As you probably already know, I am addicted to Indian food. I fell in love with it during my first trip to India in February of 2018 and my love for it only grew when I returned to the country ten months later in November. I love sharing food experiences with people, so when I had the opportunity to visit another incredible Indian restaurant in my hometown of Miami, I knew I had to bring my dad with me!
My dad and I set off to Ayesha Fine Dining in Midtown, a new pedestrian-friendly area with lots of buildings and restaurants, with our mouths set on some flavorful Indian food. Come along with us as I take my dad on a delicious Indian food adventure and teach him all about southern Indian food!
Ayesha Fine Dining is part of the Ayesha Restaurant Group by my friend Mike Hussein. They also have fantastic restaurants in Pinecrest and Coconut Grove if you’re ever in the Miami area and looking for a great spot to eat some authentic Indian cuisine.
We started our meal with some scorching hot Bombay Chai, which is somewhat similar to a café con leche. It contains milk, ginger, cardamom, and other spices.
Next, we had the two-food-long Super Dosa, which is a plain dosa without an aloo filling. It was served with coconut chutney, tomato chutney, and a sambar (a tomato-based soup) containing potatoes, carrots, tomatoes, eggplant, and lentils. The coconut chutney was heavenly, with a pure coconut flavor and the tomato was very mild but flavorful. I love coconut chutney! Even though the dosa was two feet long, we ate the whole thing!
Our next dish was Pani Puri, one of my absolute favorites from the state of Maharashtra, which is made of fried, hollow, puffy flatbread that is filled with potatoes and masalas. It was served with two Panis - mint and tamarind. I prepared one for my dad and then tried one myself. It was an explosion of flavor! The mint with the sweetness of the tamarind and crunch of the Puri was like culinary heaven!
Next, I introduced my dad to vada, which is a savory southern Indian breakfast doughnut, and idli, a steamed cake made of rice flour and fermented lentils. They were served with more sambar and chutneys. The vada was soft with a crispy exterior and the idli was also soft, almost very similar to the dough of a Venezuelan arepa.
Our next dish was Marbar Beef, which is from the Indian state of Kerala and came with parathas, which are layered, doughy flatbreads. I showed my dad how to tear the paratha and grab the beef with it. It was fantastic! The beef’s curry, which contained onions, chilies, tomatoes, and tons of spices, was so light and tasty!
We followed the beef with some Marbar Fish, which is cubed and flash-fried before it finishes cooking in a light, peppery curry with lots of vegetables. We ate this dish with the rice that came with it. I loved the texture of the fish, which was soft but crispy on the outside from the flash fry. It wasn’t hot at all and had a sweetness to it from the tamarind in the curry.
Next up was Chicken Chettinad, a chicken dish with a spicy curry that’s made with yogurt, turmeric, onions, garlic, red chilies, and more. We had it with some plain naan, and it was outstanding and full of lots of mouthwatering flavors.
The next dish we tried was Uttapam, which is a thicker Indian pancake that is made with a batter of rice and mungo beans, with vegetables cooked into it. We had it with the chutneys and sambar from earlier, which make this such an amazing dish.
And lastly, we had Carrot Cake, which was made of mashed carrots, cashews, and raising, and maybe a puree. It was hot and absolutely delicious!
Of all the dishes, my dad and I both agreed that the Marbar Beef was out of this world! If you’re ever in Miami, be sure to come to Ayesha Fine Dining in Midtown for some of the best and most authentic Indian food in the city!

Superb exploration of India food!!! Go try homemade Indian food. It tastes 100 times better than restaurant food. And also hundreds of varieties we cook at home. As a South Indian, I make more than 100 breakfast items 👍.

I liked the fact that you said, Indians eat with one hand!!! Tats the first time I heard any non-indian acknowledging that there are certain ways n traditions every community follows..
Puneet Desai intersting
True
They need to hire you for the next incredible India ad😃. You have seen more of India than I have and I live in Pune, India. Your pronounciation of all the city names - spot on👍
Guys, you dont eat the chillies in the dishes!!! its just been put in there for the flavours to sweep through while cooking up... Please remember all the masala (whole) and chillies that come out in your Indian dish are not to be eaten up!.. We Indians treat them simply as grub on a dish, you just pick and put them out! thats it... for christ's sake dont eat them!!!
It's so nice to see a foreigner dining with his father . It's common in India . But not so outside . Love you man , all the way from India !
Your dad seems such a nice and positive person. The affection you both share for each other is so nice to see.
The taste of food closed Dad's eyes and brought him to heaven.
So happy you were able to spend time with your dad, David? Hope you get a chance to do so again real soon! He seems like a real nice man...He’s fortunate to have such a travel minded son, and one that includes him! Curious, does your dad travel as well! Not like you, just in general?
xo

Having seen how foreigners react to our cuisines, I am starting to think we don't appreciate our foods enough.

Davidsbeenhere, thanks for your vlog on Indian food in India, Florida. I love the enthusiasm and fondness for Indian food you and your father exude. Your father has already hinted at going to India to try out the foods there. When you do take your father, please include your mother. I heard how your mother has been converted to eating Indian. I'd love to see her positive reactions. I enjoyed the Brazilian Steak house and the $6.5m property listing in Pinecrest, Miami, Florida, US. Keep up the good work.
