    I was reading a book about early Soviet computers, ans surprised to learn that the "Silicon Valley" of the USSR was in fact around Kiev. The Ukrainians seem to be a clever lot. For example Antonov is a Ukrainian company. When this is all over, Ukraine could be a fabulous addition to the EU. I can easily imagine Airbus having a major operation there.

    There have been long range drones for a long time. The US and others have been innovating these since the late sixties with the tagboard series. What is unique here is that Ukraine has been rapidly innovating drones for specific battlefield scenarios with a great deal of speed and cleverness without huge budgets, even to the point of basically using small planes and developing unique sea drones. Remarkable adaptations really. What people forget though is that under the Soviet Union Ukraine was an important area of weapons development and manufacture. This is really nothing new for Ukraine but the speed with which they are innovating in war time conditions with minimal budgets is quite remarkable.

    We have not given Ukraine any long range missiles. ATACMS are short range tactical missiles only. 300km is not long range when the talk is about missiles. But please let's us give the Ukrainians some longer range missiles. The US has lots of outdated Tomahawks that could be given instead of going to the scrap heap. Europe and the UK must urgently address our lack of medium and long range missiles in general. We have nothing except for the very small nuclear deterrent.

    Short range missile range "BEGINS" at 300km.

    Including naval drones judging by the news this morning. Ukranian naval drones have shot down and destroyed one Russia helicopter and have damaged another near Crimea.

    • @trevorroberts9584
      @trevorroberts9584 2 дня назад +7

      @joewoodchuck3824 Indeed. However, Ukraine has fitted anti-air missiles to sea drones, i.e., naval drones. These were used to destroy one Russian helicopter and to severely damage another. It is believed that the helicopters were attacking the Ukranian naval drones.
      I believe that his would be a first in naval warfare. An naval enemy air asset was destroyed by a remotely piloted boat (a drone boat) over the sea.
      It opens up a whole new area for Ukraine. The Russian Black Sea surface fleet has withdrawn from the Western Black Sea, and now Russian naval air assets are in serious danger whilst patrolling/fighting at sea.

Long range drones existed before this war, they didn't mention that fibre optic drones, they said ruble is weakened but forgot to mention how it actually grew stronger at one point during the war and managed to stay consistent with all the million sanctions, and they didn't mention that there are people in Donbass who do not want to be governed by Kyiv

    The Ukraine and by association the West are being steered by the aggressor into a position where a large-scale
    conflict between both major strategic backing powers of this contest for control of governance over specific parts of the local geography becomes inevitable as by then the true nature of the contest of values will be plainly obvious to even the most conciliatory appeasers of authoritarianism. On a different though related issue over the period of the conflict, my concerns for unintended consequences of the problem have only grown more intense. A large part of my fears is related to the clear imbalance of powers between the parties. The US is the clear winner in any comparison of military potential. I am wary of encouraging a sense of desperation in the minds of the Russian leaders. What kind of things are desperate people likely to do if they judge themselves to be in desperate circumstances?

And, regarding fighters, your Su-57 was shot down, supposedly your most advanced, 5th gen fight. It turned out to have a radar signature more than 1000 ties a real stealth fighter. The Russians now significantly outnumber Ukrainian drone teams, especially with developments in fibre optic guided drones immune to jamming and EW interference.
