- Ben Schwartz, the voice of Sonic The Hedgehog, chats to BBC Radio 1's Film Critic Ali Plumb about the bits he stole from co-star Jim Carrey, and the gorgeous man that is James Marsden. Plus, he looks back on his iconic role as Jean Ralphio in Parks and Recreation, and they debate the greatest celebrity dads: Henry Winkler or Ron Swanson.

Ali always has such great chemistry with people he interviews
Hes just THE BEST... so so good. Smart, charming, respectful and fun
has he interviewed James Marsden?
even when Ben Mendelsohn laid into him, he just self-depricated and moved on. nothing but class
He’s always really good
Also, Ben Schwartz always develops great chemistry with his interviewers. So kinda the ideal combo!
He’s the voice of the titled character but his name doesn’t even make the poster 🙄
I thought James Marsden (seen him before but didn’t know his name) was the voice for sonic until this😂
thngotiatr they don’t add voice actors in the poster unless it’s an animated film
@@mrman6845 But Ryan Reynold's name was in the Detective Pikachu poster and he played a animated character tho. My only guess is that Ben isn't that well known yet for his name to be on a poster for anything..!
Kid Kamren he played Pikachu
They put his name in some of the posters not all of them
Considering Ben is the king of improv, Ali's ability to keep up with him is so impressive.
This interview is the best ping pong match I've ever seen.
Ali Plumb always does the BEST interviews. Keep up the good work.
Wow! Both Ben Schwartz and Ali Plumb were amazing in this interview. It was super fast paced, super chaotic, fantastic chemistry, and had about 3 references a minute.
Do these guys know each other? They talk like old friends, very good chemistry.
That's the thing of Ali Plumb, he's awesome!
@@fhinnes Also the thing of Ben Schwartz
truly, Ali is the perfect interviewer and Ben is the perfect interviewee. It was a riveting video to watch
He’s just a great interviewer
@@DiskoSpider I see no lie in that. Would be so dope to meet them both!
Ali Plumb should have an interview-off with Sean from Hot Ones.
An interview-off... To the death
Jav ngl, i said this 5 BBC one interviews ago :)
YES!!!
I was thinking the same thing.
Ali's interviews are the only ones I ever watch. He ACTUALLY has a conversation with people and asks them interesting questions instead of the stupid superficial questions everyone else asks.
Guys, you realize this is the greatest interview of the 21st century, right?
This is my favourite interview of yours so far. the rapport was phenomenal
I think when people see one of Ali's interviews for the first time they are like wow those two have great chemistry. But it's not a one-off, because you go on to watch more of his stuff and your like he gets along with everyone!. But that's not true either really.
What Ali does best is something most interviewers these days just ignore... research. All of his interviews are great because Ali or his team (not sure on that) actually do some research and find out what is real for this person (actor, director, etc) and use that as a starting point. This is why almost everyone is like, "no one has asked me that" or "you know about that?" or you can see the subject is something they are surprised and happy to talk about. Instead of just asking the same questions people have been asking them for the last 3 months or so since they have been promoting their project, you get something that is unique and different. This is usually the reason for these interactions being fun to watch.
I mean there is more to analyze here if you wanted to, but a youtube comment isn't the right place. The bottom line is Ali Plumb is GOOD at his job in a very true sense (something that is often overused in the modern world).
I watched a lot of his interviews (who hasn't haha) and I think it's three things Ali does: indeed, lots research! And you just know he really loves movies. He doesn't research because he wants to but because he's eager to know everything about the thing he likes so much. (if I remember correctly he started with talking about movies, not interviewing the actors in it) He loves his craft and it shows. The other thing that makes him stand out: he applies the rules of a stand up comedian. He never ignores a reaction, he always goes along. The conversation always flows. And to be honest, on top of that he just seems like a genuine friendly, funny dude. For me he is as much of a celebrity as the people he interviews :)
@@jonnnnniej I’m literally binge watching Ali Plumb interviews right now!
@@ganonk79 sweet! Enjoy :D and you've inspired me to rebinge haha
And he didn’t get run over by a Lexus for this role.
I think Tom hooked him up
He didn’t get the money tho
Last night I watched a movie with Diane and the girls, in which a blue hedgehog is separated from his fox boyfriend. The children were sniffling, which I _believed_ to be due to the sad nature of the film. I was wrong, and now I have coronavirus.
Serious chemistry between you two... start of a friendship? I know I want to be friends with Ali - who wouldn't?!
