#askGMBNtech Just topped up the sealant on one of my rigs, but don't remember the make i put in in the first place - question: will mixing different sealants trigger it? And are there combinations where we get away with it?! Anyone know?!
#askGMBNTech Is "Dynaplug" a safe product to use for fixing punctures? The steel top of the plug will sit on the inside of the tube. Doesn't this damage the inside of the rim on big impacts, even damaging the rimtape?

With sealant filled tubes, I found unless you find and remove the thorn (and often they break off at the surface of the tire) it will keep reopening the wound in the tube so even sealant won't fix it.
I for real ride every day on the mountain and getting 1 to 2 punctures a year with inner, no complains about them, easy to repair, cheap to change, and no maintenance at all
I ordered some from the UK site after reading through these comments but but sceptical as I’ve asked a few questions and no ones got back to me. Has anyone had any issues with the Tannus Armour uk site?
I solved the punctures with the internal foam armour + an inner tube with sealant. I don't even have to check the pressure for weeks a time. Before I managed to puncture the tubeless setup two times.
Tubeless, Cush Core, and 120 tpi tires is my preferred setup. Stands Dart as a backup. Even if all those systems fail, I can still get home without destroying my rims due to the Cush Cores.
I’ve found that filling my tires with custard not only prevents punctures, but also makes a lovely little squelching noise as you blast down the trails 🥳
My last big discovery was the Specialized rim tape which is just a glue less loop with a hole for the valve that you span around the rim like cushcore. This worked so perfectly smooth for me...
Tubes for life!!! Don't need the mess and headache of tubless along with low pressure slugish feel. My friends with tubless have way more issues then I've ever had with tubes.
If you are running tubes, instead of inserting sealant into the tubes (which is not a bad thing in any way), try tyre liners instead. I haven't had a puncture in 10 years and ride in South Africa where thorns are all over the place.
This guy know, your exactley correct. Lots of money be made in tubless though, its cool hahahhaha. Good liner all you need. A barrier between tube and tire. So easy
Rims sadly arent compatable with tubeless so i bought tubes with schrader valves and bought tubeless sealant So far it have proven effective against sand spurs and more effective and lighter than liners to boot!
Inner tube 'slime' never worked for me and my mate. Just pissed everywhere and made changing the tube a pain! Tubeless never appealed to me despite so many folk saying its best thing since sliced bread! Experience with sealer in tubes put me off plus the heath robinson type of sealing with tape which just doesn't feel right. Now waiting my Tannus Armour insert for tubed tyres. I was so skeptical of tubeless. Luckily for me you are praising the tubeless setup so much that I decided to try it. And I love it! It's tricky the first time, but it's totally worth the effort. And don't cheap out on tires, they are quite literally what keeps you rolling on a bike. It's the most important component of all of them.
Tire liners + inner tubes can go a long way. I'm not racing most of the time, so any detriment to tire suppleness or rolling resistance is irrelevant and can be compensated with better riding skill and awareness of limits.

Hmm, I run 60psi and tubes with slime in there. The only time I had a puncture was when a big rusty staple made 2 big holes, it actually went down but so slowly that I ride 5 miles home before pulling out the staples at which point the tyre did start going down faster but I pumped it up more and left the holes at the bottom where more sealant was and it fixed itself, still ok a year later. Obviously 60psi is not very subtle to ride on lol but I do have full suspension and a gel seat and I'm no serious downhill rider.
Soon as I went tubeless I got my first flat after landing awkwardly on a small jump. Made me fall off the bike. Liquid everywhere. Sucks changing a flat on dirt trail with all that sticky liquid everywhere on the tire and tube.
Personally I've had nothing but problems with tubeless. Ran them with loads of sealent, decent tyres but would continually get punctures and they wouldnt seal. Ended up sticking tubes back in as couldn't afford to waste tyre with plenty tread left on them

Currently waiting for my current tires wearing out so i can go tubeless with the next one. I get spikes every other ride, it's really annoying :D
I haven't gotten a puncture in almost 5 years... I use 2 inner tubes in each wheel hahahaha. I don't really care about weight that much, and punctures suuuck so to me, eliminating punctures completely justifies it. (still susceptible to pinch flats if you're not careful tho) I gut a used tube and place it between the new one (that holds the air pressure) and the tire, effectively having a tube with double the thickness. FIY: I ride a cross country hard tail on some gnarly-ish stuff sometimes, if that's important .
I have got my last flat about 3 years ago. I just run maxxis double down/dh or michelin dh casing tyres. (assegai/dhf/dhr2/hr2/shorty/dissector/dh22/dh34) Stans tubeless sealant or if its super rough the race sealant. Combined with some decent wheels (for example dt swiss e1700/ex1700/ex511). With the right tyre pressure for me: Front: 22-25 Psi, Rear: 23-26. Also the suspension has to be dialed. (helps with line choice and dampens the hardest hits. All mentioned points above had eliminated flats for me so far.
I think at times we put a bit too much emphasis on weight. Yes, if you are racing seriously XC. I understand but for the 99% of us... we just don’t notice the difference of a few grams.
Ive ran both tubless and a tube in my wheels and my opinion running a tube is cheaper then running a tubless set up . I dont mind the weight of the of the tubes .
i havent gotten a puncture in 2 years, even with low rather pressure (1,5/1,7 bar), hitting sharp stuff with accelerated 90kg... and i don't choose lines, lines choose me. i guess maxxis DD casing does the trick. i think it's worth the extra kg of rotating mass. you get used to it plus i have almost no damage on my rims. i will never go back to trail casing.
I got nearly 20 years out of a standard size green tube stretched out in a Gazzaloddi 3.0 tyre. When I removed it (not due to a flat) the tybe had deformed round the valve like an hourglass (yet filled the gap so there was never a hollow. I got a year out of my Giant Faith before last weekend when I dropped a skate park 3x1' step... 3rd time unlucky... then 3 days later, down a 2x20step in town I made it home hut flat the next morning.... Avoiding sharp edge concrete steps may be an idea. q8D
I'm thinking about using tire inserts for my tubeless setup. I was thinking that maybe inserts can't fit tight enough onto the tires tread area with a tubeless setup and that tubes are needed for the inserts to stay onto the inner tread wall of the tire. It's good to know Doddy uses inserts for his wheels.
To anyone riding tubes still what you can do is put about 1-2 layers of gorilla tape or any tape to cover the top inside of the tyre so you have extra room between the tyre and tube then find an old inner tube in your size and cut it through the middle of the tube itself cut the valve out and put your new tube into the old tube and make sure that the old tube is lined up right which can give you sidewall protection not much but just enough, put everything back together pump it up to your pressure then hopefully you’ll never get a puncture from something in the tyre
Great vid! Can I use tube sealant in tube and also use tubules tire sealant on inside of tire for added pretection? so it protects against debris from getting into tire then also seals up tube from inside if debris does end up getting through the tire?
I guess airless tyres are out of the question. Currently, I don't believe they make anything larger than a 40mm and they certainly don't have the nubbies. The ride quality is not forgiving enough, but I am hopeful that in the future things will change. In the meantime it's tubless with inserts.

