Thank you so much! I did all this, but frig still wasn’t cooling. Took the panel with fan off again and noticed that the red wire for fan had snapped. Stripped wire, reinserted and superglued it in. Put panel back in an hour later. Frig was 57 degrees at 8:45. At 11 am back to 38. Hallelujah. 7 year old side-by-side.

I just literally had to do this and yes the whole back panel was frozen. We had a repair come today and say he need to change Evap cover for $185 not including the $135 repair cost, and the 69 diagnostic fee.. I said absolutely NOT. Husband also told me the guy didn't even take off the whole back panel so how would have guessed what the problem was.. I am soooo grateful for your video!!!!!

This fixed the problem. It was on a different Samsung model but mostly the same configuration. I have a handy husband and we generally try to fix things ourselves. You gave good instructions and we were able to fix it. The most difficult part is removing the cover. Thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge.

Gail, hang in there because it just might freeze over again, humidity in the summer is the worst. Nice to have a handy husband but be ready to do it yourself next time because it happens unexpectedly.

THANK YOU SIR! You just saved me from a huge bill. Had the same problem and it wound up being exactly as you showed in this video. My fridge side is cooling normally again and the fan is back at work. Just a note, if you own one of these Samsung fridges and you start to hear a little rattle/clanking sound in your fan, check it for ice BEFORE it freezes up and stops turning.

    • @FlipsFix
      @FlipsFix  7 лет назад +1

You fully understand what is happening to your fridge before it even happens. My wife hates that fan noise when it starts chipping on the ice formation. It's a manufacturers defect that may continue. But not so scary when you can fix it yourself. Not a bad fridge otherwise. Paul

We have a Samsung RS265TDRS, with the double doors (one side freezer, and the other side refrigerator), and your clear and concise instructions saved us several hundred dollars in repair bills. However, let's face it, if the repair person who showed up was incompetent, we would have ended up spending several thousand dollars on a new refrigerator. Bless you!

This video ROCKS! Thank you and a big thumbs up!! I followed the manual instructions of unplugging for 24 hours and then trying, no luck. I then called a service tech out of the house who had me do the exact same thing and said if that did not work, then I had a bad compressor. He said the cost and repair of a compressor is nearly the cost of buying a new refrigerator. Unfortunately he was clueless and it cost me $100 for the "service" call but at least I found this video and it now works fine. You saved me a lot of money and stress, so I appreciate the time you took to make this!

Thanks for the video. My Samsung was different model. The freezer was fine, but fridge was at 60 degrees. Taking the shelves out, and looking at the back panel, could see that there was ice inside one of the screw holes and ice at bottom. Was unable to fully take the back panel off (unscrew 4 screws, but something else was stuck). So did the following. Unplug the fridge overnight. Food in freezer will be OK for 24 hours. Took out the fridge food, and put things that would spoil in a mini-fridge. Left the fridge door open overnight, and stuck a towel at the bottom of the backpanel to prop it open a bit (and collect water). In the morning the fridge was back in working order. So thanks for the video, I think leaving it the door open with fridge unplugged had same affect as your de-icing via hair dryer (which I used on the iced up screw holes). Also note - not 100% sure about this, but think this may have been caused by using the "power cool", which can drop (at least on my fridge) temp below freezing.

I've been looking for this video last year and unfortunately I couldn't find it!! I ended up calling a technician and was asked to leave the fridge open and unplugged for several days. The technician ended up saying it was the motherboard and needed replacing. $450 later, the fridge was fixed but I guess I would have fixed it when I defrosted for several days myself. Fortunately this happened in the middle of winter and all my food was just sitting in the patio at refrigerator temperature. 6 months later it's happening again and my wife is yelling wanting a new fridge. First search and I found you!! THANK YOU so much!! You just saved me from buying a new fridge. I just came back from the hospital with a new born so I'll be working on this while bright and early tomorrow!!

I had been noticing our water bottles in the fridge not getting as cold as they used to. Woke up one day with light blinking on screen and fridge was warm. Wife said should we repair or not worth it and just get a new fridge. I didn’t want to just spent +$1,000. So I searched and found your video. Had the exact same problem. Fan started to make loud sputtering noises and than finally stopped. Noticed the top portion of the fridge was no cooling as well as the bottom despite the internal temperature reading at 34 degrees. Using your instructions I was able to take apart my fridge, defrost the fan and other parts, and put it all back together. Within an hour after plugging it back in temperature's were back to normal and air ventilation to the top of the fridge was good again. THANK YOU!
Note to others doing this: The back panel on your fridge has Styrofoam insulation. Depending on how frozen the panel is it may be hard to notice at first but if the panel does not want to come off easily keep using the hair dryer to warm the plate and send hot air in between. I accidently tore a small portion of the Styrofoam because it was literally frozen to the plastic wall of the fridge. (Thankfully some super glue put it back together lol). He makes it look easy in the video but it took me about 30 minutes of heating/gentle prying before I was able to get the panel off successfully.