The mixture of AMAZING chemistry along with Ali's INCREDIBLE interviewing skills makes the interview one of the BEST ever
Wow, what a great interview. It felt like they were lifelong friends. The chemstry was amazing.
You can tell Ben Schwartz has mastered improv
06:20 Thank you!! I am always annoyed no one ever mentioned his character in Jake and Amissh. That's where I first fell in love with Jake&Amir's couples therapist and Amir's cousin Doobs. Ben Schwartz and Thomas Middleditch was one of the best things in Jake and Amir sketch. Gold!
this interview cured my lockdown anxiety
Ali is my favourite interviewer ever. Ben is one of the funniest people on the planet.
There are a multitude of reasons why I love this interview.
I love the back and forth between the two of you
This isn't even an interview. It's a conversation between two really good friends who haven't seen each other in years and are stoked to be reunited... and you can't convince me otherwise.
I feels like Ali and Ben have been friends for years! They play off each other so well!
Man, I was just randomly opened it stayed for their sincere and fun attitudes. Great interview.
This isn't the collab we deserved, but it's the one we needed.
They need to be best friends.
Helen K I think they are now and “It’s the BEeeEEeest!!!!”
MrSanVaN he’s TeeECHniiiically HooooMmeeLEess
One of the best interviews I've ever seen.
He will always be Jean Ralphio from Parks and Recreation to me!
What _up,_ Big Teeeeeee!...stop. This must be the lovely Sally. _Enchanté._ Listen beautiful, let's cut the bull, alright? You want this. I _definitely_ want this. Tails wants this. Let's seal this devil's threeway right here, right now.
Step one: We get 50 rings, buy into this special stage.
Step two: We roll over to the special stage, either in your Mercedes-Benz or my pre-owned Acura Legend.
Step three: I dagger you on the dancefloor. Just bounce, bounce, bounce, bounce, bounce, _now all the ladies sayin',_ bounce, bounce, bounce, bounce, bounce.
What do you say, sexy?
He plays that character so well I almost hate his voice. But then he plays Sonic and I'm like, "Oh hey this is actually kinda nice."
I hate Jean Ralphio(in a way that you love to hate a character) but Ben is a pretty chill dude.
@@KingNefiiria A pretty Cherry Dude.
How can someone be so talented at simply interviewing people?
To be great at anything you need talent, I feel like saying 'just' interviewing doesn't do him enough credit
Forget about Sonic, you guys should make a comedy. I'm cracking up! What a great interview hahaha
You press the plushies stomach and he says "ill be back in a minute with a key, aaaaaaand a donut"
"I forgot the key. I will be back with a donut!"
"-A KEY"
"-A key"
HAHA GODDAMMIT
Thank you for uploading this, I’ve been addicted to watching Ben’s interviews since I saw Sonic 😂❤️
Meeee toooooo
The funny thing is Ben Schwartz is the same voice actor for Dewey in ducktales so basically all I hear is Dewey saying everything sonic is saying
Same as Randy Cunningham from Disney XD 2012 - 2015
"This guy?? He's played a duck!" LOL
Big fish. Copyright Tim Burton.
So quick.
he's so witty. it kills me!!!! haha
This could have been an hour long podcast.
I love literally any interview this guy does
"Where am I? What year is it? Is the Rock president?" That's actually a great line. That line makes me want to watch this.
Man, Ali needs his own channel, his own show, idc. I genuinely enjoy pretty much ALL his interviews. Legend 💯
He's the only interviewer that I watch even if I have no idea who he is interviewing, cause it's always good!
this guy is too humble he doesnt want to admit hes big
It’s Cherry Dude!!
Gary Jerry No way man, that’s clearly Sulu Candles
THE WOOOOOOORST!
- Jean Ralphio
it's actually the best "the worst".
Can't believe JEAN RALPHIO is SONIC THE HEDGEHOG
This was THE BEST celebrity interview! Love them both
Is it weird that I watch these interviews for the interviewer, and the interviewees are just a bonus?
Ben and Ali's chemistry gave me goosebumps; they need to do a sketch or a movie together
Ben Schwartz is sooooo good as Sonic The Hedgehog and please keep being Sonic
What an amazing interview! I wish they could all be this way! Yes all of them!
I actually got one of those sonic plushies, and my dad opened it and put the voices Ben made like “stop touching my stomach!” Or whatever. And when I woke up I touch it and it did that. And then I screamed like sonic
This was a pretty amazing interview, I'd watch these two just getting icecream or something because im sure the banter will be quality
Who would win in a fight, Ben Schwartz or a ham sandwich
Depends, does it have mayo?
