I forced TF2 YouTubers to build an unplayable map

- I love TF2's arena mode, but after a while it can get a bit stale. Let's fix that! This is a minigame inspired by Ultimate Chicken Horse where whoever dies gets to add an edit to the map. The additions compound with one another to make what starts out as a basic arena turn into a nightmarish hellscape of constant chaos. And as it turns out, that's a lot of fun! The basic rules are that each round is a 1v1 best of 3 (or 5), and whoever wins 10 rounds first wins. The loser gets to add whatever they want to the map as long as it's not completely overpowered. Let me know if you want me to do this again!

Second video of this going up on the Chucklenuts channel soon! We had a practice recording to get the ruleset down/see if 10 rounds was too long but it ended up being really good on its own. 8:40 So fun fact about doors! The actual collision of a door has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with the door props in and of themselves, but rather a specific moving door object that's invisible and placed usually just behind the door. This means that just putting a door somewhere won't cut it to block off space, you actually need to add a clip brush in order to stop stuff from just phasing through it.

I absolutely love this. I would love to see more of this, possible even 2v2 where all players get one edit per round. I feel like the best part was the very last match and would love to see that be more-so of the middle of the game so the first is slow, middle is chaotic yet fun, third is just full on chaos

That was a ton of fun! If you want a more controlled environment for future games/videos of this style, you could create a butt load of prefabs, and then allow the players to chose from among those prefabs. This would also allow more complex logic setup to be built before hand, and implemented with the click of a button!
If you want to push it even farther, could make it grid based and force the prefabs onto a grid.

51:00 ok, this whole fucking section was the most hilarious shit I've seen. It was pretty funny all the way through, and then at 52:50 Zenith just made me fuckin lose it, I cried for the entire next minute of the video. I can't even explain why that exact time when he repeated his desire to instakill TheWhat was so amazing, but the comedic effect was the best
Another thing at that section has the points be wrong like zenith not getting a point when he wins and when thewhat wins zenith gets the point :D
I think what does it for me is that he's able to say it with a straight face.
Easy fix to the overpowered stuff:randomize who's red and who's blue, or make the map symmetrical. That can make it a little fairer (or at least let people screw themselves over)
Thewhat seems like a genuine fun friend to play with. Zenith on the other hand…

Love this! I think for the future the ruleset should be: After a duel, the loser gets to make 1 edit, THEN the winner gets to make 1 counter-edit, and then, most importantly, the loser gets to pick whether they get to be RED or BLU. This would hopefully encourage the loser of the previous match to come up with insane changes while the winner would be more focused on making the map balanced, as not doing so would always put them at a disadvantage. An additional rule could or could not be added that forbids the winner from simply mirroring the loser's edit.
The hammer editor has always been a strange case to me
This reminds me of an old TF2 mode where people placed items to build their own fort on an empty map. I miss that mode.

I'd love more of this but you should definitely add some rules, so that it's more clear what the players can add, and it's not just dependant on your opinion of what's balanced. I've got 3 suggestions.
1. You cannot edit the spawn area
2. At least one class needs to be able to reach the point from spawn for both teams (so no completely blocking off spawn or the point)
3. Max one 1 sentry (lvl 1)
4. Nothing that immediately kills the opponent or makes yourself unkillable
I'd say anything else is fair game since the loser can always counter an addition. (E.g. if spawn can only be left by mobility classes the loser can add a teleporter or a ramp.) Maybe you could allow certain OP things like an Uber button, but they have to be at an equal distance away from both spawns.
I also think the winner should place first since it's an advantage to go after. The winner getting 1 feature and the loser getting 2 was really fun too. I REALLY hope to see more of this!
And no spell books.

I think this would be great to make all the changes symmetric, so each player has to make advantageous decisions for attacking with the knowledge that the opponent can do the same thing. By the end, you might have something incredibly well-balanced and interesting, rather than “unplayable”.

Awesome idea, it's interesting to watch the map evolve as the game progresses! I had an idea for some rules you could always try going forward:
Only one sentry per player, and they can have the sentry moved around the center space of the "arena".
Cannot create an effect that can instantly kill the opponent upon the match starting, maybe a certain HU distance from the doors on the outside?

If you decide to do something like this again, you can use premade prefabs of previously made logic to quickly drop in hammer and give players a list of em to pick from.

That rule for balance went out the window in Zenith's favour pretty quick, huh? Rapidly became just a siege on TheWhat's spawn with rules on him being way stricter.

@@Svar3n2527 That'd be pointless pedantry if it weren't also wrong. Watch from 0:08 to 0:15 and you'll notice he specifically refers to balance. All he had to do was make the more powerful changes serve both sides (you know, balance them) and it would have been far more entertaining, not to mention fair.
In addition, you'll also notice that TheWhat had to start playing really defensively (boringly) entirely because of how unfair what Zenith was getting away with was, therefore even by your own metrics it wasn't done well.

It was entertainment and I will like to see more of this, but I think there are some rules that you have to put up where it doesn't end with them trying to kill the opponent immediately with bombs or other things
