4months old with good head control and pediatrician said can do a couple spoonfuls a day if baby is interested.
same here :)

That's what I was told with my 1st. My 2nd is now 2 months and has way more head control than his brother did at the same age. I wouldn't be surprised at this point if he'll do everything early.
Yes😊
Every pediatrician seems to give different opinions
I have 2 girls 17 and 13 , i started ta le food for both at 3 months . Girls are healthy no allergies
Thats when i started my daughter on solids🤷🏻♀️ all babies are different.
Is it okay to start purée food for a 3 month old baby?
My daughter is nearly 8 months and can’t sit unassisted. You telling me she can’t eat? 🙄 I put her in her chair and she does perfectly finr
How is she doing now?
This was same for my daughter. She was a late sitter, but she still needed to eat! I think as long as they can hold themselves upright in the highchair it is safe.
Same
@@nothandomazibuko9383 she sat up unassisted at 9 months. It hasn’t made any difference in her eating lol. If anything just being a little older and more experienced by the day has helped her eat almost anything as long as it is cut up in appropriate portions.
This is exactly why I get peeved with videos like this. It creates confusion. Our plunket nurse has advised the solids are fine as long as baby is interested in food from 4 months onwards.
My baby that’s 6 months old still does this but I started feeding him anyway he was is very interested in eating 🥣 puréed food
This advice is for people doing BLW. Purées are generally skipped as baby’s “first foods” when following traditional BLW, and when eating more solid consistencies of food than purées, good head control and being able to sit up stable and support themselves is important to help prevent baby accidentally choking on food.
I started feeding my son the same thing we were eating at about 4 months. Of course it was pureed but he immediately quit being cranky and started sleeping through the night. He was suddenly satisfied with his meals. He still had his formula and then later switched to milk
What age did your baby switch to normal milk?
@@sube3970 about 10 months I started him about 8 months but he didn't tolerate it at first so his doctorter said to back off for a couple of months and it worked out fine after that
@@sube397012 months
Pls what age did you switch to milk? My 3rd is currently 3mo and I'm open to learning
@@MrsMugsnot before a year. My mom fed me from 3 weeks and it didn't hurt anything. If your baby is hungry, feed them. Just use a spoon and hold them upright.
I definitely think it really varies baby to baby. Mine couldn't sit (mostly) on his own til 7 months but we started solids (aka purees) at 5.5 months
My pediatrician just told me to give my 4 month old purée baby food because his head control is good but he definitely can’t sit up yet by himself
yep mine too!
Mine too@@maddyavery5879
I still wouldn’t do it. All my mom friends keep telling me they did. Not me
I’ve started at 4 months and she’s loving it, got good head control. But can’t sit up yet. Not sure why they make these vids but don’t tell you why lol
Puree foods and solids aren’t the same thing lolz this video literally is only talking about solid food.
Thank you for this! I’m breastfeeding on demand, my 6mo old can pretty much tummy crawl but still not sitting up properly. And tongue thrust reflex still strong so I think I’ll just go very slow with purées
Just keep in mind that at 6 months babies need more nutritionally. Nothing is wrong with rice cereal. And puree
My son pediatrician give the green light since he was 4m. Just puree. He did good. He is now 6m his pediatrician give us the green light for solids. He doesnt sit yet&he is doing just fine 🤷
Haii.. now how's he doing. I hope now he's strong enough to sit with help. But my girl cannot sit straight until she's 9 month :((
@@aestheticgirl7671 my baby started purees with a spoon at 4 months. He could not sit by himself but could sit assisted so I put him on my leg facing sideways ( it was backbreaking on my account but he really enjoyed it) I figured as long as he was upright it wasn't a choking hazard. Remember you are the mama and you have better judgment than strangers on the internet. I hope your baby has fun, one of the great things about baby LED weaning is they get to play with their food, even if they're not eating it squishing it in their hands gives them a positive association with food.
