@@thereviewsbrothers3854 , what if I told you all that there is a new version of Doom that is going to be made by Limited Run Games, Bethesda, and id Software for the SNES, and maybe NSFC (Super Famicom) as well?
So about the chronology of the ports: the Jaguar version was actually the first console port developed but the second to be released (the 32X version came out slightly ahead of it) and was done by John Carmack, which probably explains why it turned out so well. The cuts made to the levels from the original 3 episodes were carried over into most subsequent ports, even the PS1 version where you'd think they would no longer be necessary. The SNES version didn't come out until much later (1995) and was largely developed by one guy, Randy Linden, who made a custom engine to get the game to run properly on the system.
The unfortunate issue with emulating jaguar games is that the clock speed for some are really borked and not many emulators have the ability to lock the speed. Which is why it runs so fast here.

Why don’t they remake this game? Because it’s near perfect. These games are way better suited for reboots like Doom 2016 instead of remaking the original. In fact, they kind of did with Doom 3 and took it in a whole different direction. You say at the PS4/Xbox One/Switch version that nothing is altered. But why would you want that in a port of the original Doom? Gotta say I was kind of disappointed with the lack of research done for this video. The reason why the medkits have different sprites is 100% because of copyright. The Red Cross owns the red cross. “I’m not sure which came before, Doom PS1 or Doom 64”. A simple Google search would have answered that question. (PS1 Doom is the answer) Also Doom for SNES is not the first console port. It came out in 95 wheras the 32x and Jaguar ports released in 94. Doom is one of the best documented games on the internet. So basic knowledge about all these versions and why they run good or bad is out there. It’s just a shame you didn’t go through the trouble of doing that to make a great video.
SNES port of doom had a custom engine made for it. that's why it transitioned so well. Doom 32X and the Atari Jaguar port entered production around the same time. The 32X version was actually rushed to meet the launch of the 32X. the 32X port has a very steady framerate as you can see. That is the Sega Mega Drives "blast processing". Though Blast Processing is a marketing term for the mega drive's refresh rate which was designed to allow 60hz with almost no slow down (in PAL region it is 50Hz) though. 32X doom as with most 3D rendered games halves the framerate. it's about 30HZ instead. Jaguar port can play music but only if you have two jaguars linked via Jag link. Saturn version suffered from John Carmack being an asshole and making the developer recode the game multiple times because he wanted it to be like the Jaguar version or whatever. basically, he was just being his egotistical self. HE did finally apologize for ruining the saturn version. Also, the special spectres are still in the Saturn version, but they look the same as normal ones. The green blood in the GBA port had nothing to do with Nintendo. It was actually so they could get the game a T for Teen/ PEGI - 12+ rating. The Xbox 360 version even ports over all the original game bugs, even crashes! And yes, the health kit changes are indeed because of copyright. Red Cross is a copyrighted symbol of the Red Cross. This isn't the first time the cross has been censored either. in the 360/PS3 port of Doom 2, they are replaced with red and white pill pictures. (this also affects the Doom 3 BFG Edition versions) Also, the 360 version of Doom 2 also includes a new episode: "No Rest for the Living"
Great video! It's nice to see all these Doom ports compared to each other in this video. I'm surprised the GBA version has all the levels and runs better than the 3DO version given the limited hardware. Keep it up.

The input delay when playing offhost is HORRIBLE. Anyway, I've since played via Chocolate Doom, GZDoom, dsda-doom, and the official version on the Switch. Also yeah, the new version has green cross medkits because the Red Cross complained.
360 version is very good, but yeah those achievements are annoying. Does the Switch one have the add ons? Those are what I'm playing through at the moment. Some are really damn hard!

