@@LawnCareBusinessSuccess what size trim line where you using in the milwaukee string trimmer when doing the yard work? They mention dual lines (.080 or .095). Does it make a difference on the battery life? Do you noticed any difference on the two different line size?
I have a small orchard and have over 70 small valves that need clearing of weeds and your review is what I needed. I have the trimmer and am currently using a bunch of 5.0 batteries and will now upgrade to the 12.0. Thanks.
Thank you for the video. I just bought the Quik-Lok 18v Trimmer with 8ah battery. It is very powerful, especially on the fast speed, but if you plan to use it on thick, tall grass, you will only get 20-30 minutes on a charge. For me, that is OK because it still beats messing with a carb and fuel. For simple trimming around the house, the battery would last forever. I also bought the hedger attachment, and discovered that for tall grass trimming, it is much more efficient than string trimming. I've been out there clearing heavy, thick grass and briars for 30-45 minutes and only used half the battery capacity. Using the string trimmer attachment I would have blown through the battery for sure. Just thought it was interesting.
The grease fitting sold me. When my stihl dies I'll go with milwaukee. Having said that... my stihl has over 1.5hp.... it will cut concrete and asphalt. Not really good... but damn powerful. It'll be interesting when I switch. Although I haven't had a Stihl tool ever die on me, usually they just lose power or run rough so it may be 20 years.

Today is day 6 on tall weeds. I used the 8 amp first because it will works better like that sometimes. Then used 12 amp after that here where the weed eater will cut off every couple minutes. I like it but I haven’t used it day in and day out long term. Some people complain that they overheat and shut down. I haven’t had that happen but I guess it depends on the size properties your trimming. Mine are all small properties with 5 -10 minutes of trimming and edging. Thanks for watching.
For real? How much trimming needs to be done in the fall if the lawn is properly cared for all summer? I would like to see how it performs in spring or summer. When there was actually weeds needing trimmed
I think the point of the video was to see how the battery held up on weekly accounts vs the previous video I did with the 9.0 batteries. Of course in the spring for the first few cuts there is longer trimming time needed but generally for me after the third weekly cut things are under control and trimming is much less. Keep in mind all my clients are weekly and also generally small properties. Every situation is going to be different. Like I said though it is more of a comparison between the 12.0 and 9.0 on the same houses a week apart. Thanks for watching.
I have this trimmer its very good. I use the 9amp on it and it runs for a while. Using it on really heavy weeds it doesn't last forever. Maybe 30-45 minutes.. it has good power though. I did manage to bog it down in some really heavy stuff and overheat a couple batterys They blink when overheated and I had to wait 15-20 minutes before it was useable again. It was almost 90 degrees out and I was in the sun. I was basically trying to use the thing as a lawn mower and kept it full throttle for a long time. The overheating hasn't been a huge issue for me and I had extra batterys to swap out when it did happen but for someone running their tools really hard on a big job I could see it being a serious problem. I have used this trimmer at other times fairly hard with no issues overheating the battery. I'm happy enough with my Milwaukee outdoor power tools because I didn't want to keep gas stuff inside my apartment. I also have a lot of other Milwaukee tools so its great that the battery's are interchangeable
It’s a great unit. One of the reasons I really like it is because the M18 battery platform is so versatile. I don’t want separate batteries and chargers for each tool. Thanks for watching.
Any idea how much fuel a gas trimmer doing the same amount of houses would consume? I just ordered the trimmer, wondering how long it would take to "buy" the Milwaukee in fuel savings.
On the same set of houses with my echo srm-2620 trimmer, I fill it with fuel in the morning and can usually get through about 10 houses on one tank. My echo holds 21 fluid ounces of gas. So I’ll let you do the math on that. Thanks for watching.
Yes, based on the testing I did in this video during the fall. That sounds about right for the 12 amp hour battery. For the 9 amp hour battery that comes with the trimmer it would be about half a tank according to the tests I did on the same houses the week previously.
A year more or less. If you only look at the cost of the 12a battery and the power to charge it. But the battery probably isn't that good after 300+ full discharges
I live in a residential area and need a battery powered string trimmer so I don't annoy my neighbors. I am trying to decide on this Milwaukee or the Husqvarna. Any thoughts on the Husky?
Sorry, I personally have not used the husky but I have heard lots of good things about it. For residential use the Milwaukee would be great. The thing I probably like most about the Milwaukee vs some of the other brands is that the batteries are not proprietary to just the string trimmer. So you can use the same battery in a drill or impact or vise versa for example. Thanks for watching.
