In this video I review the new 2021 Milwaukee brushless battery powered cordless 18v M18 Fuel string trimmer. This model features the easy load trimmer head, is powered by a brushless motor, comes with an 18v 8Ah battery, includes the Quik-lok attachment system, and can cut a 14" to 16" swath.
Make sure you watch this before you buy.

I just bought the Milwaukee set up about a month ago and I’m so pleased with it. I used all of my attachments about 3 times already except for the string trimmer which I used a whole lot and I’m very pleased with their performance. The Milwaukee equipment is a little heavier than what I expected but they used a lot of metal where it counts. As a retired mechanic, I see the quality they put into their workmanship. I didn’t want to go with the EGO since they only make yard equipment and I wanted more usage out of my batteries since I’m changing to a new battery platform. I’m going to purchase a Milwaukee blower next for my yard tool arsenal.
Getting up there in age so I decided to try the battery tools and the Milwaukee satisfies my needs completely. My Shindaiwa, Murayama and Echo string trimmers has served me well, still going to keep them as they are still getting the job done. Although the Milwaukee hedge trimmer attachment is a little heavy, it’s the bomb when I trim my decorative trees in the front yard, very easily trims them and hardly any battery usage, great tool to have.
I love the “you’ll never see a Milwaukee lawnmower” and they now they will release one on April 1st. They took that comment personally lol good review!
Thanks mate - I guess I should say that "Milwaukee will never make a flying car"
@@Kitearmy I worked in Milwaukees engineering group, and have been giggling for months.