This is totally wrong ! Some babies can’t sit up straight even until 8 months so a 8 month baby can’t just rely on breast milk past 6 months babies iron and other nutrients requirements are more unfortunately BM doesn’t make that much after 6 months so starting solids is like a top up to boost up nutrients!
Just make the baby sit on your lap upright position or even try high chair with proper support and start feeding little by little ! Ofc watch if baby is showing interest in food while u eat etc never force feed , look for allergies and bloating symptoms! Always consult your paediatrician! And mommies follow your own gut feeling and instincts no one knows your baby better than you do!
Not everyone is the same w their milk production. I heard breastfeeding is just fine until baby has teeth- some wait til about their 1st birthday. Breast milk has all the nutrients
My pediatrician told me 4 months purees and also Gerber themselves puts that on their packaging so I think I'm going to go with what my pediatrician says
the American Academy of Pediatrics, WHO, NIH, the Council for Pediatric Nutrition specialist and Pediatric Occupational Therapists all recommend children start eating when they can sit unassisted with head control. One of the reasons for this is it lowers the risk of choking. Also pediatricians aren't baby diet specialists, they actually know very little about it compared to pediatric dieticians and pediatric occupations therapists. As for Gerber, or course they tell you to start at the earliest chance, they are making money off the earlier start. They also are being sued for heavy metals in their foods. So their suggestions are worthless.
@@Klb7589 My pediatrician and her dietician said she exhibits all the signs to eat purees and as such she was cleared to do so. I'm not saying everyone should do it because I or Gerber say it's fine I'm saying ask your pediatrician/dietician. Which is why I said "I'm going to go with what my pediatrician says".
@@kaylarayla_ This clip is on Baby Lead Weaning which is mostly finger foods.
@@joandsarah77It doesn't state that it just says solids which also includes purees according to pediatricians. Once again I'd take advice from an actual doctor before I take it from a yt video. I get the channel is called that but the video just says "DONT FEED SOLIDS if your baby does this" which can be fear mongering and stressful to new moms that are being told by their doctor to go ahead and then their babies are not developing at the right speed because they listened to someone on yt or tiktok etc.
Do not wirry that baby will grow up set walk run in due time just enjoy them now hold love them
❤Our wise Dr said no food first 12 months! 😊
My mom had 6 babies. We all had different milestones. My son was finally able to sit without assistant at 7 months. Bu he started a week before he was 6 months. Its different for every baby
What is the relationship between food and not able to sit...
For those that are BLW (baby lead weaning) baby food such as purees, Peds usally recommend starting when baby starts showing interest in food and have good head and neck control generally that’s around 4 months but solids they can start until 6months and being able to keep head up without support helps to prevent choking but situating up unassisted well you just have to do what works for YOUR baby since every baby is truly different
Solids they can’t start until around 6 months+ **
What about babies who are delayed...my son is 7 month old but can't even hold his neck should I not give solid?
Same problem ?
Can i check a pediatrician?
My peditrician said it was ok at 4month as long as he has good head control.
You need to give an explanation.
BLW is mostly finger foods. Babies grasp, handle and swallow those better once they have more core strength. Sitting up shows they have this.
isn't it clear?
@michelleh4717 I would assume that parents put their slouchy babies in a sturdy high chair when feeding them. There's no way a baby will topple over. So, why would they not feed them solids if they can't fall down? That is what I mean by asking for an explanation.
@@BombshElle_7 It's the baby's core muscles and the possibility of choking. If you try leaning your body or twisting your own head as you eat or drink you will find it harder to swallow. So being straight is a big part of the baby being able to handle the foods. But there is more to it then just being straight but also involves the core muscles in the babies trunk. The second before choking we engaged those muscles to try and prevent the choke. It's nothing we think about doing but a reflex. If we start solids too soon baby does yet have those muscles developed enough to do that.
This is why baby lean weaning is started at 6 months, as most babies will have developed those core muscles by then.
How well the baby can sit shows how far developed the core muscles are. Hope that answers your question. :)
@@joandsarah77 YES!! This is the explanation that's needed! Thank you so much!
