UK Government film featuring the Quick Reaction Alert force at Royal Air Force. RAF Lossiemouth in Moray, north-east Scotland is one of two RAF Quick Reaction Alert (QRA) stations which protects UK airspace. In general terms, RAF Lossiemouth protects the UK's northern airspace, and RAF Coningsby protects the south. Featuring Group Captain Jim Walls and Flight Lieutenant Zane Sennett.

Did nearly ten years total at Lossie leaving for the last time in 2000. I bet it looks and feels a lot different these days. Great unit, and great for the community.
Respect to them. As a year 10 student, after A levels I am going to apply to the Air Force as a pilot to achieve my dream of being on QRA.

I met Jim at RAF Leuchars when he was the Typhoon display pilot around 2007. Nice bloke. He also raced the Typhoon against Richard Hammond in a Bugatti in Top Gear.

I was in the cadets when i was younger and we done flying at RAF Leuchars, good times.
My dad was in RAF during war at Lossiemouth.
I have been in that hanger back in 2019 when I was in air cadets camp up there for a week

Unless you were Scottish then pretty much this is a base that you never put in for. You fill out what we call a dream sheet, which is three bases you most want to be and three that you do not want to be. All the jocks wanted to be in Scotland and the English not a bloody chance.
Things must have changed dramatically since I was in the RAF, nobody wanted a posting anywhere near where they grew up, the whole idea of joining up was to get away and see a bit of the world, I’m Scottish and I ended up getting postings in Wales, England and Germany, never wanted a posting in Scotland.

The Scottish up there are inherently racist towards the English. Most serving people who have a partner and family wouldn’t even entertain the idea as their partner would never get a job in the local community.
@@millennialtrucker6435 lived 3 years in Forres at Kinloss Barracks. What a load of bollocks. Never had a bit of drama on nights out in Elgin, Forres Nairn or Inverness. Locals were sound as fuck.

This base is a mainstay for Morays economy. Yet the SNP want Independence, which would leave this place closed.

There are a lot of things - facilities, services, businesses, etc - that would disappear in the nightmare event of Scottish independence. Meanwhile, their overspending is fooling a lot of their supporters.
Much like how they illogical want to close HMNB Clyde despite the fact it would devastate the local community/economy.

I don't remember anyone saying Russian aggression in the video, but Russians fly bombers up to and into the northern most part of British air space regularly, and they've been doing it for years. Who knows why they do it, but Lossiemouth has to scramble jets every time they do. But Russia got really butthurt when the uk sailed a ship past Crimea.