@@Kitearmy and Milwaukees mower is the most powerful battery mower 💀
I intentionally waited years for Milwaukee M18 mower to come out. I skipped Gen1 and will be buying spring 2023 model. Bought the string trimmer with the hedge attachment yesterday 8/30/22. BTW I have had the Ego backpack blower for 3yrs and its OK 4 out of 5 stars. I thought about buying the EGO mower but decided to wait for a commercial type mower similar to the M18. The EGO seemed too plastic-like and cheaply designed.
I had the ego and returned it after the 2 time putting on line the trimmer stopped putting line auto had to get up doing it by hand, got another one and after 2 weeks the lever on the adjustable grip broke, returned went with the fuel line and been a lot more happier and not one single problem
Cool - I like this trimmer second only to the EGO
I've been using Milwaukee battery tools for a good amount of time both at my job and home. Had my gas power trimmer quiet on me today so I figured I'd give this trimmer a try. Glad I did.
yeah - no reason to go back to gas
Great review Andrew! I appreciate the walkthrough on how to load the string. Anyway, I bought the M18 FUEL string trimmer a few weeks ago during a promotional sale at Home Depot. It included the string trimmer, rapid charger, 8.0 battery, and 1 inch hedge trimmer attachment for free. Ended up saving $180, so I’m pretty pleased. Should work well not only for string trimming/edging, but for trimming my 15 foot hedges. Still sitting in the boxes, but I need to get out there and put them to use soon 👍
Sure - thing - now get to work
The string loader is the same as Echo and has been around for ages and works the best. I would expect nothing less.
@@kickassclone75 All of these are a little different - and function differently
I just purchased my Milwaukee M18 because my Shindaiwa gas trimmer of 30 years couldn't be fixed because there are no primer bulbs for it anymore. I got my Milwaukee M18 for $249 with battery at a ma & pa hardware store.
It's heavy and my forearm felt like I bowled 50 games. My hand vibrated just as much as the Shindaiwa. It has all the power of my old gas trimmer and the battery had plenty of life to do my single home corner lot yard. It's a lot quieter of course and as of now I'm happy with the purchase.
Edit: After using my M18 string trimmer about 4 or 5 times over two months, I can give a better assessment.
Great power. Does exactly what my gas trimmer did. I save time, lots of time, with the convenient bump stock.
I have a cape cod, single home, in a city, with an oversized one car garage in the back of my yard A nice sized yard considering. My entire back yard is fenced in. I have about 30 - 40 minutes (closer to 40) of trimming during those bi-weekly to monthly runs.
Since the machine runs so well and actually fun to use (no more stops to rethread) I actually like doing the extra, like getting the long run of sidewalk into shape. The grass and dirt have broached over the sidewalk.
Thus far, I haven't made it to completion. I fall about 10 minutes short each time. Yes, I charge the battery to full. It's sort of embarrassing and certainly frustrating to run out of steam when just starting my front yard, coming down the home stretch.
yeah - i felt the vibration too
I bought the new ego trimmer thanks to your video. Happy Saturday!
Happy Weekend - my backyard is calling me today - nice clear weather!
I tried to find a trimmer that works for commercial lawn care for years and the Milwaukee was the first trimmer that did the job. My Milwaukee just finished its 2nd year of service with no issues. The reasons, for me, that made this trimmer work are:
- It spins counterclockwise, which is the norm for commercial trimmers. (Reviewers rarely mention this)
- It spins as soon as you press the trigger with no lag.
- It has variable speed which is great for trimming slowly around trees, plants, etc. Many electric trimmers are all or nothing.
- The head is easy and quick to load as you have shown.
- And it has a pretty wide cutting area.
- Has great power and run time. (I can trim 4-6 lawns on a 9AH battery)
Thanks for the review!
Very good points - though most trimmers at this level do have variable speed trigger
I have seen some bad comments about the duration of the 12 battery, does it really have power? and how long can you mow the grass with it?
@@Munoz05 It has power but not for long! Mine overheats, it's the first Milwaukee tool that I'm returning. If you NEED this kind of power for long duration unfortunately the only choice is still gas.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SAYING THIS!!! EVERY single reviewer has not talked about this, but it is the reason I returned my ego. Another thing that they did right was having the motor at the battery and not at the head. Which makes for a much more balanced tool.
@@cpufrost You’ve likely already returned your trimmer, but for anyone else who has that issue I’ve found that running smaller lighter string helps a lot. Also, while it works great for trimming lawns before mowing, battery trimmers don’t seem to work well for long stuff like fields, etc. :-)
Another great review!
Thanks mate!!!
Purchased this weed eater and used for the whole back yard I used 4 8.0 batteries to get it done all on rabbit speed and 2ft of none cut grass and some other thick wild plants . Solid power thru out
Any thoughts on the Milwaukee M18 DUAL BATTERY string trimmer? Please advise...Thanks.
Great review. thank you
Solid review, as always. The one thing I didn't care for is the comparison to other string trimmers. The Milwaukee Quik-Lok is a multi-attachment capable system. As such, it would also be beneficial compare it to other platforms' multi-attachment systems (e.g., Makita Couple Shaft or Ego Multi-head System). When you compare it to the Ego Multi-Head system, which comes with a 5 AH 56v battery,, you find that the same purchase is $379; more expensive than the Milwaukee. The weight is also more with the 5AH--though about the same with the 2.5AH; and you lose the auto-feeder and other Ego perks discussed in the video. I'd be curious how those The Milwaukee Quik-Lok compares to the Ego Multi-Head System, as those are more apples-to-apples comparisons. That being said, good to know about the Milwaukee high vibration. That is concerning. I'll check out your Ego Multi-system review to see if vibration is an issue there.
The Milwaukee turns counter clockwise-all debris is shot away from you.Ego turns clockwise, you end up with grass all over your pants and shoes and don’t forget the stones that can hit your face.
very helpful, thank for posting.
Glad it was helpful!
I'm happy with my Milwaukee string trimmer. If I did not own a bunch of Milwaukee batteries and tools, I would have gotten a ego.

As I'm watching this, there's a review for a Milwaukee lawnmower in my feed 😁
Just ordered it - so far only a few protos out there
I love my M18 string trimmer. I also love my Ego 650 blower.
M18 string trimmer is good - second only to the EGO (IMO)
You said you'll never see a Milwaukee mower, but got one coming in Q1 2022

