The Late Show with Stephen Colbert is the premier late night talk show on CBS, airing at 11:35pm EST, streaming online via Paramount+, and delivered to the International Space Station on a USB drive taped to a weather balloon. Ben Schwartz has chemistry with literally everyone. The man is walking fun and charisma.
He’s an improv master so that helps for matching the energy of whoever you are with! I agree he’s an amazing guy!

FACTS
This was one of the most fun interviews I've seen in a long ass time. They clearly have chemistry.
Ben knocking the cup off the table, Stephen getting him a new cup, Ben knocking THAT cup off the table, then him grabbing the now broken cup from behind and trying to grab its now broken off handle was just perfect physical comedy the entire way through
This whole interview was fantastic. The almost constant improv, the chemistry, and the sheer amount of fun they seemed to have. I hope Ben gets to come back and maybe even get to do a Flipped Interview with Stephen
Far and away my favorite Colbert late show interview. I feel like he's too in control often, so it's fun to see someone push him on his back foot

Ben Schwartz is the embodiment of chaotic good. Wow, I'm almost tired from watching that amount of energy; perfect person to play Sonic!

I'm offended this isn't going viral, it's such a perfect interview.
It's little but I love how Ben refers to Colleen O'Shaughnessey (Tails' voice actress) as just "Colleen", when most likely a handful of people in the audience knew who that was. She's not a mainstream name like he or Idris, but Ben's been super supportive of her since the day she was announced to reprise her role and has shown over the months leading up to the movie how much respect he has for her and probably voice actors as a whole (which makes sense given his history in VO). Idk I just thought it was cool, and the fact that she's seemingly gonna get top billing in the movie which isn't usually something voice actors for major movies get is dope as well
It's really sweet how he hypes up Colleen's inclusion every chance he gets, putting her on the same level as Idris Elba and Jim Carrey.
He mentions her so many times that it warms my heart to see Colleen O'Shaughnessey recognized with all these a-list actors. Ben is really cool and proves why he's one of the best sonic we've seen.
As much as I think Ben is a class act, I still can't help but feel that he was miscast to play Sonic. He just doesn't capture Sonic's youthful nature to me.
@@StriderZessei Personally for me, since Sonic is 12 in the first movie and probably no older than 13 in the second, I think it fits really well. While he's still sarcastic and quippy, this time he's an actual child so there's a sense of innocence and childish excitement other versions of Sonic don't have, and I don't think Roger Craig Smith's voice would fit this specific version of the character
@@raynacarraway440 I get that. I just think Roger is better at sounding young than Ben. I seriously had no idea Sonic was supposed to be 12 when I watched the first movie, simply because Ben's child voice is so much older than Roger's teen voice.
At the start of this clip, Stephen has a manic glee in his eyes. It was only when they went into the catchphrase part that I realized he was so excited because he knew he was going to get to tap into his improv roots with Ben soon!
Had no Idea he was Sonic, but let's not forget his excellent role in Space Force!
He was also Sonic in the play.

VERY rarely does Colbert have a guest on that is sharper and faster at comedy than he is.

@@grumblycurmudgeon This wasn't just an interview, it was improv. Improv has a chaotic nature that can produce some of the funniest moments, but also some duds here or there. I love Colbert for his interview skills but it was super fun to watch a fantastic improviser keep him on his toes.
I f***ing love Ben Schwartz. Love any guest that plays improv bits with Stephen, and the fact Stephen felt comfortable enough to splash water on Ben’s face, lol, you don’t see that chemistry often.

That’s the kind of guest I would tell the producers to bring back as much as possible.
I have such an infatuation with Schwartz's comedy style. I'll go back and watch interviews for stuff I've already seen or things I've never even heard of. Middleditch and Schwartz was incredible too.

I completely lost it when he shoved the second mug off the desk like a cat that's just discovered gravity.
The passive fights over the objects on the desk is like watching a cat and it's owner XD Loved it.

He's got a character for everything and is a character himself, constantly doing improv in normal conversations, getting along with everyone, and their energy just runs the room. Ben is an amazing comedian and amazing person, and only has uphill to go from here

Ben's energy is so infectious that it usually takes whoever is interviewing along for a ride; I rarely see an interaction with him NOT go off the rails, and I love that. If you haven't watched them: look up the Polygon interviews with Patrick Gill, just insanity

I’m a huge Ben Schwartz fan. I’ve seen practically every late night interview he’s been in. This is by far the best one. His energy is so palpable and I strive to be as charismatic and likable as he is. Damn. I wanna be his best friend.

This interview is a master class of improv, at 4:26 they both say "very dark" in complete unison, down to the intonation.

I’m a major Ryan Drummond fan. And when I heard Ben’s voice as Sonic for the first time, It was jubilation. He is absolutely wonderful.
Ben is doing the mental trick with Tails to help Stephen get it right. Keeps emphasizing the 'T' sound in the sentences leading up to Stephen answering. Clever for a good interview and very kind to try to make Stephen look good.
He even says "I can't even TELL you how excited I would be." Emphasizing the T and "tell" sounds quite a bit like "tail". Very very clever.

It was a crazy Rollercoaster. I actually think he was so in Colbert's face from the get go (I'm sure Ben was ecstatic to spar with a role model) , it threw Steven's vibe off because his show is so cookie cutter predictable now. Eventually you could see a moment when Stephen remembered it was all about the fun though and it ended up fantastically funny. I lost it at the broken handle mug gesture.
