Bryce, I really appreciate that you have branched out to include housing opportunities beyond the tiny house on wheels. So many people who live in cities, where the opportunity to park a tiny home frankly just doesn't exist, are desperately interested in exploring alternative housing solutions. The need for affordable, ecologically efficient housing is so great and you are doing a yeomans job of carrying the torch for this movement. Thank you for all you do!
The problem I've found, on the other side of Canada(Newfoundland), usually isn't the housing itself, its the land. I can build a home for a decent price of about 80 grand. But the land is so expensive that it doesn't make it worth it. I looked into land for myself, and for a small 1500 sq foot plot of land its 130 grand and it only gets worse as you move further in the city, where some plots can be as high as 400 grand.
@@livingbig I would definitely welcome other small alternatives that are outside the strictly "tiny home" category. I have enjoyed all your videos but options are needed!
I myself am looking at building small- not necessarily tiny - not that far from Vancouver in Point Roberts. Smaller cottage style homes are a great option for affordability and urban infill. There are undoubtedly a large number of people who want 400-800 sq feet in a detached home and there are few available.
bjt1956: You state beautifully my thoughts and feelings; I look forward to seeing more of these clever solutions! (I think I may like this charming home more than the owners😊)
Yeah here in Africa homes on wheels are just not even there. So this is quite good and converting a shipping container is almost the same as the size of a house like this so you'd rather just build.
People complaining about how big this house is really need to stop and think. It’s important to show varying ranges of small home living so that people who might not otherwise consider it can see how customizable it can be. 200 sq ft isn’t for everyone and that’s okay. Everyone can get off their high horses and realize that this is is about finding abundance in less space and materials, not squeezing yourself into the smallest place possible.
By UK standards this is not a small house. I live in a two bedroom bungalow and this property is much bigger. This would probably be described as spacious. The problem I have with this video is that the couple talk about the house as if it is small, when in fact there's PLENTY of space for two people. It is only small in relation to the properties around it. At least they appreciate how lucky they are to own a lovely house in an expensive because of the generosity of her parents. The cynic in me wonders if they were able to get planning permission because they only have two neighbours and one is her parents.
@@terrybaby6146 Yes, it is all relative. But Bryce is showing us this property and I personally don't think it is a good fit for his channel. Surely even in Vancouver there are smaller houses that are not considered as unusual?
@@TheTinKunt As I said before my comment is about my personal opinion on this video as a good fit for Bryce's channel. It was also a reply to the OP who is telling off people who complain about the house being big. This is not small home living for two people. Bryce has spent several years showing us tiny homes from different countries including some in Japan, so we've seen how people make good use of their space. He asked last week if his subscribers liked seeing these larger properties. I like looking at how people organise their homes and this home is lovely. But it is not small let alone tiny.
Maddi Martinez I agree that it isn't about getting things as tiny as possible, but to many the house that is shown seems like a normal house. His channel is open to the whole world meaning that people from other places where this would be considered a normal size home, might point that out. Thus to them showing a home this size seems like showing a normal appartment instead of a real treasure tiny home (like many of his videos are, love his videos myself) Personally I agree with people that say that this house is not really tiny. To me this is the size of a small apartment/house. The rooms seem rather spacious and it seems like they have plenty of room left. Due to this last bit I find it less interesting myself. Though I do still love seeung all the new and innovating ways that are available to live more tiny.
It IS kinda hard to believe that this is only 500 sq. feet, owning a house that’s 4 times that size. However, we raised 2 children and now that they’re adults, we have our grandson’s stuff everywhere. It’s very true that a tidy house is a bigger house, and I’m a wheelchair user, (because of a spinal cord injury), so I love a tidy house. I can’t stand things being left on the floor…so I just run them over. This is a great video, showcasing the alternatives to being a slave to a mortgage in a tiny apartment. Thanks to everyone who shared in making this video.
This looks big compared to the typical "tiny" house (esp since it's not got the long & narrow issue), but it's actually more along what I've been looking for. Small homes with a foundation (like mother-in-law houses) that are efficient, but comfortable. I'd love to see more like these!