I was going to make this video today and looks like you beat me to it. Just a quick shout out to Flip to say thanks and your video is spot on for this model.
In my experience, my wife and I noticed the fridge making some noise about 2 weeks prior to not cooling at all. This was the fan trying to cut through ice and keep working. Because I was so busy I didn't have time to defrost, so I let it go and ended up having to rip it apart.

Im sure you have fixed this by now but posting this for others that may have the same or similar model. On the RS267LASH you can hold power freeze and power cool down for a few seconds, not sure how many but you will see the display go into diagnostic mode to get an error code, the position of the small line, looks like a dash, determines the actual error. In my case it was error code 7 which is for refrigerator defrost error. You can google your model and get instructions on how to get the specific unit into diagnostic. It will also show you what number by dash position for error codes. After repaired you can hold the power freeze and power cool buttons down again for a few seconds, not sure how many, you will see the panel on the front go back to default settings and see actual numbers again. If you have persistent issues with this then you may need to replace and or relocate the defrost sensor. You can also check the defrost heater unit by checking continuity. If it reads like 367 or so resistance, I think it is (may want to double check my number here), then the defrost heater is ok. Also check the thermostats and make sure they aren't rubbing a hole in the tubing. They shouldn't be touching the tubing, if they do, over time, they will wear a hole in the tubing and leak refrigerant. You can test the thermostats by placing them in a small glass of ice water for a few minutes then check for continuity, once the thermostats are below 30 degrees farenheight, should read zero resistance if working properly. Depending on your specific model there may be a kit to relocate or replace a faulty sensor and displaced gasket. This is a common problem with lots of different Samsung refrigerators as well as others these days. Be sure all gaskets are in place properly when reassembling to avoid circulation issues. Improper circulation and poor directional airflow can cause the units to freeze up more often. Proper spacing around the unit will also assist in better circulation of air. Be sure the drain hole in the bottom isn't frozen leading to the evaporation pan before putting the fan housing back on.

Thank you thank you thank you!!!!!!! I fixed my refrigerator because of your video. I have a slightly different model than yours. Mine is RS265TDRS(in case someone else with this model has the same issue). I only have this refrigerator for a few years and all of the sudden it stopped working. Without your video and clear instructions, I would've to spend hundreds of dollars to have someone to come out and fix it if not buying a new one. Everything you mentioned in the video was EXACTLY what happened to mine. Ice was all over the panel and most importantly, all over the fan. It took me 2 hours to melt the ice and took the panel off. So for those of you having a hard time removing the panel, well, it took me a long time as well. You just have to be patient. But at the end it's all worth it. You have saved me money(potentially a repair cost or a new refrigerator), headache and time! I can't thank you enough, Paul. If you have an address, I would love to send you a bottle of wine. :)

Just thought I'd let you know I was in the parking lot about to go in and pick out a new fridge when I decided to do a quick search to see if my lack of cooling issue was common. I came across your video and decided to go back home and give it a go as I needed a working fridge today. Sure enough everything was iced up. Followed your video and it's back in business! First time in 6 years it's iced up, hopefully it's not a recurring issue but now I know what to look for. Thanks for saving me from spending a grand or more on another not built to last heap they try to pass off as appliances these days.

This video has helped me sooooo much. I have a Samsung American style fridge freezer, and the fridge number was blinking and food was going off. I took the contents out such as the food and shelves. Then unscrewed the necessary parts and then saw ice in there and used a hairdryer as well. Then once I de-iced the fridge, I replaced everything and it worked. It is slowly getting colder but is works! This video has saved me loads of money! Thank you sooooo much!

I have had this problem several times with the same refrigerator purchased in 2013. I watched the service man fix it. He said that this has been a major problem with this refrigerator. He sold me a service contract to "save me money". Samsung has not owned up to this problem. This time, the fan appeared to be striking the assembly plate. I ordered a new assembly which is supposed to come tomorrow. I will have to pull off some of the foam insulation to run the wire in a groove. duct tape should hold it.
    Thank you for your video.

They quickly got it repaired because it had warranty at the time, but now that it's up, we were about to spend who knows how much to get it fixed. Thanks - Yous just saved me a lot of money and kept a freezer full of food from spoiling since a Samsung repair person was not available until after the weekend. I have a split top and bottom drawer unit about 2 years old. Now I am concerned though that, if that is a regular problem with Samsung fridge/freezers, the next time this happens I might not be home and can't trust the equipment. I think I will stay away from Samsung products. I also have nothing but problems with their dishwasher, even though the service people have come out to repair a half a dozen times, it is still not working. Thanks again for the video.
