  • Dramatic footage shows the moment Russian warplanes buzz a British aircraft carrier in a “threatening” manoeuvre.
    Vladimir Putin’s jets can be seen flying towards HMS Queen Elizabeth, whose crew scramble its own F-35 stealth fighters to confront them.
    The extraordinary video shows the crew warning the Russians to back off as the massive Royal Navy warship sails through the Mediterranean on its first deployment.
    The incident happened in 2021 but has now been revealed in a new BBC documentary The Warship: Tour of Duty that starts on Sunday the 22nd January.
    The £3.2 billion HMS Queen Elizabeth and its sister ship HMS Prince of Wales are the UK’s biggest ever warships.
    It was was near the Suez Canal on its way to the Far East on a seven-month tour when the Russian planes appeared.

      @@Big-Government-Is-The-Problem lol no. A supercarrier has never been sunk in a realistic combat scenario, partly because NATO does not engage in useless combat practice where the overpowered blue team wins easily. The carriers have only been sunk when enormous restrictions were placed on them, (loss of active radar, tight movement corridor, close to shore, no search aircraft, etc.)
      The defenses for a carrier consist of: Aircraft to do the initial intercept, long range AA missiles like SM-2 and SM-6, then medium range like the Sea sparrow and RIM-116's, then phalanx.
      And you'd need several hits from 500+ lb. munitions to actually sink it.

      Still considered the premier of world navies, hence why it is referred to as just ‘Royal Navy’, without qualification. It’s also one of only three blue water navies (the others being the US and France). It may not be the largest by number anymore, but it is still considered the most experienced, the most revered and the most famous. You can be sure that a Royal Navy warship would be far more competent in combat than any other. It is the godfather of all navies. The only navy that does not include it’s nation when addressed internationally. Royal Navy, nothing more, nothing less.

    • @simonyip5978
      @simonyip5978 Год назад

      @@OiOiSillyBoi that's just the convention from the past, in WW1 the French navy was called 'La Royale'. The German navy at the same time was called 'Kaiserliche Marine', many other navies have not included the name of the country in the official title.
      Even today the Chinese navy is called the 'People's Liberation Army - Navy', with no reference to the name of the country that it serves.
      And the Chinese PLA Navy is now the second strongest and second largest navy in the world. Far bigger than any European navy and equipped with very advanced and capable vessels.

    • @OiOiSillyBoi
      @OiOiSillyBoi Год назад +4

      @@simonyip5978 My point is that the Royal Navy is still internationally referred to as ‘Royal Navy’; it does not have qualification by nation unlike the others you mention in your comment. It’s naive to judge the strength of a navy by its size, you could have 300 paddle boats against 2 state of the art warships. Technologically, the Royal Navy are at the forefront of world navies. The PLA Navy vessels are not battle proven, nor does the nation have the same level of experience in maritime warfare. Frankly, an island seafaring nation, such as the UK, will always harness a more potent maritime force than a non-island nation. The UK’s primary strength is its naval capabilities. Let’s not forget during the carrier strike group the Royal Navy sniffed out Chinese submarines 2 weeks before they were due to cross paths. Likewise, China nor Russia, nor India can sail far beyond their coastal waters. They do not have the capacity to undertake blue water operations. Only Britain, France and the US possess navies of such ability. The UK can send a strike group to China’s back door, whereas they cannot do the same to the UK.

    • @Magezzz
      @Magezzz Год назад

    • @simonyip5978
      @simonyip5978 Год назад

      @@OiOiSillyBoi a quick look at the type of vessels operated by the PLA Navy will show how well designed and well built their navy actually is.
      The latest Type 055 and 052C/D/DL DDG and the Type 054A/B FFG frigates each cost around $800 million per destroyer and $400+ million per frigate. The submarines, aircraft carriers, amphibious vessels and support ships are of a similar standard, it is a fallacy that Chinese weapon systems and hardware is cheap and shoddy. They have the technology, the industrial capabilities and the money to design, develop and build very capable equipment in very large numbers.
      This is not my opinion, it's the opinion of the US naval intelligence, the Pentagon and those organisations and agencies that have access to information that we don't.
      When you say that the Royal Navy could send a task force to the South China Sea, it might be logistically possible, if the whole of the 2 carriers, 6 destroyers and 12 frigates and all of the support ships were available, but only in peacetime. The chances of any foreign naval task force being able to survive within 500 miles of the coast of China is increasing unlikely.
      The whole Chinese naval strategy is based on preventing the prevent US carrier groups getting within 1000km of China. The thousands of air launched/ship and submarine launched/land launched cruise missiles and ballistic missiles, plus the 70+ submarines/150 DDG, FFG and FSG surface vessels/etc are specifically tasked with defending the seaward approaches to China.
      So yes even though the Royal Navy might be able to reach the South China Sea, its doubtful how much of the fleet would ever get back home. I'm not sure if you are aware of how much China has advanced and how much they have devoted in the last few decades, but you might have been correct 20+ years ago, but I doubt that you are correct now.

      @@B_B_B_ Yes, Britain was once the greatest empire, but it collapsed a long time ago and one small lousy island remained of it. This happened because 100 SAS soldiers are not worth a single Russian soldier. And Russia is still a great empire and now occupies the 7th part of the land of the planet Earth. Britain is just a bug on the map compared to Russia. Now Britain is a vassal of the United States trying to do nasty things to Russia again to please its master overseas. I think Russia will have to swat this bug)

    UK Gov. should train and do support with equipment for UA spec ops forces for help them to obtain aibility to attack russian air bases with old strategic bombers - carriers of cruise missles - this is a bigger danger for UK, RU don't produce it , so destroying some part of them is best way to increase UK infrastructure and residents..

    For its weak defensive armament and large size, the aircraft carrier Queen Elizabeth has already been called a convenient target for Russian anti-ship missiles.
    Experts of the British analytical center Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) also say that the largest ship of the British fleet is vulnerable to anti-ship missiles. According to them, an anti-ship missile worth less than half a million pounds is capable of at least disabling a British aircraft carrier worth more than three billion pounds. "And a salvo of 10 such missiles will cost the Russian budget less than 4 million pounds, it is much easier to destroy such targets by focusing fire on them than to develop something of the same level to fight on equal terms," the report of RUSI experts emphasizes.