We feature lots of different homes, they aren't all tiny per-say, often they fall into the small home category. What we are looking for is great design and nice efficient use of space to showcase.
@@livingbig Those are the reasons I watch your channel. I'm a sucker for the artistic ones too. I like the variety of sizes you show because everyone absolutely cannot live in a very tiny house, but people many more could and would live in a small home. I'm thinking of the wheelchair bound individuals and ambulatory people who still have severely limited and painful mobility. I'd love it if you'd show people with handicap accessibility issues ( such as those two aforementioned groups) living beautifully comfortably, and affordably . In their cases, I think it should count as tiny living, relative to their life situation.
I love smaller houses in general. I hope more places allow for smaller, more affordable houses around this size. Affordable housing leads to happier lives.
I couldn't agree more. It's really hard for middle class people to afford nearly anything on the typical market these days, and smaller houses are fantastic!
This is my hope as well. Right now, this is the only impediment to my building a tiny home. I own an 1800 sq ft. home that's such a huge waste of space & money as it's just myself & my dog. I also own a condo which I rent out but no longer want to be a landlord. Here on the east coast, tiny homes aren't acceptable by zoning regulations/requirements despite the needs of residents. Time for some real global changes given our environmental crisis.
Exactly. Were it not for all the regulations that make this so difficult I would have bought a tiny house a long time ago. The stupidest thing is that it is often illegal because their insulation values are not as good (since a smaller volume means more outward facing walls and thus worse insulation) even though I would still only need a fraction of the energy to heat it. I can buy a big house that needs 5 times the energy without a problem. but I can't get a tiny house.
The town near me requires a minimum of 2500 sq ft. It's ridiculous. If you want a reasonably sized house, you have to luck out and buy one of the old 1 or 2 bedroom houses built in the 40's and 50's when things were slightly less insane, or build outside of town.

LOVE that this channel does ‘small’ houses as well as ‘tiny’ ones, as not everyone wants tiny. Everyone saying ‘it’s bigger than my apartment’ etc. yeah... It’s not supposed to reflect apartments!!... they are a thing all of their own. Smaller homes are meant to reflect traditional homes. Also, the filming style probably makes it look larger than it is.

Kudos to her Mum for her amazing, lush and beautiful landscaping!! It's GORGEOUS! I LOVE THAT HOUSE IS RED!!! This has to be one of, if not my VERY FAVORITE of all the houses you've shown, Bryce. I also loved the South Coast Container House... (largely perhaps because of how they integrated the deck with the over-shooting roof. WOWSA. How incredibly rare to have such a gorgeously designed home, in an equally gorgeous location, surrounded by gorgeous gardens (bless you Mum!), with the blessing of family next door, and that fits its inhabitants' needs so perfectly! These folks are ridiculously blessed!! GOOD FOR THEM!
It's nice to have a square house. Having an upstairs bedroom with full height is also great. These multigenerational options are my favorites because of the social aspect of the family staying together through the ages. I am sure everyone benefits from this arrangement.
This is probably the first tiny house I could actually see myself living in. (And maybe even convince my husband to live in too) The space is perfect! And it does really help to see a fellow creative have a gorgeous studio space (something I always think about in these videos haha). This house is actually probably a bit bigger than my current apartment anyway.
Just keep in mind that when you own a home, any home, you have to pay property tax and homeowners insurance. Those two things alone double the amount of our mortgage payment.