Had the 32X version as a young kid. Yeah it wasnt bad at all. Then my dad bought a Playstation for his place and a copy of Doom, played the heck out of it whenever I was at his place. And it was quite superior to the 32X vers.
doom had to change the red cross as to avoid legal trouble from the red cross foundation. they changed it to a red pill in BFGDoom and to a green cross in UnityDoom, KexDoom64 and KexDoom.
I will forever be disappointed that the modern console version of Doom doesn't have built in online multiplayer like the 360 version did- ESPECIALLY because the recent Quake port did have online play.
I actually don’t have a switch or know anyone that has it on switch (my friends are losers). As far as I know it’s the same as the PS4 version though. Not 100% if it has the add on features.
The ambient/new age music of the PSX port matches more the theme of Doom. The cheesy Thrash inspired tunes of the PC version always sounded out of place. I think John Romero was trying to project his outdated taste in music rather than caring about aesthetics.
As an exercise in translating the PC game to an early generation console, the SNES version is under rated. As an aggregate, it keeps an impressive number of the PC versions levels, including several that didn't appear in any of those other console ports, it features all the bigger boss enemies missing from several of the other ports, it maintains the three-episode structure of the PC original, and as a whole the level geometry stays true to the PC version in ways many that the other consoles compromised it. Out of those generations of consoles, if fidelity to the PC Doom was what I were looking for, then the Super Nintendo port was the best of them. Green blood aside, Gameboy Advance Doom 2 was also a very faithful adaptation of the PC game, and deserves kudos for it.
Another misinformed RUclipsr saying the Sega Saturn was not "good" at 3D. The Doom engine is NOT 3D; it's a raycasting engine. It relies on the system's processor for rendering quickly, not the GPU. The original game was made to run on 486 PCs, which lacked any 3D accelaration capabilities. The reason why the Saturn port is worse than the PlayStation one, is because it was not optimized for Saturn hardware. The devs in charge of the port wanted to make it run on the same engine as Duke Nukem 3D on the Saturn, but John Carmack shot the idea down, as he disliked texture warping (common on both PS1 and Saturn as neither has Z buffering). Had the devs made use of the Saturn's 2nd SH2 processor, DOOm would have run much better. Alas, it was a wasted opportunity.
The Sega Saturn version suffered because John Carmack did not allow the developer to use the 3D materials for the game, opting to avoid texture wobble rather than have a smooth game. I am astounded at how many people know the terrible development for the worst port of the game, but so many do not even LOOK up the Saturn port's problematic development. AVGN did the same exact thing.
Doom on Saturn could've been good 🤔 Developer made a version with their own engine that ran alot better but carmack didn't want them to use it because it introduced texture warping
Oh I definitely recommend sticking with it. Drop the difficulty a bit, then when you're used to the combat loop, you will be ripping and tearing like nobodies business. I went back to it recently (this video was actually going to be on all the games in the series til I realised how many console ports there were) and when I went back to my previous save, I struggled to beat the first and second levels. Really is one of those games you have to re-learn.
The Jag got far and away the best console version of that early 3d era GBA is best option for a handheld unless you happen to have a switch of course or alternitively a handheld or phone capable of dreamcast emulation in wich case there is the fan made doom collection with great versions of doom, doom 2, final doom and wolf 3d all in one download
That Bill Gates Doom video was always such a weird stretch, especially him wearing that long jacket to try and look hip and edgy and down with the kids. Very much the 1990s equivalent of "Hello, fellow kids!", or maybe "hello fellow Doomers!" in this case. The Doom novel named a character after him. It was the first zombie encountered in Knee Deep In The Dead lol
‘The ambient sounds of Doom PS1 aren’t that bad’

It's the same as the PS4 version, yeah.
I played the GBA version of Doom 2 religiously. Only one thing that truly bothered me was the infamous armor glitch.
@@vembrace that’s very cool to know. Aa you noticed I wasn’t aware. Thanks for the info 👍
Doom being 3D or not is still heavily debatable.
@@DuckTheWhatnot when it comes to the technical side. DOOM is fully 2D on the technics.
So sad for my beloved Saturn to have such an awful port of doom. I hope one day someone will remake it with both sh2 cpu !
Im pretty sure doom is 3D its just heavily limited due to technical limitations and optimization
The SNES version was pretty ambitious as it made use of the SNES 3dfx chip
Doom on Saturn could've been good 🤔
Developer made a version with their own engine that ran alot better but carmack didn't want them to use it because it introduced texture warping
I bought Doom eternal for ps5 and got my ass handed to me. That game looks amazing but is way too hard.
"Jagwah"
Never have I ever heard anyone say Xbox three hundred and sixty 😂😂
Are you the top hat gaming man
I am happy to report that I am not. My voice is much sexier.
@thereviewsbrothers3854 hehe love the video
Modders are the exact reason theres no remake of doom 1, everyone knows its jusy not needed.
Second comment and under 33 views baby!
You forgot android and iOS
Three frames an hour 😂
You didn't talk about the Xbox original version.
Hit me up if you wanna make some videos. I'm doing good things for the film and gaming industry
The Jag got far and away the best console version of that early 3d era
GBA is best option for a handheld unless you happen to have a switch of course or alternitively a handheld or phone capable of dreamcast emulation in wich case there is the fan made doom collection with great versions of doom, doom 2, final doom and wolf 3d all in one download
