Such beautiful work. I’m with you on the gemtac. My favorite always! I like to use crystals on my small dog clothes and found E6000 is just a mess and caused headaches. A couple things that made my life easier is using a syringe with a small tip to apply my glue. It’s easier on my fingers and is very precise. Also pick gems with a wax pencil. Just thought I’d offer this, but whatever methods you use- 🤩 Wowza!!! Your work is sensational. I watched in total fan girl mode!!!
I handbead veils for my sister and I love using flatbacks rhinestones and pearls. I tried both method in the past but I will still pick the glue.. It's easier for me since I used tulle. Just make sure to let it set for at least overnight every section of application..
Thank you so much for all the advice! The gym I go to uses disco lights and Blue Lights so the gym is ideal for rhinestones. I am the coolest dude at my gym cause I subtly place rhinestones on my baseball caps. I sparkle like Edward from Twilight! 🤣😂❤
I use the pen from my diamond painting and wax to pick up the gems. Also any wax crayon will work or the white pencil wax things that come with a lot of rhinestones works but then it has to be sharpened. Since I only use mechanical pencils I don't have a lot of those around.
Thank you so much for creating this video! During quarantine, I did my first rhinestone project using a hotfix tool because I was stoning shoes and thought it would be the easiest. I loved using the hot fix, but I rarely see people in my inner cosplay circle use them, so I was wondering if glue was better than using hot fix. I appreciate you stating that you don't think one is better than the other because that gave me such peace of mind that me using hot fix isn't "wrong".

Yep, I've tried that, it's not really that much better/more efficient. I've also been doing this for 8 or so years so I've tested out a few things here and there ☺️
Uhh all of my costumes are dry clean or hand wash only so I can’t speak to machine washing. I’d recommend with any kind of embellishment doing a delicate wash otherwise hand wash is.
Whether using the pre-glue stones vs the ones that need the glue, which one stays better on the clothing when washed. I was thinking the Gem-tac because it's permanent. If the Gem-tac is a better fix than the pre-glue stones, can you still add a little to the pre-glue stones to ensure that the stones say on when washed?
The gem tac definitely holds better to the wash just wash alone, inside out, on delicate cycle or wash by hand, it really only takes 5 minutes to wash by hand and hang dry over night.
What’s the best way to apply swarvoski stones flat back with leather ? Would you recommend using a nail polish remover to make sure the leather has enough grip or just place glue and stick on
Hi! Thank you for the video! I'm planning on wrapping a 1/4 inch PVC pipe wth sisal rope. It will be placed outside in my garden. Do you think rhinestones I attach to the rope will withstand rain/heat? I was planning on using all weather E6000. Thank you!
Thank you for this video! Question for you. Can adhering rhinestones to Vinyl using GemTac survive the washing machine? What is your experience with that?
Hotfix rhinestones already have a glue on them, I would not recommend adding glue and then adding heat that's like begging for some kind of chemical reaction that can go wrong. Instead you can use just glue to adhere hotfix gems or just the hotfix tool to adhere hotfix gems.
I've found that GemTac has a stronger bond and buying stones without "hotfix" glue on the back is often cheaper depending on which kind of rhinestones you are buying.
What was that mixture you were talking about? I use a heat press for rinestones but I'm not so impressed with the results. I'm afraid that they'll wash out.
Depending on the coating of the faux leather you might not be able to use hotfix at all without it burning the material so I recommend GemTac but also do a test, some faux leathers have a coating that rejects glues.
I am new to this and would like to try the glue method but not sure how well it would hold up on fabric as in for if you wash it what it would do and not sure about the hot tool at all yet I want to bedazzle or embellish a jacket I have for a certain look any more tips would be helpful
I use rhinestones on silk all the time, my favorite method for silk is Gemtac, e6000 has discolored silk in the past. You can use hotfix just so a test on scrap fabric to get used to how much heat the fabric can take
I would recommend doing a test first and washing on a delicate cycle and hang drying. Every Hotfix glue on the back of gems is different, some hold really well and some don't. I've had good experience with GemTac holding extremely well through washing on delicate.
just what i was looking for, thanks for this! I have a question though. Most of my rhinestones are hotfix but the applicator I had was rubbish. Could I just apply the hotfix rhinestones with Gem-Tac rather than a heated wand?
Hi can you help me i am barely getting in to rhinestones. I have hotfix applicator with the tips, but i happen to buy rhinestones bigger flat glue 60ss then the tips how can i apply the heat?
