How To Repair And Run K-Line Steamers - Easy Eccentric Repair
Просмотров 2,3 тыс.День назад
K-Line trains is has been out of business for almost 15 years now, but they left behind a legacy of durable, good running trains O Gauge 3 rail. One of the most popular of these is the 3000 Series of 4-6-2 and 4-6-4 steam locomotives that were based on original Marx Trains tooling. These steamers featured smoke, air whistles, smooth-running can motors, electronic 3-position reverse boards, and,...

What Are Old Toy Trains Worth? How To Find Lionel, Marx and American Flyer Values
Просмотров 3,9 тыс.14 дней назад
How do we answer the question What are my old Lionel, Marx, and American Flyer trains worth? Let’s take a look. In basic economics, we learn that prices are determined by supply and demand. In the case of toy trains, the supply is usually limited - by age and by the quantity of a specific item produced. Some items are very rare and others are quite common, so the first element that factors into...

Lionel's Vintage K4 Steamer: From 675 to 2035 and Beyond!

In 1947, Lionel redesigned one classic steam locomotive to create another. These models are Lionel’s interpretation of one of the most ubiquitous steam locomotives in the Northeastern United States in the first half of the 20th Century - the Pennsylvania Railroad Class K-4 Pacific. Ironically, Lionel’s interpretation of the Pennsylvania K4 stole from an earlier design based on the Pennsy’s arch...

Train Show Bargains! What I Bought For Under $100!
Просмотров 3,9 тыс.Месяц назад
I have said many times on this channel that I find the best train bargains at local train shows - and last weekend’s show was no exception! I do prefer locally-sponsored shows over the large, touring national shows, as the local shows attract not only area train dealers, but often collectors who ar...