@@hanglooserecluse Please educate yourself on battery technologies. Imhymn is right. It is NOT good to allow your batteries to drop below 20% charge. Remember a battery is a CHEMICAL REACTION. When that reaction drops below a certain threshold, it begins to degrade that chemical reaction. Let's assume you have a battery that still has 100 charging cycles left, and you continue to drop it below 20%, you may only actually get 80 charging cycles before it no longer holds a charge.
Great video! Just a quick couple of questions. How did it feel vertical cutting? Pretty solid? No shakiness? Also have you found your line trimmer overheating during the day? Thanks in advance
It felt fine vertical trimming. No vibration or shaking and it did not overheat at all. The only thing I have had happen since making videos on this unit is the trimmer head has come loose while trimming a couple of times. I think because when it’s put it on the threaded shaft, there is no way to lock the shaft in place so you can tighten the head on good. So it ends up working it’s way loose over time.
@@LawnCareBusinessSuccess, I also have the Milwaukee trimmer- it came with a little steel rod that fits into a hole in the head to lock it. If you look at the head from the top, the hole is on the opposite side from the grease port..
You notice the difference if you hold a 12.0 in one hand and a 9.0 in the other, but on the machine it’s only slightly noticeable. I think it actually balances out the machine better. The Milwaukee trimmer is weighted differently compared to gas unit where the weight is at the top. The Milwaukee is heavier at the trimmer head side.
Thanks I was thinking of getting one. I am tired of dealing with gas save some money in the long run can get extra battery have hookup in truck so we can charge throughout the day
No problem. I plan to do the same tests in the spring when it’s peak growing season and see if that makes a difference as well. So stay tuned to the channel for that in the upcoming months.
I use the turtle setting. I find that It cuts better on this setting plus the battery and the string would last longer:) Maybe do same video but on turtle setting? :)
The trimming your doing doesn’t look like tall thick grass. Your basically just flying over it trimming very little. I plan on getting one but it will be worked very hard the hour I will use it to do my yard.
That’s because I was doing it on regular weekly lawn maintenance clients at the end of the season basically when I got the 12 amp hour battery. I did the same test the week earlier with the 9amp hour battery. This was just to see the difference between the different batteries in the same conditions on the same lawns. I plan on doing the same tests again in the spring heavy growth coming in the next few months. Thanks for watching.

When that reaction drops below a certain threshold, it begins to degrade that chemical reaction. Let's assume you have a battery that still has 100 charging cycles left, and you continue to drop it below 20%, you may only actually get 80 charging cycles before it no longer holds a charge.
Was that on high or low speed
That was on high speed. I am to use to gas trimmers to mess around with low speed on a battery powered unit. 😂 Thanks for watching.
Are these waterproof
I’m don’t know for sure, but I don’t think so. Thanks for watching.
Do you notice the difference in weight?
You notice the difference if you hold a 12.0 in one hand and a 9.0 in the other, but on the machine it’s only slightly noticeable. I think it actually balances out the machine better. The Milwaukee trimmer is weighted differently compared to gas unit where the weight is at the top. The Milwaukee is heavier at the trimmer head side.
Did you have it on turtle or rabbit
I had it on rabbit 🐇 In fact, I always have it on full power, rabbit setting. Makes it feel more comparable to a gas unit in terms of power.
I like that battery,👍 thank you for the video, awesome.🙋♂️🧰🔧🇺🇸
No problem. Glad you found value in the video. Thanks for watching.
Not as much as the 20v dewalt with a 12amp
Have you tested them both side by side?
@@LawnCareBusinessSuccess Yes I have both don't have 12amp batteries but have 9amp in both and the dewalt runs almost twice as long as the Milwaukee
Interesting. That is literally the first time I have ever heard anything positive about the Dewalt outdoor power equipment. I have always known about the positive reputation they have with drills and saws etc, so I’ve been surprised at all the negative comments I keep reading on Instagram about their outdoor power equipment. Good to hear a positive experience. Thanks for watching.
@@LawnCareBusinessSuccess The dewalt build quality is far superior to the Milwaukee, I dropped the Milwaukee and the motor cover cracked in half I've dropped the dewalt a dozen times with just a few scratches, also Milwaukee wouldn't warranty it because they claimed it wasn't used right
@@loucifer323 The Milwaukee 9AH use 18650 cell and DeWalt 9AH use 20700 cell. That's the difference on runtime.
HUGE PILE OF CRAP! On my second battery and it only lasts 5-10 minuets! If the battery has 3 bars out of 4 the charger says it is fully charged but is not.
Good video for testing purposes, but the job of weed wacking is HORRIBLE! Ur going the wrong way shooting "more" stuff into the beds!
Don't worry about weed wacking debris into the beds & training the grass to grow towards the sidewalks & beds.