I use 3mm 4mm and 5mm the most, if I use anything larger it's normally to be a statement pieces and then I hate using anything smaller than 3mm its just too small and I feel like I lose more than I use. I also like GemTac more because I can do it on the go, I have used it on a car ride to a convention before, it was a mess lol but I did it. Needing electricity for the Hotfix stones makes it more difficult but my favorite cheap 3mm AB crystals are hotfix so when I need a lot and don't want to spend a lot of money my friend the Hotfix tools is there waiting lol
Great job! How about first - hot - fix applicator - are there need also extra glue or just heat up the surface and then the rhinestone already has a little glue and it sticks?
It depends, if it's a design like a snowflake or a rose etc, get yourself some stencils, hot fix rhinestones and transfer paper and use and iron. If they are randomly placed then GemTac is the fastest way.
It depends on what method you are using, if you use hotfix you will want to test it on the material first to find its burning level so you don't hold it too long and burn the end product. Otherwise, if you use gemtac you don't have to worry about burning but you should still do a test to make sure it doesn't discolor the fabric.
It hotfix the brand name for the took or the tools name In general? And can I use regular gems from the dollar store with the hot fix tool or only hotfix gems
I believe "Hot Fix" is the term to describe applying rhinestones with an adhesive on the back of them that actives when heat is applied. For example Swarovski has hot fix and non hot fix rhinestone options but if a stone does not have the hot fix glue it will not work with heating it up to apply. I've never purchased dollar store gems before but any gem that works with the hot fix tool will say on the package that it has heat activated glue on the back of it.
I think it's important to note that while e6000 is toxic AF if you are not going to be working for extended periods too often you are fine. And worst case, you simply wear a respirator. It's important to note that depending on the surface, E6000 may last longer in the long run. Less porous materials like plastics or metals, for example, would benefit from something like E6000. I like to think about the surface I'm gluing on, the size of the stones, and the wear or use the garment or project will have (for example burlesque costume pieces gets thrown on the floor constantly VS say a cosplay or drag queen costume). I wouldn't feel too confident using just gem-tac for stones larger than ss34.
This is a great question! So it depends on the rhinestone, adhesive and fabric used in the project. I personally only use rhinestones for costume making so my costumes are all dry clean or hand wash only so I don't have experience with putting them in the washing machine.
Hi, I am going to try glueing crystals to a communion veil, could you tell me how long it takes for gemtac to dry and would it be strong enough to hold the gems.
Yes it can, which is why it's important to do a test on a piece of scrap fabric before doing it on the final object, I'd also recommend figuring out the melting point on each and every type of fabric you use so you stop holding the tool to the fabric at the right time.
The Rhinestone Genie rhinestones are machine wash safe as long as your fabric is also machine wash safe. I normally use silk or brocade on my garments so they are dry clean only and therefore I have not tried to machine wash with other rhinestone brands.
Hi!! Great video! I will be decorating my graduation cap and I will be using the e6000 glue and I was wondering if it’s necessary to use the hotfixing applicator. Will it be a major problem if I don’t?
Can you be more specific? I talk about a few types of glue in this video and name them all on several occasions as well as have links to detailed lists in the description of the video.
Can you use glue for hotfix stones? I bought a bunch of expensive hotfix preciosa stones and I heard hotfix is more complicated than just glueing it in. This is my first rodeo so I want to go with the easiest option :)
I’ve used gem tac with hot fix crystals & it worked fine. The only difference I noticed is that the hot fix crystals are heavier than non hot fix ones so I did need to use a more generous amount of glue than normal 💖
I mention 2 kinds in the video so I am not exactly sure which one you are referring to, but e6000 is the highly toxic glue that leaves a residue on silk and GemTac is the safe alternative that dries clear, this is the one that I personally use.
Thank you very much, I don't know from personal experience but I would imagine that hot fix will not work on velour since the heat will harm the "pile" of the fabric but I'd recommend doing a test with gem tac glue. If you are constructing the garment yourself then use a scrap if you are using a already constructed garment, find a hem or somewhere on the garment with isn't visible or gets little to no attention and try one stone and make your decision based off of that.
Hey there! Super video and so easy to follow. Any tips on applying rhinestones to Worbla? Would you recommend just sinking them into hot Worbla or applying them separately with glue?
This is a great question, I'm not really sure though. If you sink them into hot worbla you might create bubbles and have issues painting it later. On the other hand if you apply them on after the glue might not stick to the coats of paint for as long as say something like fabric. I guess do a test with both ways and see what seems to be the best way that works for your project.
