i really like Graveyard Keeper, even though it's unnecessarily grindy and messes you around with fetch quests a lot. it's more relaxing than Stardew since there's no time pressure i have one of the DLCs, "Stranger Sins", it gives you a lot of cool backstory. and another way to make money
I agree with the grindy part!! The more I play it, the more it gets ridiculous (although I do still like the game). It makes you do legit 15 things before you can do the one original thing you intended, and by the time I’m done with half of those things, I forget what I was ever working towards lol
@@midwest_loner Yeah, that's what I do to. I was excited to play it so I spent like...way too much time on it the first couple of days and it burnt me out hardcore. I like your septum btw.
I bought it and all the dlcs on sale when it first made it to the switch, and oh my god the donkey becoming a communist took me FOREVER to figure out. I'm not sure which dlc it comes from, but constantly feeding it carrots is kind of annoying ngl EDIT: OH MY GOD I DIDN'T REALISE THAT WAS BASE GAME Game of crones is fun though, gives us swamp witch lore
Something I'd recommend for late game is the stone garden. You can meditate to pass time a lot faster than sleeping, but you gain energy slower and it won't save like sleeping, but you continue to meditate and pass time even if you're fully restored. It makes that whole "time to wait a week at a time" part of the game a bit more streamlined if you don't want to just do farming or cooking. The DLCs also would probably fill in the waiting periods nicely but a lot of them came out after I finished the main game so I was able to do them really fast but they're really charming and I would recommend them (especially the tavern one) if you like the base game!
I played this game a long time ago. I absolutely LOVED IT! I got every achievement, finished the whole game. The ending was so sudden, I thought my game crashed! I want more of this game!! Unfortunately, it seems that the devs have moved on to other projects
I couldn't figure out the seed oil for the donkey and got frustrated. Then Tears of the Kingdom came out and I totally forgot about the game. I'm glad I got to see the ending though here.
Every single quest & plot detail is almost excruciatingly frustrating lol. Listening to you explain what you did felt like I was actually going insane 😅 great video as always!
@lissthelass No no, I thought it was great to hear your experience! I know lots of people like this game, but I found it to be very tedious. I was considering going back to play it one day, but watching this made me glad I didn't. It seemed like you still enjoyed it more than I did, but I did feel vindicated hearing you talk about how random all the game logic was. Thank you for being so thorough!
The grriiiinnnddd though. This game has hands down the biggest gap between "knowing what I must do" and "actually doing it" that I've ever played. Like you want thing A and then you grind out thing A and thing A does literally what you expected thing A to do like you knew it would. Then onto thing B and so on. I didn't get the same sense of cascading joy that achieving things in, say, Stardew despite them being pretty much identical. The main difference being the sheer grind to get there. The only defense is that it's "not that bad" but it's still bad. I really regret my time with graveyard keeper despite it seemingly being up several of my alleys. If you don't like repetition and waiting (like there's a guy who visits on Tuesday and you missed him so wait it out till next Tuesday type shit) this game is not remotely for you. I don't even remember half of what I did, aside from dragging logs and incrementally wasting less of a body. There's something to be said for nested systems within systems within systems but this version of that is particularly frustrating for me.
I adore this game and yes get the DLC!!! The refugee camp and the tarvern add so much to do while you're waiting on other quests and add a ton to the story!
I may have sunk more hours into this game than any other. The ratio recipe of chores to decisions to overcoming obstacles is perfectly tooth-achingly sweet for me, and the theme isn't uber dark, but it isn't kindie gartner fluffy dinosaurs for once.
Loved this gem of a game. It does have it's downs and issues, but it's got a nice little core. I'd say the DLC can be worth it if you can get them either on sale or bundled sale. Adds some important lore and backstory. Dunno if you play Early Access games, but Traveller's Rest is a fun game I'd recommend that's in the same vein of games, just as an Tavern/Inn keeper.
You are so brave for keeping up with the sheer tedium of this game! I couldn't imagine it. I am actually someone who's only recently getting into farming sims as a genre (beyond being an Animal Crossing enjoyer who never sticks it out past the 3 month point lol), so I really appreciate all of your videos about various games and series. Very well put together content!