Bryce we really like the way this couple design this house. I really like the way that you can actually stand up in the bedroom and can get around both sides of the bed without crawling over each other. Well done 2 thumbs👍👍 up for this couple
40 years ago I built a small 2-bedroom house for my young son and myself in a island nation in a development area the lot was about 4k square feet and was the smallest house there because everyone had built to the maximum allowed by planning rules where small is generally frown upon by all and everyone thought I was crazy because it was small but I was looking to keep living to within my single parent means of the day fast forward to today I still want to go down smaller to studio Apartment for just me in my senior years having had a crippling CVA and ended up with very limited mobility and other health challenges so smaller makes even more sense with reduced income and forced early retirement. I can now use the extra space on the same lot to add on to existing small house the studio apartment that I need to use. I never planned this health outcome but my early decision to go small pays big dividends in hindsight what a winning idea for me in my senior years
This is such a beautiful balcony to have in tiny house! In most tiny homes, you have to sacrifice either some space or the other- be it bathroom, your bedroom or kitchen. This house has perfect utilisation of the area. Kudos to whoever designed this beautiful home. I don't see any compromise in any space. They've got a separate workspace, it is not a part of the lounge area. They have all devices in kitchen. Theirs is a life of luxury. Even their bedroom didn't feel small at all!
This little house is freaking amazing! I also like the T shirt the guy's wearing. 280k for a dream home in Vancouver next to a park, OMG, you guys had done the impossible.
@@mr.potatohead6138 they "arranged with her parents" which means that they are allowed to visit the grandchildren xD no kidding tho, without parents' property most of those tiny houses wouldn't be feasable
XxXStoneFingerXxX Well since they don’t own the land they can’t get a mortgage to build the house so the parents had to refinance their home to cover the cost of building. I’m sure they make the payments though. I’d assume there are provisions in a will to cover what happens when both parents are deceased.
Beautiful house, so many clever things, love that it is two levels and the amount of windows just makes it appear so much larger than it's under 500 square feet. I also love how they have decorated it to fit them, amazing for sure. Thanks so much Bryce for sharing this video I truly was enjoying every moment.
Just watched this tonight with my mom an my birds. My lovebird Linus, she got excited every time she saw the conures or anything with a bird on it. Definitely will be rewatching with her again. 😃
This is one of my favourite tiny houses so far. The owners seem so kind. I absolutely love the design, the birds and the fact that they were adopted, that makes the house 10x better.
Wow, I have family near there and knew values were sky high but that's more than even I thought. Amazed to realize we have 8 acres with 3 bed home for about 1/20th the cost of their lot. I am so thankful.
What a great home. It's nice to see a place where people have lived there for a while and made it their own. I realize that spartan seems to be "in" but not all of us live with that philosophy. These folks seem very happily moved in and settled. But you can keep the birds! lol
These episodes with small homes instead of tiny ones are my absolute favorite. It's really nice to see happy mediums that are still drastically smaller than the average home. Thank you Bryce!!!

I live with my daughter and her fiance in a 1 bedroom. We're prepping to do a tiny house village. With big community bldg with full size kitchen and hot tub. Being a pastry chef. I'm planning to do community meals so if you don't want to cook there will always be a hot meal for less than McDonald's

Brilliant use of space, and what a beautiful couple, and an amazing home they have made. Looks so cozy - and a view of a park from the upper level is certainly icing on the cake! Thanks Bryce for finding their home for me to enjoy via RUclips! Keep up the great work!
What a lovely, cozy home! The balcony overlooking the park and the garden between their house and her parents' house make it perfect. I love the idea of using family property like that and being able to have them nearby. It's so great that Vancouver zoned for this kind of build!

46 square meters will be considered as medium house here in the outskirts of cities of Indonesia.. The typical sizes here are 30 to 36 square meters, which are government programme known as "program perumahan rakyat (people houses programme)" to help the "low income" people like me to own a house with affordable installments. But i like the vibe of this house.. definitely gonna copy some set up.. Good job Bryce..
I like your broadening your channel to include small cottages. This one is a gem. Dropping in after 7 years of residency proves the wisdom of the design decisions.
The space is unbelievable and amazing and the red umbrella rooftop balcony and garden yard is to die for! That’s a slice of heaven for me!!! If I can ever afford a tiny house I want that home design!
@@aldofhister6859 Thank you for sharing your opinion about tiny homes and smaller dwellings. Many people are happy living this way. What works for others might not work for you and that's okay. There's room for all styles of living at the table.
