Inline Fabrication Flush Mount Quick Change Base Plate: inlinefabrication.com/collect...

I finally got the chance to upgrade my firearm maintenance/knife sharpening/project bench. I tend to get a lot of projects rolling all at once and real estate is always a premium. To me, the most important feature any work bench can have is the Flush Mount Quick Change Base Plate by Inline Fabrication. Don't just think of Inline Fabrication as a reloading related product. It's more! It' a tool with multi-functions. Anybody that works with wood (especially if your skilled with a router) or someone who works on automotive projects, knife sharpening or anything, this is a quality piece of equipment that will enable you to more wisely use your bench space and I highly recommend it.
While installing two Flush Mount Quick Change Base Plates onto my bench I made a simple video. If you have questions, feel free to join www.76highboy.com/ and ask. Below are a few tips to help you install this piece of equipment onto your bench. I hope this helps.
    God bless,
    Highboy
    1) Take your time and enjoy the process.
    2) Route the bench so the edge of the plate cantilevers over the edge of the bench exactly 1 1/2".
    3) Route EXACTLY 7/16" deep into the bench.
    4) Unless your plate was already mounted with existing holes, it is best to route first and then drill.
    5) If your holes were already drilled, simply nail your jig to the bench before unfastening the plate from the bench.
    6) Measure twice, cut once!!!

Very clean job! Love Inline Fab stuff and have a lot of it. I installed 4 of these on two benches, all with the spacer plate. After a year I needed one flush to move a powder measure on a stand across the edge of the plate in a tight space. I only have a full sized plunge router (need to get a small one like yours!) and it was near a corner with no space for the router base on one side, so instead I used a 2” hole saw bit with depth stop and then a chisel to clean out the mortise, and it turned out fine. A couple of 1/16” overruns from the chisel but sawdust mixed with wood glue blended those in. It definitely took longer, but just saying anyone can do it and you don’t necessarily need a router. My bench is 3” thick plywood so final install with supplied wood screws from Dan at Inline Fab was fast. Thanks for a cool how-to video. 👍

Clean Job! That void jumped from top left side to right side! I ordered the spacer plate for mine.

I did 3 of these on my bench for some flexibility. I can move my different presses and vise to whatever positions I need for the task. Also have the mount for my case prep center.

Yeah man this worked really well, got very even router cuts by making the frame smaller to support the router collar that you made. Did it in 2 accurate layers. Great video. Helped a lot.

Looks great Highboy, you've convinced me I need to do the same. Makes a ton of sawdust tho.

Cleaner install than my hack router job. Looks great HB. If I may ask, what is the purpose of the notch out of the wood in the top corner?

@UncleCaffeine He said on the livestream it was for holding screws and gun parts, since this was his gun-taking-apart bench.

Any particular router bit that you used? I stapled in place the frame but was wondering what kind of bit you used? How did you not go beyond the edges with the router?

Did you use a flush trim top bearing router bit?

Why the notch up in the corner? Is that a magnet?
