James, one of the things that really draws me to your tutorials is that you use the default brushes that come with Procreate rather than trying to push custom brush packs to make specific art projects. For those of us just starting in digital art, it's one less technical item to worry about so that we can focus on the techniques, which I must say you cover extremely well. Thanks for showing us how the magic works.
What a great video. Love that you use the default Procreate brushes and show us how tweaking, whether by size, opacity, grain or Gaussian blur can get you some amazing effects. Love your tutorials as I always learn something. Thanks for sharing your talents!
Interesting! I’ve done a few of your tutorials and thought I needed a little more practice on the brushes. Found this tutorial and kinda knew what brushes you’ll pick. But it was great to finally see why you use these particular brushes. Excellent!
Thanks for that, I use syrup soft brush and the sketching brushes a lot, I had tried the blur but was not really sure of it’s use, I also did not know you could reset the original brush back to itself. I created another folder, and duplicate any brushes I use and change all the time, named it Most used. It saves me looking for them again. Honey and mercury and 2 other brushes I use a lot ! Very helpful, so thank you !
What a wonderful video! I really enjoyed listening and watching as you described how and why you use these brushes. Thanks an hope you feel better soon!
Thanks for this video very informative and I was looking for something like this and you are right to the point content is precise. Please do more of this video's for us along with your tutorials 😊
These are some of my favourite default brushes too James! I really love the Rainforest & Leatherwood brushes and use the a lot in my artwork ❤️ I’ve just subscribed to your channel, I thought I’d done that long ago because I do watch lots of your tutorials ❤️ sending you best wishes from Australia 🇦🇺
I’ve used Pandani (from the Inking category) for almost all of my coloring since I picked up Procreate 5+ years ago, and using it is honestly agony at times, because my art is way more digital cartoon-y than digital painting-y, but it gives everything a lovely texture and I’m too used to it to change now 😂
Really interesting 5, thanks for sharing James, I think i'd have the Painting brush "Flat Brush" in my 5, its great for making art in the style of World of warcraft and/or Hearthstone.
Thank you for yet another great video they are all very much obliged. I am curious I was looking for a video like your landscapes with the great explanation but of your sci-fi art I'm very interested to try and understand how you put together some of those images what goes through your mind the thought process and start to finish but I can't seem to find any. I'm sure that it would be probably cut into a few videos because 1 video would be just too long. Anyways if you have already done that please point me in that direction and again thank you for all the time you are putting in to create and share.
I’m brand new to procreate, and I’m trying to make some geometric abstract art! I’m struggling to find a brush that can create a shape, like a circle, without a tapering effect. All of my shapes I’m trying to make have this little overlapping lip where I connect the starting point with the ending point. How can I avoid this? Is there a specific brush or is it a specific setting in the tapering section? I feel like I’ve tried to experiment with the settings but I think I’m missing something! Thanks!
I really enjoy your tutorials. I’ve noticed my results with the brushes you use mine doesn’t preform the same. Sometimes it will work only going up and when I got down it disappears. (ex. With hartz brush) I don’t know if it’s the fact I’m using a generic nib on my Apple Pencil or if settings of brushes are off. Any suggestions?