I am in love with this house. Gorgeous. Love the industrial cart and cool pantry. So many wonderful features packed into this space. I love the balcony and that she has room for a studio as well as having a decent size bedroom. Homes like this definitely make sense. A different way of looking at space. It is not only practical for large cities but for anyone who really only wants a small house even in small town or rural area. So many towns require a certain sq footage for new builds. This needs to be reevaluated. Thanks for sharing this!
Such a brilliant solution and what a lovely home it is, close to relatives but still more than enough privacy. I really like the concept. One of the older suburbs in my city (Pretoria, South Africa) has done something similar with dividing and using the backyards opening onto lanes, but not many cities have that opportunity
The interior is clever, squeezing so much into so little, but I love the exterior! Not everyone would have the guts to do that raspberry red colour, it is so cool. And that balcony is so so cute and private.
This house looks modest, beautiful, and practical all at once. The decks and landscaping and office are well thought out and attractive. And I really appreciate it being a normal width so you wouldn't feel like you're constantly operating in a tunnel. I'd live there.
This house is awesome and I'm so happy for this couple but the fact that they had to build on someone else's $2 million dollar land is an incredible indictment against the failure of our economic system

Great Video, Bryce! So glad you are starting to include other types of living spaces on your channel! I'm always amazed at the almost endless ways a true "tiny" house can be configured, but there are so many other ways of downsizing and it only makes sense to include a wider variety of small housing solutions in your channel. This particular house is AMAZING and so well done! I just love the perfect home "nest" that combines tiny living with an onsite business as well. Such a creative use of resources - something like this might be a bit larger than we are used to seeing on your channel, but when you consider that this larger type of "tiny" house eliminates the need for commuting, then the overall environmental impact is quite significant. And when you consider the time and stress saved by supporting a second location for the business, and by not commuting, then this is actually a better solution than a tiny 200 sq ft house where you are driving to work each day. Tiny homes on wheels are great, but not right for everyone. This is just one other choice, and I love a variety of choices and a plethora of ideas.
Beautiful Tiny Home I love everything about it...thanks again Bryce and Rasa your channel is the best I get excited when I get notifications telling me I have a video to watch 🙂

Great job Bryce ! and kudos to the home owners blessings to them always.
I just love this place! It checks off all the boxes for me. First & foremost, the area. It has a quaint cozy feel to it. I love how the lane is connected with her parents, yet feels separate at the same time. The beautiful landscaping, & being able to overlook the park with the private balcony is just everything! I'm loving how they perfectly mixed modern, with older eclectic design. That just makes the home feel so unique w/ a one of a kind feel. Having a lot of windows & natural light is just paramount to a smaller space feeling more expansive, and they definitely achieved that. It's great how they both have their separate creative work spaces that fit all of their needs. Being able to live in such a great space, & work from home, and be able to travel....well, I think they are surely "livin' the life!"
Being next door to the aging parents is most amazing aspect of what they've done here and it's beautiful with landscaping so incredible it's like living in the forest.

@@mercynamikoye9084 Well, it is just the 2 of them and given their lifestyle, I can see why it looks good. They did speak of 'everything in it's place' also. Plus they knew this interview would be coming up. Wouldn't you want your place to look it's best if it was going to be taped and put on YT?
I love the clothes she designs especially the kimono 😍 The house is beautiful, too.
@TheBluearmy33 I am living in Germany and the rents are extremely high here as well. Seems like a world-wide problem ☹️
Laneway Houses are very smart and bravo to this couple and the lovely home they built
I think I found one of the best small homes ever!! Just fabulous!! Great couple as well.
This is a beautiful house with really smart use of space. And i love the table, thats a great idea.. Love it! ♥
The table is definitely a great design! Glad you enjoyed this tour. :)
This little house is freaking amazing! I also like the T shirt the guy's wearing. 280k for a dream home in Vancouver next to a park, OMG, you guys had done the impossible.
It is super cool but keep in mind they didn't have to purchase the land, that's where the biggest expense is in Vancouver.
@@mr.potatohead6138 You are right, the land alone would have costed more than 280k if they had to buy it.