Very cool. I'm thinking of the hott tool to add rhinestones to a plain veil I want for a wedding renewal. The stones I have are for nail applications, do you think that would work? TY
The hot tool will only work with Hot fix rhinestones that have the glue on the back of the stone. I'm assuming the nail application rhinestones are not hot fix because that would burn the nail. I'd recommend just getting glue to apply the rhinestones unless you want to buy hot fix rhinestones to go with the hot tool.
Just make sure to rhinestone in a well ventilated area or with a ventilator, E6000 is highly toxic and costume creation is not worth more than your health.
I hand wash all of the costumes that I can physically wash and therefore no, but the majority of my costumes do not get washed but get spot cleaned and fabreezed or vodka sprayed to kill any bacteria.
@@CaseyReneeCosplay ok thank you! but I would not use the rhinestones on costumes I would use them on normal tshirts so to wash then regularly would they come off
@@marymcdowelll the bottle says it's permanent, most fabric glues are pretty sturdy in the wash. If you buy shirts at the store that have rhinestones and wash them, they don't come off, I think this would be the same scenario. I want to make rhinestone heels so I'm gonna try this glue out too lol
I think gem tac is a littler cheaper than e6000 as well, I know it is in the US I don't know the pricing difference in the Netherlands but even if it's only a little less saving money is always nice lol

What material is the board you have in the table?

You can use the tool they use with diamond painting and the wax. That is how I do it when I am using gem tac, which is my preferred method.
Yeah I bought one and it broke, back to using my fingers for me.
What tool is that, may I ask?
I used gem tac on a sweatshirt. Rhinestones fell off before I washed it. Tried E6000 - same result. I'll never use either one again.

I mention 2 kinds in the video so I am not exactly sure which one you are referring to, but e6000 is the highly toxic glue that leaves a residue on silk and GemTac is the safe alternative that dries clear, this is the one that I personally use.
Do all rhinestones have the glue on the bottom of them? I really want to try doing something my else but know nothing 😂 glad I found you channel!
Only hotfix rhinestones have the hotfix glue on the back, you can purchase rhinestones without glue.
@@CaseyReneeCosplay thank you!
Hi Casey, love your work! Was just wondering if you know whether rhinestones are okay to be glued or hot glued onto velour?
Thank you very much, I don't know from personal experience but I would imagine that hot fix will not work on velour since the heat will harm the "pile" of the fabric but I'd recommend doing a test with gem tac glue. If you are constructing the garment yourself then use a scrap if you are using a already constructed garment, find a hem or somewhere on the garment with isn't visible or gets little to no attention and try one stone and make your decision based off of that.
Where can you buy gem tac
I believe it’s sold at Joann fabrics but I get it on Amazon
Thx for your video am making my daughter's competition costume and never glued sparkles so think I won't use the heat at this occasion 😁
Glad it was helpful!
E6000 Fabri-Fuse I like to use on stretch fabrics for ringtones. So far so good!
Just make sure to rhinestone in a well ventilated area or with a ventilator, E6000 is highly toxic and costume creation is not worth more than your health.
Casey Renee Cosplay 😁 it’s not the regular 36000, Fabri-Fuse is like a gel instead of straight up Silicone like the Original E6000.
Which is cheaper?
Gemtac
do the rhinestones come off in the wash??
The eBay link in your blog is no longer valid. Can you direct me to another link or eBay seller please?
Unfortunately, I haven't found a replacement link for that seller or bought rhinestones off of eBay in several years.
@@CaseyReneeCosplay that’s too bad. How about on Amazon? Any helpful links? Much appreciated for any help.
I knew right where to come when I wanted to know the best way to attach rhinestones to my next Cosplay!
Oh hi love!!! You can always just give me call too if you need more information, I gotchu boo!
Thank you for this video!! I didn't realize the 6000 glue is so toxic 😳 I should try to look for the other glue :)
I think gem tac is a littler cheaper than e6000 as well, I know it is in the US I don't know the pricing difference in the Netherlands but even if it's only a little less saving money is always nice lol
Hope to seal rhinestones without making them cloudy
Thank you for sharing. :)
Love it
I have that dress!!! 😍
Thank you!
This was helpful! Thanks
You’re welcome!
Thank youuu!!!
You’re welcome!
You need a crystal katana tool
I’m pretty happy with the tools I use and the way I do things, thanks though.
I find it so hard to buy rhinestones. Every place has a couple of colors or no hotfix or not the right size. Some are not glass, some are etc etc.
Hii i love your video 🥰
Aww thank you so much!
I just realized! Is that a she ra costume!!!
Haha yeah I used my SheRa as the example for this video.
every time I use hot fix tools some of the rhinestones are falling off. gem tac is the best way.