I love the DLCs and the game. Most of the DLC is just lore and other things you can do. Each one is good if you want to do a run alone to really get the feel of each DLC they all have story but I have played them from the start with all on and its okay.
Never research any items in the church basement without first eating cake (you get the recipe from the bum). Try to unlock Cremation as fast as you can, so you can still gain burrial certificates from corpses unworthy for burrial. You don't need to dig out the corpse that Yorik takes issue with, instead dig up the worst corpse (the one with the most red skulls and/or least white skulls). Get the DLC...awesome additional content, additional background story, additional ways to make money, additional technologies to unlock.
Graveyard keeper is such a cute game but I really can’t get over how the game just refuses to tell you how to make things or find anything after the tutorial
I am in the minority I think, but I love that it doesn't tell you much. Much prefer experimenting and figuring things out. Also there is a wiki if you get really stuck.
@robertschnobert9090 oh of course, my mistake. I forgot about the implied affair and demonic themes as well... We mustn't let the children be unduly influenced.
when i first played this game i hated the grind, having to wait a whole week to finish a mission was bad enough but also having to rely on a wiki so much for almost every aspect was really frustrating. i tried to do my first playthrough blind but i felt most of the mechanics were poorly explained or need to much try and error (like the potions and zombie making). its a shame i feel there is a really good game under all the filler
i had the same experience! the grind sucked all the fun from the game that i ended up just giving up and searching for the ending to see what would happen, turns out i dodged a bullet lmao
i like the grinding in this game, because they actually give you the tools to skip the grind, zombies and the ability to buy stuff instead of crafting, the main problem is that the dungeon isn't skippable and the combat is very boring, maybe they could have included combat potions, like bombs or incendiary to make the combat more than just spaming attack with a sword, or even combat zombies, making a revenant and leting it loose in the dungeon, only to have to fight him in the end instead of all the levels, a true boss battle created by the player
I enjoyed the game at first, but halfway through it became so grindy and tedious that I resented it. I’m glad you felt the same painful grind I did; it kinda vindicates my own opinions. Happy Halloween!
As a note, for the sermons, Graveyard quality affects donations, Church quality affects faith. (Also, the Combo Prayer is really good as it combines the effects of the faith prayer and money prayer, though it is more difficult to create as a result.)
I love Graveyard Keeper, so happy to see more people enjoy it. About your DLC-question. There are four DLCs. Breaking Dead, Stranger Sins, Game of Crone and Better Save Soul (yeah, that are ouns on shows). You already have Breaking Dead, as this DLC added Zombies. Many versions of the game contain the DLC, I think it is platform dependent if it is included with the base game. Stranger Sins add a quest line which uncovers what happened 200 years ago, the source of the ancient curse and the ancient contract. It is quite funny to see the buildings that are ruins in the game as fully working buildings and gives you a new feeling for the space. You learn of the history of Gerry, the talking skull and other characters. Also you get to create a tavern and turn your food and alcoholic beverages into money. You can recruit diverse villagefolk to perform in your tavern including Ms. Charm. In my opinion the best DLC, the past stories are interesting and make the world more lived in and the tavern has mechanics that fit in well. Game of Crone looks at the other side of the Inquisition. You meet someone fleeing from the inquisition and he coaxes you into setting up a refugee camp that soon will house more refugees from the elusive town. Turns out these refugees are mostly aristocrats that can't hold a hammer and also don't know how to grow food, so you are hired for manual labor and supply them with food and drink. They pay with expensive jewelry. These 12 gold coins for aristocrat papers get really easy with this DLC. There is also a story line featuring a vampire, which you can provide with fresh blood. Also you get more dialogue from all the villagefolk, including the beekeper (yes, the village has one). I haven't had time to make a full playthrough with the Better Save Soul DLC, I know you get a new machanic to convert souls and turn sins into virtues. I have to play a full game with that to properly form an opinion. If you are interested in the story, then Stranger Sins is kinda a must buy. Would say even if not the tavern is quite fun to use. All DLC run alongside the normal gameplay, so I would make a new game once acquiring any DLC.
This is a pretty fun game, but yeah towards the end you're just ganna sit around waiting for the right day to talk to someone, I'm assuming I just missed something, but I found it so hard to get the blue points, so I spent a lot of time just waiting for the weeks to pass so I could buy the astrologers books to get the blue points and finish
