Iran responding militarily is the weakest move they can make. They should decline to retaliate and respond through the international community. Israel's attack on Iran was intended to escalate, and the best case scenario for them is getting attacked and playing the victim, as well as drawing the US directly in. Why would you allow them to succeed? Instead of responding militarily, you can decline. What purpose does retaliation even serve? It's clearly not deterrence, since they are actively baiting attacks. Israel has never been more unpopular, and they are flailing. Responding without upsetting anyone too much is nothing more than meek, there is no deterrence to someone trying to bait a fight except to let them embarrass themselves.