The Shell Game: How To Expand Your Roster Without Breaking Your Budget
I just bought a set with track and the directions are on the back of the box (very detailed). Also comes with powered 10” track piece that you plug in. Don’t know how it will work with more track but so far so good
Ive tried this a few times no success. Locked both out but will not move. Light on the Lionel 180 flashes to red
Unfortunately, the model Strasburg water tower looks NOTHING like the REAL one.
I'm glad you're still making these videos I have learned a lot from your videos thank you for sharing your video 🎉
I hope there not upping the price on there cars
The trailer cars are getting a hit to high
Did this today with the lighted switch. Works good but the lights both stay on all the time. Probably get a different 3 position switch for my layout. Thanks for the video.
Don't buy the wtiu unless you want dcc, otherwise it's a waste of money, your older wiu & tiu will work just fine, I called MTH and got it from them directly
Good advice!
I'm not sure friend. But I think Atlas bought out MTH with all inventory and boxes and will just exhaust that inventory. Then again, General Mills bought out Lionel in 69, but still kept the Lionel name. My guess! 🤔
No. Atlas purchased SOME tooling, but not all. MTH has been producing new products for 5 years. There's no way there was that much inventory left when they shut down. Also. MPC LICENSED the production of trains from Lionel. They did not buy the company ( Lionel survived as a holding company owning, among other things, Kiddie City toy stores).
Plus, how would they have known in 2019 to produce Trump and Harris products for 2024? No, MTH is alive and well.
Ok. Thank you everyone! Then I guess MTH is still in business! If true, awesome! I have a couple of MTH products and I'm so happy with them
Nice Choo Choo Barn billboard Mike.
Atlas bought some of the dies
Yes. And in some cases Atlas has licensed them back to MTH for specific products.
Didn’t mth go out of business how are they still makeing new stuff can someone explain?
After the liquidation of MTH assets began, new investors came forward to keep the company going. Ironically, MTH entered a marketing agreement with Atlas in 2024 that allows MTH to sell some of the passenger car tooling they previously sold to Atlas as MTH products.
annual going out of business sale
Is it just me or do the MTH tank cars look an awful lot like the Menards tank cars (minus the trucks)
I agree.
Great review
Thanks!
Man, does that Schwinn trailer on the EJ&E flatcar bring me back with those "Stingray" bikes! I'll tell you though, and for those who don't remember, those bikes were actually VERY comfortable rides with the "banana" seats and high handlebars. Not great for a long distance run with the small wheels but lots of fun for around the neighborhood and short runs. Good times! Thanks Mike!
Thanks for the feedback!
@@wayneantoniazzi2706 hey friend! I all but forgot about those banana seat Stingray bikes. They had a "Sissy bar" on the back. The bigger the bar, the badder you were. They were the envy of the neighborhood. I had an oversized Montgomery Ward bike that was a pain to get on/off without getting hurt. Hated to ride it, cause I always new it would kamikaze!
@@mikemiura7740 Mine was actually a smallish bike to begin with that Dad modified with the seat and handlebars. VERY easy to get on and off in that respect. Glad I triggered that memory for you!
Nice! There are some neat items to choose from. The water towers are pretty cool. I do think, though, that full-length vista domes don't look right, unless they are scale-sized. They look somewhat stubby and top-heavy, in the shorter sizes. Other than that, there are some fine offerings on the way. An excellent video, as always.
Thanks for watching!!
I’ve been a model railroader since I was a kid even when I was in ho scale my focus was on fun not historical accuracy that same reason is why I love o gauge so much you can make something ultra realistic or you can just have fun and run whatever makes you happy
Rule #1: It's my railroad. Anything that works for you - works!!
How small text can you get on a cricut?
The "OINK" on the GP7 is about 3/8" tall. That's about the smallest I would try.
Nice haul Mike. That orange and blue Kuhn box car is gorgeous!
Thanks!!
Interesting video. The best of the later switchers is the 617 offered in 1963 only. It's pictured during the video with red marker lights. I believe it came with clear markers (or classification lights). Those red classification lights are from the MPC era.
Thanks for the information!
Thank you for the link. I commented on that page. 🙂
What an amazing find! I don't mean the road names, I don't mean the Christmas cars, I mean that this is the first train haul I've ever seen that includes brake wheels ON EVERY CAR. Maybe this is regional, but we have 14 train swap meets here in Arizona every year, and I've NEVER seen that many complete cars, EVER. I bought a package of 10 metal brake wheels with metal pins from Trainz just to put on box cars, gondolas. and hopper cars that were missing them. I have 4 left and will buy another package of them soon. I would be interested in hearing from subscribers about this. All in all, you had a great score in my opinion. Great score!
You're right. With the exception of some surface rust on a few, these cars were all in excellent condition. I also have ordered replacement brake wheels, but I did not need them on this batch.
Just bought 10 of these. This video was very helpful in determining the age.
Happy to help!
I agree with local train shows as I've found some amazing deals. Also I've noticed that older Weaver and Williams scale cars are excellent and far less expensive then new. MTH passenger cars from the 90s-2000s are excellent deals compared to the new items.
I’ve found some excellent deals at local shows.
A lot of nice treasures. And I enjoy your commentary because it's also educational. The reward is seeing your new acquisitions rolling on the track and they are fantastic. The Christmas consist of trains showed Santa in his sleigh and reindeer inside of a gondola. Did you make that yourself? And I cannot make out the train cars that are trailing behind. And were any of those seen before on your channel?
The Christmas Train features a repainted Marx #400. The Santa & sleigh is actually a cake decoration I found. Everything else is from craft and dollar stores. ruclips.net/video/pDLnF1ZVXnA/видео.html