I have 4 heads and they all tangle up inside. Have to restring them all the time. Two of them came with the two trimmers and Milwaukee gave me the other two. All four were tangled up right out of the box. Any suggestions. Can't get anywhere with Milwaukee anymore. They suck.
I have the ego chainsaw the ego Weedwhacker and the ego push now I love them both for all three
We all like decent head that's for sure. Good video.
I have the Milwaukee lawnmower with the 12Ah battery. Absolutely Love the lawnmower best on the market
I tested it - pretty good but the new EGO edged it out
Thanks for showing us
You bet!
Milwaukee in the shop and Ego in the yard for me as well..... Besides the chainsaw. I did get the Milwaukee chainsaw. Both M18 and M12.....
I also have some Ryobi
Why didn’t you compare the RY401150 vs LM2125SP. They are most similar in power and price ?
I agree. I'm a Milwaukee guy all the way except for OPE. A friend of mine got me hooked on the EGO multi head tool. Love it except for 2 minor things. OPE for me is EGO and Toro! Waiting for a review on the Toro 60V Super Recycler. Loved the appearance of R2!
Glad R2 did not go to waste! Yeah lots of fans of the Super Recycler - I want to test it so bad. Though I'm working on EGO vs Ryobi - dual blade right now
@@Kitearmy I can tell you the outcome of that one.... As for the multi head, great tool for the price I paid!

And Milwaukee released a mower and the reviews are stellar, besides the price, like makita 36v easily fix on an 18v platform 2 batts
I wonder when they are going to release the ride on
So, they did come out with a mower. Anxiously awaiting your thoughts on the review!

What's the battery of choice here? I've got an 8.0 and I seem to never get thru my 1 acre yard.
I hope Milwaukee makes a bike handle string trimmer for a long day with a blade option for brush cutting
EGO has one in their pro line
Careful with pushing to hard, the connection between my battery and the unit melted shut with a 8ah HO battery when using the trimmer :-O "used it too hard". Milwaukee in Sweden wont fix it for free so not sure if i even should fix it since it seem to be a normal issue 😲
Can you use disk for bushes?
I bought one of these from Amazon. It was lost in shipping, and we were refunded. It ended up arriving today a week later, and it doesn’t have the bracket hardware to install the handle. 😬 I tried it out anyway, and it works great! I’m just having a hard time getting the string to come out. 😅
Looks like we will get another string trimmer shootout!