I'm doing my first watch through of Parks and Rec at the moment and managed to quickly paused just after the interviewer says the word "when" at 7:38 so as to avoid spoilers. Nailed it!
I just realized it said Ben Schwartz VS Ali Plumb
Amazing
I had no desire to see the movie, but after seeing this interaction, I am now compelled.
Beautiful interview. BEAUTIFUL!
Let's see that in instant replay
Let’s get Ali on Hot Ones! That would be the best, most wholesome interview ever!
Woah.. The Internet will implode on awesome interviewer-on-interviewer awesomeness, it'll be awesometastical
Interview inception, I would love it!
Love EVERYTHING about this. Pls tell me these 2 are now best friends. The chemistry is nuts!
What a pleasant interview
This interview deserves a Nobel prize.
"...Big Fish, Copyright Tim Burton..." I nearly spat my water out.
Wait that interview was incredible 😍
I came here because I didn't know Ali Plumb before and was intrigued by his voice, and I stayed for the incredibly good chemistry and casual conversation.
I rarely like interviews, but this one feels different somehow. Kudos to everybody behind the scenes, and of course to Plumb and Schwartz for being good sports.
All I hear is Jean-Ralphio
HAHAHAHAHAA dude Ben Schwartz is the best. he's like Robin Williams quick.
What a fun interview fellas!
The least annoying film interview i have seen in years.
Mark R. Ali is simply the best interviewer ever
@@csteelproductions2186 He is lol
Ben Schwartz is the best character on Parks & Rec
The perfect sonic voice!
Same as Randy Cunningham
Ritsel Abuan now that’s the cheese and Bruce!
@@shabsa442 Randy's Quote
Ritsel Abuan yeah
how did nobody catch
ali: "ducktales!!"
ben: "woo-ooo"
💀😭😭
it was so quick, loved it
i literally can not wait for him and steve carrells new netflix show spaceforce. heard its going to be a similiar style to p&r and the office. with some of the same writers
OMG peas in a pod these two 😍
"Jeff (Fowler) did an incredible job, somehow made it all worked."
*Yes. I believe in that.*
I literaly forgot he was in Parks and Rec
this was one of the best so far!
This might be the perfect interview
Ben Schwartz interviews Ali Plumb. Win.
ali usually does great interviews but this one has to be the most special one. its like htwo people but who are exactly alike. like these two just completely vibed.
How is Sonic so fast?
PILLS BABY!!!
I assume this is the first time they've met, but watching this interview you'd think they've been best friends for years
2:46 Confirmed: That was the design all along.
You serious?
@@zaksolo8927 I mean its pretty odd they have a life size model of the "new" design while they were still filming...odd
Cobra Jay it’s not the new design...
@@CobraJayOfficial yeah the eyes look pretty small im not convinced thats the newer model and not the original one, besides which the physical model probably doesn't look exactly like either finished animated version exactly
Jean Ralphio making Tom Haverford and Leslie Knope proud.
I was born in 1991❗☺️
Jim Carrey is an amazing actor.
He plays his roles, perfectly.
I LOVE DUCKTALES!
You forgot Rise of the TMNT and Randy Cunningham 9th grade Ninja.
Ben is the best 😄 you should watch ben schwartz fasting contest
Ali giving me big Amir Blumenfeld vibes lol
Ben Schwartz is awesome and his character are awesome to Randy, Leonardo and Dewey
these two play off each other so well, they should do more stuff together
Real fun interview, thanks
You’ve even said the phrase, “Ugly ugly…stop!” Haha
me and my boys sing in Jean Ralphio tones as much as possible. Using it as the Corona call in this trying time.
This is really brilliant - editing, clips, interviewer, interviewee, rapport seems genuine
All I hear is Randy Cunningham 😂❤✊🏾
He used high pitched voice
Ali Plumb is a national treasure.
This interview was like a table tennis match Jesus lmao love the bouncing off each other so quick
Ben's subtle little "whoo-oo" after the interviewer's "Ducktales"...
Because even people in the show can't forget XD
This bromance is strong!
Where's the movie!?
“Big Fish, copyright Tim Burton”
That reminded me of every contest video he has done.
James Marsden plays Cyclops? James Marsden plays Cyclops.
Ali added himself to the thumbnail because he too knows it had been a ping-pong match of an interview
Wait a minute. Jean-Ralphio was Sonic? But he keeps getting run over by a lexus!
CHERRY DUDE!
