Wow that VR Calais is absolutely beautiful! Well done and much respect to the owner for looking after it with such pride and love. Absolutely love it, looks brand new. I used to own a very clean VR Calais myself and to this day I am spewing I sold it when I upgraded, should have kept it as a second car. I have a soft spot for the VR/VS, they are sexy to look at and they are fantastic cars.
Those rear door ashtrays held batteries for my Walkman back in the day. Dad wondered why there was always a rattle in the rear doors of our VR, until he found the stash of AA batteries!!!
My first car in high school twelve years ago was a final month Series 2 VS Calais. Purchased it from the original owner for 5k, same colour, condition and mileage as this one. Absolutely beautiful car - saw many McDonald’s drive thrus at the time. Once I was ‘old enough’ to buy a v8 VZ Calais, I ended up selling it to someone interstate to become a wedding car. Hopefully it’s still out there somewhere.
@Hardtarget87jcvd The VR's were as common as mud when I was in high school in the 90's, before the SUV's arrived. The stock Eurovox radio cassette had a great sound when we played Gold 104.3 on it. Ours was an Exec Series 1 and Silver. Always good on the school run.
Nice example especially for its age, i remember when i got my 93 VR ute with 148,000kms it was best condition out of other 3 Commodore i had which all were at 160,000kms.
Very nice. I recently inherited a 1 owner VR Executive thats basically immaculate. It was my grand parents car they buy from new back in 93, it only has a lil over 70k on the clock. It spent the majority of its life in a dark garage so the paint is great & the interior is mint non smokers & obviously being old people they didnt thrash it lol so the engine is very healthy. Its a legit 1 owner low km immaculate gem................that ill be turnin into a skid car lol. I could never sell it for obvious reasons & i dont really need it so why not, ill get enjoyment out of it & its still in the family.
Takes me back to when my father had a 94' one, had almost everything that this one does. Only differences were that his was Maroon & the headliner was gone to god, I'd kill to have one of these one day.
Just to mention I sold one of my bonnet insulators boxed as in New Old Stock condition. Wanted 200 and got bombarded with messages, higher offers, people got a hold of my number and such. Anyway now I can see how it fulfills the engine bay, truly keeping it a clean example. These days I'm merely holding onto the parts until I need them or someone makes a offer I can't refuse. Well Looking for the L67 supercharger parts lately to tinker with that route thanks for the video!
No way! Belongs in the owner's shed & to be driven. I still daily drive my stock oe TS Astra which keeps it running mint, used to daily my oe stock VY Acclaim before it got flooded in '22. That beast would have driven me home too, got around the block trans kicking, but seats were too wet. Poor thing is long gone 😭 Miss my oe stock daily VH vacationer wagon too, that was the best car overall.
Gday Commodore man My VR Calais ive had for 20 years need some love i wish my was still like that If you get bored ive got a play list of my Calais project trying to get it sorted out again Great video mate 👍 Take it easy mate Byron from WA
@@commodoreman1 yeah ive got a shopping list of things to fix haha we build my dad a vx calais back to as good as we could get it he loves it. Looking forward to your next video
That's bloody amazingly clean. Fair chance (50/50 maybe) that I painted at least some of that vehicle, Its a while back - trying to remember if we had cut over to using enamel at that point - it was close! I cant remember if it was '95 or '96 when we migrated from Acrylic to Enamel paint (in the new enamel paint shop - NEPS)...
My hilux is in extremely good condition ..she’s 14 years old and people thinks it’s only 3 or 4 ….washed regularly and interior cleaned regularly…regarding to that it spends 3 or 4 days on the beach and having 3 dogs in the bag most days …
When I had my Rare No 52 of 500 SS 50 Ute..I told my self I’m never going to sell it…after 9 years a few car shows and app 100 quarter mile runs …it had to go to make room for another kid …that car was a daily driver in excellent condition always garaged ….undercarriage pressure cleaned monthly washed weekly and fully detailed monthly …that was my second favourite coming first Was my 1973 GT coupe …
They gradually removed it - VS1 was the full lower half, VS2 was only the statesman height (lower door strips) and VT/VX only had the skirts accented before it was completely gone in VY.
@@gdawwg1125 Yes, I agree with VY vs VX and earlier. The 2-tone even on VT & VX was still an easy way to pick a Calais, and added class to the overall look. It's hard to tell a VY Calais from a VY Berlina from the rear - but at least they had the deeper tail lights. At the front a VY Calais is barely different to an Exec with fog lights added. You're really got to be a trainspotter to pick them apart in VY. VZ2 started to make the Calais look unique again, and at least in VE they made the Calais-V differences even greater, and more obvious (but then cheapened it by offering the same alloys on the 2007 Omega-based Lumina sales package).
would've been even better had it been a VS Calais Series II as the VR's really looked so dated even when they were new with that awful Shadow Tone going halfway up the car. Also that ribbed trim was the worst ever put in to any Holden. VS was so much better.
At the time ('93) the 2-tone was still a good look, especially with lots of VK-VP Calais still on the road with the same dividing height between the upper & lower colours. I really liked the striped velour interior when it came out - it was like an evolution of the VC/VH mid-level velour, and the VL Calais Macedon cloth, but updated to '93. By late 94 it was looking a little dated though, especially against the velours that Ford were using in the Ghias of the era (the EF having a similar style of velour that GMH moved to with VR/VS velour in the inserts). When VS2 came out with the statesman lower accents, it instantly aged VS1 and VR, as it was still the same shape, but so much more modern. But living through the era in my late teens, the VS2 was still 3 years away when VR was released, and the VR looked good.
My boss had identical model in 2009 had just turned over 50thousand KMs she said I could buy it for $20thousand I was considering her car or a Mint Toyota Camry Azura for $15thousand As she wouldn't budge on price I bought Azura absolutely trouble free motoring 👍👍🤠🐨🦘✌️✌️

I see similar beauties sometimes in the carparks of my local RSL or footy club.
How can a VR look so good even with 160,000 kms?!
what a credit to its owner great example of a perfect commodore

Haha, I did the same in ‘86 in my Dad’s VK.

I’m a falcon man but they should bring car manufacturing back and Make Australia Great Again.
Scott Morrison did a deal with Trump to close Holden and import Chevrolets F Trucks an Dodge
OCD at its finest but without it the car wouldn’t be so immaculate
Had a VR Calais S1 in high school. That Buick V6 was bullit proof. Great car.

I thought I was OCD with cleaning all of my toys 😜
I have an old VS Calais. Its had a hard life before I got it unfortunately. I love it.

Did you know they had two fuel gauges? The big analogue one, and a secret push on the trip computer gave you a digital fuel left!
Can't believe it has 160kms. Unreal.

Hey mate is it rare to have the 3 stickers on the window? I still have one on my windscreen to
Most of them got razor bladed off when they got the crappy dealer tint job.
I never understood why they got rid of the 2 tone paint on calais after the VS
They gradually removed it - VS1 was the full lower half, VS2 was only the statesman height (lower door strips) and VT/VX only had the skirts accented before it was completely gone in VY.
@commodorenut a mistake in my opinion

Some people just know how to look after things,,,, not me,,, they are just things,
obviously a modern Ted Bullpit owned it
Omg
sorry if i missed it, but how many Km's does it have
160,000
Interview the owner!!
How many KMS ?
160XXX
Wow, does it belong to Ted Bullpit?
That’s having pride in what you own …look after it and will look after you …it’s a shame it’s a V6 …the Early V8s sound the best ….
They’re only original once.
