  • Common Mallow is a plant often found in disturbed soil, gardens and lawns. The entire plant is edible.
    Before attempting to eat ANY food you are not 💯 sure of, proper identification is critical. Do your own research to be sure of what you are going to eat! There are many good books and websites to help properly identify plants so invest in a few good ones.
    Here is the one, of many, I use
    "The Forager's Harvest, A Guide to Identifying, Harvesting, and Preparing Edible Wild Plants" by Samuel Thayer
    Remember, there are plants that can make you very sick or even kill you! I take NO responsibility if you eat something you didn't properly identify. Be safe but enjoy the delicious foods nature provides.

    The seed pods are also called fairy cheese. So don’t consume them all yourself. The little cheeses are one of the main treats when the fairies in your garden have a party. 🧚‍♀️

    I've seen these for years and never knew until I looked them up today. I enjoyed sampling the seed pods.

    These just mysteriously grew in my garden and I thought it was one of my geraniums until I used an app to figure it out which led me to your video. I love the green foliage thanks for the information.

      Always double check. The first thing I do is to see if it has any poisonous look alikes. If so, don't eat it.

      The mallow is easily identifiable by that red dot at the center of the leaves where the stem ends.

    I can’t get rid of these! The roots are thick, deep and spreading! Maybe a few would be enough, but they are spreading like crazy!

      Unfortunately the only way I found to get rid of them is to pull when young and don't let them go to seed 😔

    I am trying to find anything that will tell me that I can use this plant as an intentional groundcover. Also, have you head if it is considered a favorable plant in permiculture?

    • @LifePrepared
      @LifePrepared  Год назад

      It could easily become a ground cover but it will get about 18" tall or more. I have never seen it used extensively in permaculture but many foragers love it. You can start a permaculture trend using what would normally be foraged to supplement permaculture.
