I can certainly understand your sticker shock at today's prices, but new Lionel trains have always been expensive. I just pulled out my January 1995 Classic Toy Trains issue and Lionel had released the following: "Missouri Pacific GP7 with headlight, diesel horn, and Liontech E Unit $299.95". That's a basic Postwar GP7 shell and frame with an electronic horn and electronic E unit. In today's dollars, that would be $618.35. Today's $600 diesels are better detailed and have better sounds, lights, and control. Another example: "Reissue of Norfolk & Western J Class 4-8-4 with Railsounds, electronic E unit and AC Pullmor motor: $899.95". or $1855.26 in today's dollars. Also, keep in mind that the Lionel products in this episode are all Limited-Run models to railse funds for METCA. Such limited runs are nearly ALWAYS more expensive than mass-produced catalog items.
Thanks Mike! Just a historic note on the "banned nose art" F6F "Hellcat" locomotive. While the US Army Air Force permitted aircraft nose art during WW2 as a morale builder nose art was forbidden on US Navy aircraft. There WAS a Navy pilot who applied that shark-mouth type art to his airplane, there's photo evidence of it, but he was quickly told to have it painted over. Interestingly once the war was over all nose art on USAAF aircraft remaining in service was ordered to be removed.
Lots of cool stuff. The price of new O3r continues to outpace SSI....all but Menards anyway. I wish Menards would invest in a 36 foot reffer......something other than the X-29 size box car. BTW MSRP on the Wooland roadside motel is $150....not bad for four buildings. Thx
The price of EVERYTHING continues to outpace salaries. The advantage of the Menards 40' boxcar is the 70-year old tooling is cheap and paid for. Notice how newer tooling (stock car, ACF covered hopper, etc) has been more expensive.
@@ToyTrainTipsAndTricksYEP!! Menards ACF hopper, I have 2 of them, are still one third what MTH or Lionel unit. I'd be happy to pay $34 for a 36ft Reffer. I am not talking a top of the line car with many added parts. One about same detal as box car. Possible paint schemes is endless Thx
Very nice! I like the flats with the pup trailers. They have some interesting cars, with cool graphics. The locomotives are quite fine and also have great graphics and detail. Everything is a bit expensive, though, at least for my taste, as a post-war/MPC guy. I do have a few newer trains and accessories, but not many. An excellent video, as always.
As usual a very well done video, but other than Menard's UP offerings, nothing that appeals to the railroader west of the Mississippi in general or southwest in particular. (I'm just not that into the Milwaukee Road) Maybe next time.

Crazy. $100 for a flatcar...
I really like the GG1!
I'm through with Lionel and their inflationary prices!

I gave up on Lionel when they shut down US production in 2001.
I like moosehead beer!
Thanks Mike!
