  • Recent discoveries in the Baltic Sea have escalated concerns about Russia’s hybrid warfare tactics. Finnish investigators identified drag marks linked to a suspected Russia-connected vessel following significant damage to undersea power and data cables. These incidents raise urgent questions about the limits of provocation and NATO’s readiness to respond. Joining us today on TVP World to unpack the military and strategic stakes is Ben Hodges, the Former Commander of U.S. Army Europe and Africa.

  • @atklm1

    In addition of missing anchor, the ship was above the electric cable when the blackout transpired. Turva is heavy ship that could tow an ocean liner on ice, and it had the military helicopter, that police swat-team used to mount the ship, and were tasked to storm the bridge. They were heavily armed and prepared to face enemy commandos. There were none, but there was no way that this ship is going anywhere after this borderline *act of war*. They were going to be seized, either with these two patrol vessels, or with real warships if need be. We’ve been exemplary in our patience, now was time to act.

      Had the tanker not changed course on command the officials stated that they were prepared for other methods, although they did not spesify what those would have been. I wonder would the coast guard vessel pushed the tanker off its course by force or would it just have been boarded right then and there. In any case, this was well played by the authorities.

    • @atklm1
      @atklm1 2 дня назад +9

      @@herptek After all previous antics from Russia, and after Sweden let them go away last time, should this tanker went again its merry way without nobody able to do anything but say in EU tables that ”Oh, what a terrible misfortune 😱” like previous times, it would’ve been humiliating not only to the Republic of Finland, but making a fool out of the entire NATO alliance as well. I think we did the bare minimum here to send a message. And it’s always nice that it was officially a police operation, and did not creep into a military one, albeit defence forces were ready to step in and provided locational and logistical (mainly helicopters) support.

      Theatrics worth an Oscar by the finns. That ship was on Finnish waters. That's why the could board the ship. Capten and the crew on that ship was very cooperative with Finnish authorities. The Finns could have boarded that ship in a friendly and normal boarding by putting a vessel next to that ship. but Finnish authorities choosed a very hostile and bad behavior instead of a friendly one. The difference between Russia and NATO here is something that isn't clearly discussed in this video. Russia pokes around, draws red lines that don't matter. The west cannot act in that manner, for numerous reasons (international law is still important to the west, despite Russia and China pissing all over it), the west consists of democracies with populations that will not appreciate random poking the Russians without a proper strategy (even if they think they might right now). When the West does act, however, it is with much more thought about the end game than when Russia does it. When the West acts, it's going to be 1) Consequential 2) Long-term damaging for Russia 3) Short-term boring to anyone who wishes for a bit of quick retribution 4) As non-violent as possible as to not risk NATO lives.

    He's right and I've been saying this for 2 years now. Russia should be worrying about what NATO might do and not the other way around. The membership of NATO is prone to a complacency formula, security through unity where every country feels they can do LESS than they would be doing if they weren't in NATO (including shrinking the size of their own armed forces). Now we have a new member, Sweden, that hasn't fallen into this complacency thinking yet, stepping out to take pro-active action only to be surprised when the other members think that's a bit ballsy..!! We should all be like Sweden, which is exactly like we used to be..!!

Means Russian apartments, gold watches, yachts, ships, warships, cars, submarines, transiting reactor parts, trains, potatos, everything. Failure to comply will mean problems with some of Finland’s 900.000 troops arriving on Globemaster aircraft. Been able to hobble Russia at low cost. Whilst people in Europe are generally poorer and less optimistic than a few years ago partially to do with the coronavirus aftermath. As matters stand apart from stray fire in Poland and Romania no conflict damage in Europe. Whilst Russia nuclear weapons protects it from being treated like Serbia Iraq Libya etc Ukraine is with NATO support is clearly not deterered by Russia and it's nuclear weapons which begs the question of what utility they have if can't actually be used the fear element fades. Thus Europe and NATO have been able to corral Russia at low cost although Ukraine is paying a hard price for this

      EU weapon stocks are low.
      Russia showed the world that NATOs best weapons are useless against a Peer adversary.
      Russia re -routed energy supplies to East and global South.
      BRICS expansion continues
      Global majority increased trade and economic relationship's with Russia via BRICS, SCO, CSTO.

    • @charlesburgoyne-probyn6044
      @charlesburgoyne-probyn6044 2 дня назад

      Whilst NATO weapons have been destroyed by the Russian military in Ukraine. Far more Russian weapons have been destroyed by NATO weapons in Ukraine. Putin miscalculated in by attacking Ukraine which is being heavily backed NATO whose territories are out of bounds to Russian military action in essence a giant safe haven for Ukraine although it does think and act like it has command of resources within supporting nations it still can call upon a vast amount of resources . Other countries can buy Russian oil and gas but it forces Russia to sell at a discount. As for Europe besieged by masses of Africans and Asians the volunteering numbers for Ukraine from Europe historical population are actually rather low despite propaganda otherwise. Also the numbers of people volunteering for the military in NATO countries has fallen so much that conscription may have to be reintroduced such as the UK where it has been a point of pride for decades to have a volunteer only military. Quite simply the historical population has little desire to fight for a country which treats them with contempt with agenda of multiculturalism and wokery etc. This is more corrosive than the fear of getting killed is the sense of not having a country worth defending and have been riding on the glory of how we beat Hitler and those Nazis past it's use by date..
      The war will force Russia to move on from 1941 -45 jingoism and Ukraine about the famine of the 1930s indeed excessive going on about past glories and wrongs is often a harbinger of impending conflict! As for energy and security the age old conundrum of a countries main ally being one country and trade partner another and the two factors will inevitably clash. Hence the locking out of Russian energy from Europe which began years before the Russian invasion of Ukraine yet almost all of Europe being part of the USA led NATO alliance meant for an inevitable choice. It's unfortunate that atlanticism which seeks to build a wall across the flatlands of Russia where the ancestors of many Europeans migrated from and a bridge across the deep and turbulent Atlantic has been able to succeed and destroy the optimism of the end of cold war. As for war why do countries refrain or go to war? A main reason to refrain and inhibitors is trade if relationships are good why ruin it with war . If trade collapses then there is less to loose and the inhibitions against going to war diminish. Thus Russia is mad to try and restore the Soviet Union indeed under Putin's office relationships between Russia and former USSR states has fallen even nations such as Armenia so favourable to Russia when he took office are now disillusioned with Russia whose hypocrisy and duplicity has led to a reassessment of sentiments. Indeed in trying to restore the Soviet Union Putin has accelerated the decline of its legacy.. However Ukraine is being played by the west as mentioned earlier apart from stray fire Europe hasn't had the pain of war of which it fuels in Ukraine and the Europe (white Christian) they wish to participate in fully Faded away sometime between the fall of the Berlin wall. For example a Ukrainian teenage girl in Sweden was raped less than a week after arriving at an apartment by a Somali man. In Birmingham a woman a Ukrainian woman decided to go back being surprised by the numbers of non white people. I know someone who said that Ukrainian schoolchildren in the UK were commenting about it not being like this in Ukraine about the ethnic demographics of the UK. Thus they are having a reality check of their own just like Russia who had been rather arrogant over the last ten years especially is facing its own reckoning on the battlefield of Ukraine . The problem Russia has is if there is ceasefire instigated by Donald Trump, sanctions will remain until Russia withdrew from internationally recognised Ukrainian territory it would need to bend Keev - Ukraine, Brussels - EU and NATO, and London and Washington - UN and NATO to its will to legalise it's conquests which seems most unlikely since it hasn't even bent Keev to its will so far , indeed it's a farce to declare annexation on lands it doesn't even control.
