 months ago, you should be worried. Its a much steeper drop than cable as a whole, and gives WBD more power to argue AEW can't pretend they will get you 1m viewers, instead they can only get you 700k viewers on average. That means you offer them 30% less money, and that could mean AEW will not be profitable for another 5 years, which could lead to budget cuts, talent leaving and etc. This week doesn't matter, its just a trend that's been going for a year now, which is super concerning

    “We shouldn’t worry about a one week rating. You should look at trends.” Well then what’s the trend for Dynamite?

      Down 24% Year over year in ratings, down 30% in attendance year over year. Its real bad

      @@CSwizzy69 They dont want to anger their AEW loving audience, but Pollock should know all of this, they are literally partners with Wrestlenomics who detail these every freaking week. AEW is suffering big. I don't think they are going out of business, but the impact on their TV deal is for sure real, that's why they are nearing exiting exclusivity with WBD, cause they aren't getting the money they need to be profitable

      That AEW has still yet to make a profit and on top of that their ratings are sinking faster than the Titanic.

    i love how everyone brought up the big bang lead in being the reason for the decrease - as if that doesn't just confirm that the 700,000 average number is being artificially inflated by having a 1 million plus audience lead in that tune out as the show goes on.

    AEW loyalists since day 1 are starting to get sick of Tony Khan slowly over time. Me being one of them. The direction he is taking the company and his attitude on social media has been a major turn off. The honeymoon phase lasted 2 1/2 years, and having these weird injections of matches we never had or barely had any of from 2019 to 2021, like title eliminator matches, countless open challenges are done every single month for the last two years! On top of that, the on again off again usage of the rankings system isn't cutting it any more.
    The biggest issue is since Collisions inception, there has been very little continuity between Dynamite and that show. You'd think we'd get cliffhangers that should lead to Collision and have the same thing happen roll over to next weeks Dynamite episode. But it doesn't even happen other than a mention and a video package that shows what happened.
    Instead we're getting stuff that happens on Dynamite only to wait 1 whole week to the next weeks Dynamite for continuation of events to unfold, same for Collision. TK has brought in writers over two months ago, and nothing has changed. There are more negatives than positives, positives mostly being the character work improvement or change of gimmick on some of the talent that needed it but thats about it. Another big problem, is the local advertising for their shows. There is very little to almost non existing. WWE events, have tons of ad's and commercials on tv and radio, sometimes so much it's nausiating. But, it is working for them. AEW is the exact opposite.
    Thank you guys for your analysis each and every week for all these years, POST WRESTLING is my jam for wrestling coverage.

    The consistency of the show certainly dipped back end of 2023 and early 2024, combined with a lot of negative backstage stories and I think it's lead to viewers slowly drifting away. There was too much negative word of mouth.
    The shows been really good for a bit now IMO, but that isn't going to instantly be seen in ratings.
    Like I don't think there is anything about this weeks show they shouldn't have done or should not do again. It was a great show. Well received by the fans and talking heads that watched it. Just keep putting out shows like that, stick to your long term story plans, don't panic or hotshot. And hope the consistence praise and good word of mouth will start to see an upward trend

      I hated like 3 of the matches on that show because they were meaningless. People just got used to Dynamite being 30% filler and still consider that a "good show" but for people who aren't obsessed with AEW, thats a big 30 minutes a show that I am bored during and can turn off the show

    Wai "just keep providing quality shows for the core audience " that clearly isnt working..... i love how kendrick and everything can be a factor on why its lower ,except the quality of the show itself. You cant fathom the show YOU think is doing great quality wise, isnt great to the mass majority.

    • @Luigitron51
      @Luigitron51 15 дней назад +4

      Yup. Just because YOU think is a quality show doesn't mean everyone else thinks the same. Wrestling is already a niche product and AEW caters to a niche of a niche audience

    • @blablablaa14
      @blablablaa14 15 дней назад +2

      I don't think they've been doing good shows for the core audience either. I honestly think most of their programs are really uninteresting, and part of it is missing all these guys that we want to see on AEW TV which isn't in their control, but a larger part of it is that we as fans no longer believe that AEW is building a crew of young wrestlers that will be the best in the world. And an even larger part is the confusion about people not being on the show (Britt, Hayder, Starks, Keith Lee). Its a really badly booked show

    I've mentioned this elsewhere many times. It can't be a coincidence that at the same time that AEW is down 100k+, NXT is up 100k+. My theory is that people are ditching AEW for NXT. NXT is the real alternative. It's got plenty of POC, it's got plenty of women, it's got a mix of typical WWE matches and more modern indie style matches. Plus it's just more attuned to what is culturally relevant.

    Very good point by John regarding not cramming everything on the ppv. Also too many ppvs. I also think it’s time to retire forbidden door it’s great for the sickos but at the cost of losing fans who don’t follow more than three promotions and don’t want to watch 10+ hours of wrestling a week

    Cm Punk was their only draw and they drove him out. He took about 200 K in viewers. Too many belts, too many wrestlers, too many promotions besides AEW.
    I would cut the TRIOS, one of the mens titles (International) and focus on rebuilding the tag divsion. They were popular when they were an alternative to WWE. They used to have a smaller roster, fewer belts and better stories.

    Has Dynamite ever fallen on a legitimate statutory holiday day? If it only happened on Rampage and Collision, then you can maybe measure the week-to-week decrease there and see if the drop-off from normal to holiday is standard to what we saw. Are there PPV numbers still doing good despite all this and moving up to monthly?

  • @nickt.7305

    Although the viewership is down, being a top 3 show every week is a success. I think the novelty of AEW has worn off, so a few to several hundred thousand viewers should be the new expectation. It’s unreasonable to compare the viewership numbers to those of the WWE. WWE has had a loyal following for decades and conditioned wrestling fans to its particular style with a focus on characters. WWE drew over a million viewers even when the product was poor in recent years because it’s the only wrestling company that many wrestling fans have ever known. AEW focuses more on performances in the ring and there’s not as large of an audience for this type of show. However, being a viable alternative to WWE is quite an accomplishment. It appears that WBD is pleased with AEW as well.