Y’all I have met many doctors that say if they can sit supported with their head not bobbing they can have baby food, my daughter is about 4 months old and is starting it, my other daughter is two and started before she could sit fully
Guys this doesn’t say baby food, it says solids, they can start baby food before starting solids…..
M 4 months old can’t sit up but got the green light as long can push up and showing interest
My pediatrician said 4 months, as long as they can hold there head up on their own and have giod control of neck so they wont choke
I have four months old baby and he always interested of my food but he can't sit well so I’m wondering if I can start feed him baby food...but I think I will wait one or two months more just in case
Why not? Sorry just wanting to understand
Most important thing and it’s not mentioned at all
I started my daughter on solids at 5 months. She was reaching for my cup and spoon at that point. She is 6 months and can't sit unassisted. But she loves her food and has two teeth. I don't see what sitting on their own has to do with eating.
What to do if baby is 6 months plus and cannot sit without support?
Shall i start with solid food
My baby just turned 7 months old not even soaking wet 7 months old yet March 12th 2024 and he's still not able to sit up on his own I've been practicing putting him between my legs and him being on his body pillow and I also bought a ball to help him still haven't done it yet
My daughter is 5 1/2 months and I do baby lead weaning.
A 4 month old can continue drinking milk, if cannot sit right, while a 7 months old need to eat solid food to help him get more nutrients. It's a different thing.
I’m the 90s, my moms doctor said breast milk was enough until 12 months.
My baby was sitting by himself when he was almost 5 months, and i started solids at 4 months because just formulas was not holding in his stomach anymore. He needed solids.
What to give first for 5 month baby
We start solid mess banana first time 3 month old ??
My kid started sitting at the end of 10th month. Was I supposed to wait until then? Few months later I found out he was severely damaged (autism)...hence the late sitting and late everything
It's OK if they sit in the feeding chair properly they don't need to be able to sit down themselves. Don't confuse people.
I breastfeed but don’t produce enough so I do formula also. I started giving baby rice cereal and some fruit at 2 months old in the bottle because just milk wasn’t cutting it. To each its own.
2 months old ? What did your pediatrician say?
My pediatrician said they can't digest food before 4 months, not even rice cereal so don't give it to them. Everyone should check with their pediatrician before doing that.
My son has been fine he is now 6 1/2 months and it wasn’t all the time but you have to use your own judgement
@@amy010276 my daughter just turned 17 and her pediatrician said I could at 1 month old. Not every bottle but a couple times a day
@@milissacoolmom5619just do what’s right for you I will be doing this from 3 month
My boy’s doc at his six month appointment said go crazy with letting him eat food except for raw honey. That was just a month ago. He eats perfectly well! Has baby oatmeal in the mid morning and a jar of purée in the evening for his solids and nurses for all other feeds during the day. He sits with support, not quite independently yet. I feel like this advice is incomplete and/or misleading. I wouldn’t let him topple over with a full tummy because that might make him puke, for example.
Yeah you can start purees if they are a supported sitter. And at least 4 months old. It even says "supported sitter" on the Gerber first foods label.
This is for baby-led weaning though. Please specify this in your video. It seems to be for all babies. We've been advised by a nurse that solids are fine if baby is showing interest in foods but not before 4 months. If parents decide to spoon-feed, they don't have to sit-up on their own before starting solids -- it's also because some babies may not even sit up on their own until 8-9 months. The whole point of starting solids is to start teaching baby to eat and help with their iron.
If the baby is 6+ months and is not sitting yet then can I follow traditional weaning before trying baby led weaning?
my baby still doing this shes 7months. I am doing trad.

Wtf? Babies aren't safe in a home with crack addicts. Those people shouldn't have kids in the home at all.
My son is 6 months old... He does all these things.. but elders say I need to start solids
It's great tk start solids at this age your babies do not need to be able to support them selves they just have to be supported
If ur baby seems interested in food give them please......they need it.
My baby just turned 7 months yesterday but he is not yet sitting and when I offer him solid food he is completely not interested! In any of it. Do I wait longer?