I love Scott's concept which is correct that everything has its respective space..putting it away and not creating clutter..😉👍
I love how they both give each other a chance to talk
Just watched this tonight with my mom an my birds. My lovebird Linus, she got excited every time she saw the conures or anything with a bird on it.
Definitely will be rewatching with her again. 😃
Candy m 🥰 awww, so cool!
Now we are talking - I am looking forward to see more of this kind of houses; variations (balcony, omg) are wanted - more of these please!
This is one of my favourite tiny houses so far. The owners seem so kind. I absolutely love the design, the birds and the fact that they were adopted, that makes the house 10x better.
Lovely couple, Beautiful Home and yet another Great video from Living Big in a Tiny House. Thanks for Sharing.
Thanks Voyager! Glad you enjoyed it. :)
Great design! One of the few tiny houses that truly has an upstairs that doesn't feel like a compromise but truly a livable place for years.
Wow, I have family near there and knew values were sky high but that's more than even I thought. Amazed to realize we have 8 acres with 3 bed home for about 1/20th the cost of their lot. I am so thankful.
I am from India.. I am addicted to your channel and the positivity you spread through them... This house was so beautiful.. Full of warmth..
What a great home. It's nice to see a place where people have lived there for a while and made it their own. I realize that spartan seems to be "in" but not all of us live with that philosophy. These folks seem very happily moved in and settled. But you can keep the birds! lol
They have done a really great job of decorating this home. The birds are super fun to be around. They definitely made me laugh!
These episodes with small homes instead of tiny ones are my absolute favorite. It's really nice to see happy mediums that are still drastically smaller than the average home. Thank you Bryce!!!
Tiny on the outside, big on the inside. I love it. This is the best so far.
Refreshing to see people living in a smaller home for a long period of time! This looks lovely, comfortable, and truly livable.
Handy to have parents with property. Looks bigger than stated.
Annette, I know right!
Éven better to also have property with parents :)
It's definitely larger than stated. No way with the main living space, her office, his studio, and loft is 495 Sq ft!
@@katherinekan2435 I don't think they counted her studio because they called it the garage.
That's correct, the balcony and garage are not included in the 500 Sq ft.
So beautiful and unique artistic home, and practical at the same level, that is really rare. I love it and I like the couple, they are so nice people :)
I live with my parents in a 30m2 apartment this is luxury, LUXURY
I'm sure you got good ideas to build one your own.. You know a similar place being solo would be awesome
You should check out Never Too Small channel they have a lot of ideas for apartment living.
your profile picture is really pretty btw.
@@Vanessa-ge2dp my daughter is an anime artist 😊 thanks
I appreciate the fact that this channel shows different kinds of small houses, not just what is trendy at the moment. Not every house is for everybody, but keep an open mind and you can find clever ideas for your own projects, too. Great work!
Cosy looking home.inside out.loved the park overlook and the fact that her parents are close by.
Brilliant use of space, and what a beautiful couple, and an amazing home they have made. Looks so cozy - and a view of a park from the upper level is certainly icing on the cake! Thanks Bryce for finding their home for me to enjoy via RUclips! Keep up the great work!
The first shot of the house reminds me of a train Depot! I shared with my daughter and her husband, who are considering down sizing! Thanks Bryce!
Their house made my heart sing! Beautiful, unique, funky and serene. Laneway living in a small home is my dream. Thank you for sharing this place.
Definitely one of my absolute favorites ! And I totally love this couple and their creativity !
What a lovely, cozy home! The balcony overlooking the park and the garden between their house and her parents' house make it perfect. I love the idea of using family property like that and being able to have them nearby. It's so great that Vancouver zoned for this kind of build!
The way it is designed and its location with greenery around. It doesn't look small at all. Better than flats.
Beautiful home and area to live in. Really shows the personalities of two artistic people. Love the layout and exterior landscaping. Thank you so much Bryce and thank you Scott and Tania for allowing us to visit with you.
46m is a decent size house, yep! the people houses programme sounds really cool.
