For those wondering that MTH SD50 Union Pacific patch unit used to be DRGW 5515, which is the super bass offering from Lionel in the last volume 2 catalog.
This would mean if you have ordered or were thinking of ordering that unit, you can get the same locomotive in two different paint schemes. Pre and post patch which is an uncommon occurrence in model railroading to have both sides represented.

Absolutely true the Pennsylvania RR borrowed a Norfolk & Western Class J for testing and evaluation when they were looking for a replacement for the K4's they'd been running on their prestige passenger trains. At the same time the PRR was developing their T1 Duplex locomotives. Long story short the Class J performed splendidly but the Pennsy decided to stick with their home-grown T1. Why has been open to conjecture ever since.
I suspect the mighty Pennsy didn't want to admit those "hillbillies" down in Roanoke were better than their own people in Altoona were when it came to designing an building modern steam locomotives! 🤣

Yes, that's the problem. Do they mean curves or turnouts? Don't know.
When see these videos, each thing that goes by (except for Menards and a handful of other exceptions) is mentally registered as "expensive, expensive, expensive".

Fun fact about that. MTH sd 50 Rio Grande. The cab number for the up patch is 9859 which is ex DRGW 5515, The same super base model cab number that Lionel produced in the 2023 Volume 2 catalog.

MTH, like Lionel, makes a number of items available to dealers (such as the N&W Js in this edition) and also exclusive runs for purchase only at specific shops. This helps protect the largest shops from faceless internet shops.