It depends. Is he gaining well and healthy. Alot of babies don't have to start at 6 months. Some are only interested after that. Some after a year. If he is breastfeeding on demand even better.

My baby is 6months and he is crawling aready
My baby is 7 months and sometimes fall when sitting 😢
Listen to your pediatrician! They see your baby in person and will guide you.
You can feed some babies from 4 months old
This clip is on Baby lead Weaning that uses mostly finger foods.
As I understand it, by 6 months of age breast milk alone can't provide babies with all the nutrients that they need anymore.
So they just need to be fed other foods. You can just use a chair that can be bent back, but not all the way in a sitting position, can't you?
I leard when the teeth come then thay can eat before thatj not
My daughter is 4 months and already sitting like that
But the doctor said start solid
As far as u r giving them finee puree doesnt matter
My son was born hungry. Milk never really filled him up. Started putting cereal in his milk at two weeks and he was eating pureed food at 2 1/2 months. My grandma told us to start adding the cereal because his cries sounded hungry. I don't care what doctor says, that baby is still hungry., she said one day. It worked too because he stopped crying so much. If i had waited till doctor said, he would have starved or cried forever i guess.
They can't digest food before 4 months. I hope your baby doesn't have long-term effects from that.
@@amy010276 he's 20 so i thinks he's ok..
There's this solution that scientists found to save babies and spent decades and decades refining it, put all the nutrients, vitamins, iron, zinc, magnesium, calcium, all you find in food in there, and sell it at supermarkets.
It's called formula. It has wayyyy more nutrients than cereal and babies can digest it.
It even comes with a lighter version for colicky babies.
@amy010276 They can perfectly digest cereals even fresh out of the womb... it's the risk for choking and inhaling thickened liquids in their lungs that's the concern.
It's pretty reckless given their stomach struggle to hold onto even milk at that age.
But aside from immediate risks, there's no long term effect associated with feeding baby food early. Well... as long as they don't choke on it that is.
I don’t listen to internet child rearing.
my baby 1 month he already seat😅
All this is gambling
Every mother/child face his/her own challenges
Some sit at early age others delay and 😊that can't stop you from feeding the baby
I’m pretty sure baby led weaning skips the puree state and goes straight to food
Why?
This is bologna
Lies my son is 6 months and he tilts over when he sits sometimes but he sits perfectly fine in his highchair and eats all his solids perfectly fine don’t spread crap information
My daughter is 8 months and still doesnt sit up on her own but she will walk in the walker. I started pureed baby food at 6 months old and she loves the Beechnut baby foods. I will start solids when her two bottom teeth are completely out. To help with her teething I also give her frozen fruit in a silicone feeder. It's all about trial and error when finding what works for your baby.
My son is 9 months old and still he is not able to sit unsupported and he doesn't crawl or try to stand with support. Is it really a problem to be concerned about or should I let my son on his own. Pls let me know
So if my baby is still not ready when 8 months old how long do I have to wait?
This is usually not typical, so I would recommend talking to your pediatrician for a possible referral to a pediatric PT or feeding therapist for an evaluation. At the very least it could give you some peace of mind or give you ideas on how you can do it safely 💕
Just remember all babies develop at their own pace my friend was also worried because her 8 month old could not sit on his own but by the end of the 8th month he got it. He is a perfect happy and healthy baby. Don’t let people scare you. Talk to your pediatrician about when to start solids. Many start at 4 months when their babies still aren’t able to sit unassisted.
WHY?
BLW is mostly finger foods. Babies grasp, handle and swallow those better once they have more core strength. Sitting up shows they have this.
All false we started feeding our baby at 6 months even though she could not sit by herself. Common sense is required, and all parents know their children.
False
I still dont understand why mothers purposefully 🤱 their daughters longer and make bigger effort to do so. When a mother does 🤱 her son she quicky weans him off it as fast as possible. Its like mothers milk is bad for boys or something. Stange 😢.
This is not true I nursed my son and daughter for exactly 2 years each
This is only true to your specific experience. It’s not scientifically true or proven.