why dont they make a foam that is put into the innertube to whatever pressure you want and after a few minutes it sets, but not hard, just to the type pressure.
#AskGMBNTech - I bought a beginner MTB (Cannondale Trail 7) earlier this year, not knowing whether or not I would like mountain biking. But now I would like a mountain bike that is a bit more capable. Should I upgrade my bike or sell and buy a new one? Upgrading will teach me how to fix it myself, but probably cost more than buying a new bike. What would you recommend? Off cause I will watch and rewatch any relevant GMBT Tech videos
Because 35mm is smaller than 38mm? Just kidding. Most likely they have to go smaller to do the much longer tubes and they end up stiffer despite the smaller size. But that is a good question. Hhhhmmm...
If you run tubeless tires. ( I have new bike, reading all kinds pros n cons. but if running tubeless and have flat out on trail, how the hell do you get the bead to snap back on if it goes completley flat an you have to plug it? Or do you just throw a tube in it? Think im gonna keep running tubes with Tannus armour, Idont care about extra weight that much. )
Since switching to tubeless about 6 years ago I am yet to have a puncture. Before that I would regularly get pinch flats. I even buckled a rear wheel, several broken spokes, but tyre did not flat. Go tubeless with cushcore and that's all you ever need.
Decent sealant... that is *not* mucoff! I’ve got mucoff valves... awesome, mucoff sprays, but their sealant has failed on me where as stuff like stans has not. Maybe it’s just me, but I’ve not had much luck with their sealant

Rolling resistance, as it takes more force to deform the tire

#AskGMBNTech - I bought a beginner MTB (Cannondale Trail 7) earlier this year, not knowing whether or not I would like mountain biking. But now I would like a mountain bike that is a bit more capable. Should I upgrade my bike or sell and buy a new one?
Upgrading will teach me how to fix it myself, but probably cost more than buying a new bike. What would you recommend? Off cause I will watch and rewatch any relevant GMBT Tech videos
#AskGMBNTechs this is helpful for me
Since I've set up my tyres tubeless properly I've never had punctures ever again! The best "re- invention of the wheel" in the 21st century!
#AskGMBNTech Why is the Zeb (38mm stanchions) thicker than the Boxxer (35mm stanchions)? I have been confused about this for a while. Love the show!
Because 35mm is smaller than 38mm?
Just kidding. Most likely they have to go smaller to do the much longer tubes and they end up stiffer despite the smaller size. But that is a good question. Hhhhmmm...
Maybe because the zeb is a newer Model and heavier? Wouldn't be suprised if the next generation of boxxer will be 38mm or even 40mm
@@michael_the_chef thats what i was thinking
@GMBNTech
Did you quit the ASKGmbnTech sereis on Monday?
Downhill? Tubes are must, not optional.
If you run tubeless tires. ( I have new bike, reading all kinds pros n cons. but if running tubeless and have flat out on trail, how the hell do you get the bead to snap back on if it goes completley flat an you have to plug it? Or do you just throw a tube in it? Think im gonna keep running tubes with Tannus armour, Idont care about extra weight that much. )
co2 and tubless is no problem?
I heard that it depends on the sealant
Since switching to tubeless about 6 years ago I am yet to have a puncture. Before that I would regularly get pinch flats. I even buckled a rear wheel, several broken spokes, but tyre did not flat. Go tubeless with cushcore and that's all you ever need.
Decent sealant... that is *not* mucoff! I’ve got mucoff valves... awesome, mucoff sprays, but their sealant has failed on me where as stuff like stans has not. Maybe it’s just me, but I’ve not had much luck with their sealant
Easy slime in the tube and don't run the pressure to low
#AskGMBNTech - Doddy can you fix dents in alloy frames?
Doddy, offtopic. Does your helmet and the visor have same colour?. Mine, the visor is slightly brownish the helmet is grey. Thank you
Slamming a tree middle of black diamond trail is one way to get a puncture.. and bend the wheel🤣
@AskGMBNTechs I tried setting my bike up as tubeless I had followed everything correctly and my rear tire is still not sealing why might that be?