And fast forward to may 2022 and milwaukee has a mower. Wow didn't see that coming. Oh and it has the power of a 200cc lawnmower! And long run time......
True - but it just got beat by the EGO mower ($300 cheaper) - review coming this weekend
@@Kitearmy That's cool 😎 I just purchased all millwaukee. Thanks for the content. Like all new business owners you tube can be part of our education. I plan on buying a mean green 33" when my business grows.
Bought one returned it after 1 use. A 20C degree evening in 18 inch high grass on high power it cut power in half after 7 minutes and battery was hot. Switched it to turtle mode and by the 14 minute mark it would no longer cut. Took another 5 plus minutes before it would start to charge as too how. Maybe ok if you live innthe city with 4inch high grass to trim. Out in the country forget it save your $500 for a real trimmer. It also vibrates more than a stihl gasser.
Nem értem, minek kell zenét berakni a videóba? Én például kíváncsi lettem volna a gép hangjára.
I currently use this, has anyone else noticed it turning off? Does it get hot enough to safety itself off? I was using it for about 30 min straight and then it would just stop everytime I tried to use it.
I own the Milwaukee mower. Best mower I’ve ever owned
Good mower for sure. Got beat by EGO but still good
The $199 Ego doesn’t include the multi attachment option like the Milwaukee. If you get the multi attachment option with who it’s about $369 compared to the $299 Milwaukee option.
Yeah - but you also have to consider battery size and run times
@@Kitearmy there is 12 amp hour now. Also a mower that you said we would never see.
@@longwalkoffshortpeer Right - have you ever seen it
let me get this straight one of your down falls is an 18 volt battery isnt as powerful as a 36 volt powered thing that does the exact same job?
Milwaukee should make a mx mower and 20" big bore chainsaw
How long can u run on a 9ah battery?
I have Hitachi power tools for the shop, but I burned the drill up drilling holes in concrete, so all I have is the impact. I'm open to a new system. I bought an Echo 58v chainsaw because it had really good reviews - it works well, but the batteries are like $200+ (4ah = 232 wh)...about the same as the Milwaukee I guess when comparing WH to $. I don't want to get into a 3rd battery system, but I would like a blower and string trimmer. Should I: A) Convert all power and yard tools to one brand (Milwaukee or similar) or B) Go with Echo yard tools?
Please don't go with ECHO - one of the worst battery tools I have tested
I have a small yard. Thinking about getting this just for the convenience factor. My gas powered trimmer takes a few minutes to prime and start and it's honestly overkill. I legit have it on for a Max of 5 minutes whenever I use it lol..
I see this M18 blower on offer up for $130 all the time
This is a good trimmer - my second favorite to EGO
I just picked up the trimmer with a battery and charger for $180. Home Depot running sales!
I got a kit with the string trimmer, 8 amp hour battery, rapid charger and the leaf blower for $340 at home depot
Good deal
this is hilarious i just bought the milwaukee mower and it is a beast.
I got it too - not bad, but not the best
I got a Milwaukie mower...it's great
You said the battery was a 5 amp battery as you were plugging into the trimmer, when it was actually an 8 amp HighOutput battery.
I have seen some bad comments about the duration of the 12 battery, does it really have power? and how long can you mow the grass with it?
It's good equipment but IMO the RGO is better
I just ordered this today. It came with an 8.0ah and 5ah battery and charger for $299 then I got another kit with the hedge trimmer and leaf blower with two 5.0ah batteries. Altogether that's 3 x 5.0ah batteries and 1 x 8.0ah battery + 3 tools for $713 including tax and shipping.
Good deal
Will this perform on tall wild grass i.e not simply lawn grass? I intend on using on a offgrid property, thanks
it does overheat in harsh stuff
I use my quick lok an hr each time with the 12.0 and it still has 2 bars left. I remember first couple used it kinda vibrated but now it’s super smooth. You should reveiw the hart 40volt attachment trimmer.
Someday - I have a long to do list
Can you remove that guard?
I just finally trimmer I use first time since it to me I don’t feel that vibrations. Are you talking about?
They make a Milwaukee mower now lol
In other news, Milwaukee has an electric mower.
fake news
They definitely have the mower and snow blower
do they have a snow blower?
In early August 2021, Milwaukee confirmed that they'll release a 21-inch self-propelled M18 mower in 2022.
That sounds great - the more the merrier
Yes milwaukee is the best
This thing cost $690 here in Australia and that is without a battery. I nearly had to sell my kidney.
try EGO
I can't seem to find any deals on the EGO powerhead stuff. Much better pricing on the Milwaukee currently. How's run time and power with the 8ah compare to the 2.5ah 56v? They both seem to have the same build quality. Obviously, much better performance with the blower choices when going full EGO OPE. Also, the possibility of have a mower. Currently, pricing out the systems, the EGO commands a 30%+ premium over a similarly spec'd Milwaukee system of powerhead plus attachments plus blower.
Ego in high demand - very few discounts
Ego is not in high demand.. Home Depot kicked them out, and there’s several units of any Ego item at all my local Lowe’s. Go check a Lowe’s, or simply go with the Milwaukee!
@@hayden199516 Truth is EGO left Home Depot - 1)Loews sells more OPE 2)Home Depot would not let them sell on Amazon - sorry mate that is the future and Milwaukee is walking dead if they can't get on Amazon
@@Kitearmy my point exactly. Ego = homeowner. Milwaukee = professionals. If you don’t believe me look up blades of grass lawn care. He uses the Milwaukee when not using his Battery powered Husqvarna trimmer.
I understand you probably have some sort of business or financial gain with Ego, hence why they never put out a bad product, at least from your commercials. However, the Milwaukee is in a different class build quality wise, as I’m certain the Husqvarna is compared to the Milwaukee. You’re not going to get a professional tool for $200. You get what you pay for, and I’m certain you’re aware of that.
We’ll see in ten years who is around, or still relevant. Milwaukee isn’t going anywhere.
@@hayden199516 Thanks for your opinion BTW - they said the same thing about Tesla

Well for $1200 - so they have yet to sell one
Milwaukee could definitely make a mower - DeWalt and others just stick 2x 18v batteries in series for 36v, which is sufficient for mowing
yeah but those small packs get hot - lots of these will overheat while mowing and thermal shutdown