This one is really a lot bigger than square footage suggests. Smart layout planning and the balcony is a cherry on top!
I like your broadening your channel to include small cottages. This one is a gem. Dropping in after 7 years of residency proves the wisdom of the design decisions.
OMG... their kitchen is PERFECT.
Beautiful!! I love the countertops!! Love&Hugs
Both the house and couple have character :)
Awww.......I love that U have birds as pets. Too sweet. And your home is gorgeous.
Such a tastefully designed home.. I love it
The space is unbelievable and amazing and the red umbrella rooftop balcony and garden yard is to die for! That’s a slice of heaven for me!!! If I can ever afford a tiny house I want that home design!
I love their sense of style. Very cool small home.
This couple has done an amazing job with the build and design WOW. Thanks Brice
Beautiful laneway home with beautiful couple and clever table design
Men. ! Society has you kids nowadays so f***** up to think these tiny little f****** rooms and homes are livable.
@@aldofhister6859 Thank you for sharing your opinion about tiny homes and smaller dwellings. Many people are happy living this way. What works for others might not work for you and that's okay. There's room for all styles of living at the table.
@@lulutubes12 no. -not true! my old saying stands.
@@aldofhister6859 we are happy to live in a tiny house
@@Dd-dv9rb no you're not. !it's because you're young and you're single and have no kids
I think of all the tiny houses I've seen this has to be my favorite. Just beautiful.
Thank you bryce for taking us to another exciting adventure. All of your videos are wonderful and cudnt miss any of it.
Beautiful home and I couldn’t help but notice what great laughs the couple has! So open and happy sounding!
Your 🏡 is warm and LOVED and BEAUTIFUL. I love you clothes designs. Great 👍
As someone not interested in being mobile with my (hopeful) future tiny home, I LOVE episodes like this one.
This couple are aimply amazing.
This house is beautiful and someone did a lot of work with planting beautiful plants! So peaceful. I wish more homes were this size.
beautiful people, beautiful home, amazing use of space.
I love those trees and plants surrounding the house. Adds a cozy feeling
Thank you Bryce...yet another great video. This is a really special place. The garden is gorgeous... All my best to you and your sweetie! Thank you.
The interior is clever, squeezing so much into so little, but I love the exterior! Not everyone would have the guts to do that raspberry red colour, it is so cool. And that balcony is so so cute and private.
Perfect size! Need these legal all over the U.S
Such a lovely home and couple. Peaceful and love her clothes ideas. Thank you for visiting this brilliant home.
They’ve really chosen quality of life over quantity of house!
Her designs are so gorgeous! And such a Lovely home, loving how they integrate nature.
This place is so gorgeous & unique!
SO, SO beautiful!!!! It is nice that they realize how fortunate they are ❤️🌈
Yay!!! Coffee is on brew, tiny house time. Cheers Bryce!
Cheers Andy!!! :)
now i get to kw why thr are so many likes to this video in such a short period of time... this house is just awsome... and all credit goes to that couple and there vision and creativity... i love this home...😍
You come across the coolest people Bryce...I envy you
Great Video, Bryce!
The design of this house is beautiful .... I want it!!!
I love showcasing smaller space living compared to JUST tiny homes. Great find 👍🏼
After watching this channel I've fallen in love with tiny houses but I think I'm into the smaller house vibe
This is so far one of the best small houses I've ever seen.
Beautiful Tiny Home I love everything about it...thanks again Bryce and Rasa your channel is the best I get excited when I get notifications telling me I have a video to watch 🙂
ohhh MY guuudnesss !! That HOUSE !! that house is just Spectacular !!! I love it love it so dreamy cozy great space ,privacy and you don't feel closed off from anything or lack of space so to speak. I would love to have a home like that. That Price is not a bad thing either for Vancouver and the Equity will deffinitely pay off in the long run. Great job Bryce ! and kudos to the home owners blessings to them always.
The house is great! I love the full staircase! The parrots are adorable!
Thanks for letting us see inside your tiny home!
The furniture in this house is among the greatest I've seen.