Picked up a Lionel car at an estate sale the other day. 1/2 price and I think it was 2.50. They did have some HO stuff. But, just one Lionel car.
Nice
I picked up a post war lot about a year ago with 150 ft of track, 11 turn outs, 14 short box cars, 12 flat decks, four cabooses, four drop decks, two tenders, two 2034 locos, one 202 engine, and two rough crane cars and a damaged car carrier with cars. One 2034 was cracked beyond repair, the 202 wouldn't run without a cleaning, and several of the flat cars were missing steering wheels and steps. I gave $75 for the lot. All I was after were some box cars to go behind my 2020 set vs the working cars it came with. One of these days I'll stumble on a better transformer for cheap.
That's a nice score for the price!
Those are great acquisitions.
Thanks!
I'm like you always hunting for a good price most of my o gage collection iv got is sher dum luck and recently i went a little crazy I guess il list them out in no particular order il include shipping if it wasn't free 1 a mth ps1 sd45 with box wich is in grat shape 150 dollars 2 a early 2000ens lionel hudson it was listed as parts but worked just fine all it needed was serviced 80 dollars no box 3 a 1992 lionel 2-6-2 which had never ran I don't think it ever came out of the box 130 in fact I've been looking for one of there's 91/92 2-6-2 for some time now there kinda rare but not that popular then or now so I'm considering this was the lucky find of them all 3 a early 2000ends lionel berkshire jr it to was listed as parts and was just fine infect the oly reson why I bid on this was I was unsure if I was going to win the erlyer mechend hudson it was 150 dollars no box ether 4 I got a little ahead of my self and won 4 NYC 027 lionel passenger cars to go with the hudson but its a scale hudson so there a little small but work just great behind the berkshire I only paid 100 dollars for them but not all have there box's a couple of dead light bulbs later and it now a main attraction 5 5 illinois central passenger cars for 120 dollars i got to go behind the 2-6-2 it looks great and definitely in my new favorite and again some bulbs and a broken coupler and we're off
That sounds like a great haul!
The postwar versions of those MKT stock cars are very tough to find
Yes.
I also got some K Line Cambeles Soup Christmas cars.
This is true. In all honesty, there isn't much reason for me to buy the new stuff, when there's a good backlog of cheap old stuff. Take care!
And you also!
I love finding a good deal. Nice pickup ❤
Yes! Thank you!
Greetings. I was wondering the size of your layout.
The eventual plan will be approximately 16 x 16. Phase 1 is currently operating which is roughly 6 x 12
Great score!!
Thanks!
Well done Mike, that's some good scores all around. But that Coca-Cola car's got me thirsty for one, gotta head to the fridge! Thanks for posting!
It's the real thing!
I did once buy two Chessie hoppers (about $16 each, according to my recently rediscovered price guide) for about $6 at Trainz. When figuring the "value profit" from Trainz purchases I don't factor in the shipping as it's typically fixed and I like to wait until there's a big sale or something and buy a bunch of junk at once. On a mostly unrelated note, I now have a new train room. The Lignite Subdivision, as it is now, will move there and be significantly expanded. My wallet, as a result, will rapidly decrease in size.
Absolutely agree on different wordings for searches. I've found more interesting cars with 'oddball' search parameters than with 'standard' ones. And if you're after cars to 'kitbash', then searches that include 'damaged' or 'for parts' have rendered up some 'El Cheapo's that I've 'tweaked' into useable cars for little $$.
Excellent tip!
Live auctions can be even better especially if there's one that don't charge a buyer's penalty, I don't normally buy mpc era non scale cars, but was at a auction locally recently that sold mpc cars in lots that probably were about $1-4ea
That sounds like a great deal!
You know what would go great with those 2 Christmas Coke boxcars? one of those Christmas Coke Semi trucks.
My Lionel Hudson Jr. Smokes just about as well! Enjoyed the vid as always Mike!
Thanks for watching!
Could you use one push button to cycle between switch throws?
Not unless it's some sort of double -pole alternating button. You have to connect power to two different turnout posts. You COULD use a momentary contact double pole double throw toggle (which is essentially what the original control box is).
@ I’ll look around for one. Something akin to an “on-on” switch but in button form.
Great video. I would probably be that guy who would take one apart and get it running for fun again. Got an extra can of magic smoke on the shelf incase. 😁
:-)
What is the curve on the 022 switch? I've searched for an answer but nothing is listed for the actual curve. Thanks for the video's.
031 curve. Had to watch it again...lol
Just got a few Marx from a pawn shop lot off fleabay. Watching these now planing my full day of servicing trains. There was 14 trains in this deal.
Sounds like you got a great deal!
@ToyTrainTipsAndTricks after I fix most of it I'm hoping it will be a good deal. Few of the trains are trashed, but most will still run.
@kirkwalsh1932 they say the only rare Marx is one that won't run!
@@ToyTrainTipsAndTricks wow I have a few rare ones then....lol
I posted a picture on your X account in a reply to your last tweet. Can't figure out a car, thought you might know.
It looks like someone customized a Lionel number 41 Army switcher. www.tandem-associates.com/lionel/lionel_trains_41_army_unit.htm
Can i do these to the plastic marx switches too
The Marx plastic switches are a different animal. They include their own spring loaded arms that are supposed to work like guardrails but get out of the way for fat wheeled locomotives. The design does not work very well.
I need help with the plastic marc switches. Would this work too
The Mark's plastic turnouts can be wired the same way.
A little correction, this style of brush plate wasn’t used for the whistling tenders, but it was also used for the 60 trolly and the 41 army switcher, only difference was that on the 41 the front grill cast into the brush plate was cut off for better ventilation to the armature if I’m correct.
Thanks for the feedback!!!
Neat stuff Mike.
Thanks!
