As we return to James for the final message of our series, Paparazzi - Living out your faith in a world where everyone is watching, the conduct James seeks to address concerns money. In James 5 he covers the following ground:
*A warning for those with the wrong attitude towards money (vv. 1-6)
*An exhortation to have the right attitude towards money (vv. 7-12)
*Encouragement towards the right action (vv. 13-20)
Evidently money matters were a real cause for concern with James’ audience because if you recall, James referred to it in chapter 1, where he spoke about the fleeting nature of life itself, as well as chapter 2 where he rebuked the congregation for the personal favouritism they were demonstrating to those who were wealthy.
Money remains a hot topic today. It's not one we like to talk about or discuss, especially if we're not sure we're being good stewards of the resources God has given us. Avoiding the issue won't solve any problems. Like James' audience we have to confront it head on, even if it promises to be somewhat uncomfortable. See you on Sunday.
