    I love the Portal. It's an absolute backlog destroyer. 14 games in less than 6 months just playing a couple of hours per day before going to bed. After the last update, the connection and video quality are amazing and never failed again.

      That’s good going! It takes me so long to complete a game these days.

    Here to say I also love mine. Had minor frustrations at first, but honestly the digging around I did in my router benefited our overall internet.

    I’ve recently bought myself a PS Portal and am absolutely loving it. It seems to be connecting just fine all around my home and I’m just using the normal BT router with no setting changes. (I do have Gigabit fibre though) I have a Nintendo Switch but always been an exclusive PS gamer until then. I get confused with the button layout on any controller that isn’t a PS controller and find the switch uncomfortable due to the stick placements. I love how the Portal is just a large DualSense and how I don’t have to buy any games to use it. I have my entire game collection Digital and I’ve been playing what ever game i last played on the PS5. I did consider a Steam Deck or ROG Ally but was put off buy the much larger price and the fact I’d have to buy a new collection of games. Plus the form factor is the biggest pro for me with the portal. Just feels so natural to use 🙏

      The DualSense is still the best controller of this gen as well.

      BT router is amazing, I switched to virgin and my speed is 5x what it was on bt, but performance generally is worse.
      Virgin hub 3 is shit and couldn't even get signal outside living room consistently in my two bed flat.
      Under BT I could get consistent signal throughout flat.
      Gigabit broadband will help though fit sure, especially if others in house using broadband.
      I made a discovery other day whilst my wife was watching 4k stream on prime in living room, and I noticed my connection kept dropping out whilst sat in same room as virgin hub.
      I couldn't get decent connection for love nor money.
      Then as soon as I turned Amazon off, it went to being crystal clear image again.
      It made me think about when I'm using the portal, and it's usually whilst my wife is streaming TV shows or films.
      Maybe, just maybe 15mbs is sufficient in a room where router is and you have no one else using internet for anything, but I think those claims were really misleading by Sony.
      I was this close to getting rid of my portal and getting a steam deck oled and using Chiakki for deck instead, as I heard the better wireless receiver on it helps and people who struggled with portal had some luck with deck. (I heard others had issues anyway though with Chiakki).
      I have therefore upgraded my internet and have a better quality router on its way, as seemingly the bandwidth suffers too much using streaming and trying to use portal at same time.
      Annoying, but as we don't have a TV package and use broadband for work etc, I figure it's worth paying extra.
      Like yourself, I have found handheld gaming a saviour for my gaming needs, I still like occasional blast and am generally happier playing this way, even if TV is free to use. I feel better sitting with my wife playing whilst she watches TV or in bed together, as I feel we are not completely isolated from each other.
      I would prefer if it was independent hardware that I could use separately of WiFi, as you can still feel the input lag, but I'm already seeing steam deck not having the power to run some newer games and generally they have to be run at lowest settings if they do run.
      On top of this, I would need to buy games again as well a shell out 600 quid for the oled deck and have shorter battery life and it would be less simple to connect to ps5.
      I considered a rog ally x, but looking into the general set up and drivers updates and blah blah, not what I wanted right now.
      I used to pc game previously, but I can't be bothered with it all any more.
      It was steam deck or bust for simplicity.
      If steam deck 2 was about with reasonable hardware and simplicity, I would take the plunge, but I'm not spending £600 to play indy games or paired back PS4 games.
      I don't travel and game as I drive and work from home, so it's perfect for home use, and fingers crossed that with better internet and router, this should alleviate the worst of issues.
      I would highly recommend anyone who is on low speeds to increase your speeds if you intend to buy over and if you have ok speeds, make sure you have decent router.
      The ones isp providers will hand out generally are crap, and if you haven't got decent router (even 60-80 pounds one is good enough), then you will need one or to have extenders through home and make sure no one is using internet to watch uhd content, as it will cause you issues.
      If not, it's a slightly overpriced little device, which if it had oled screen would have been absolutely brilliant little piece of kit.
      I really love it when it's working, just took me ages to figure out the major sticking point to getting it to function.

    I absolutely love the portal. I just got it not too long ago and I did not have high expectations at all. I am completely blown away with how much better streaming games is over the portal than on my phone. I’m glad that I did not listen to any of the early adopters and waited and made my own decision with buying it because it is a great device. I recommend a lot of people would like it at home.

    Finally someone made this video, this hits home so much. I restored the gamer in me with the Steam Deck but only after Portal I made the most out of a handheld.
    I’ve used Nintendo Switch, Backbone, and Steam Deck before Portal but none of them is even closer to Portal in terms of ergonomics (I injured my hands several times with others…) and the image quality. Not the mention the amazing hardware behind the curtains.
    It’s also showing how the tech reviews can be a bunch of crap just because people expected something else. Clearly Sony didn’t want to make a portable device and targeted people like us who is at home but too lazy to boot up PS and captivate the largest screen at home 😅
    Lastly, playing some FPS games on TV was giving me nausea which is something I don’t get when playing on Portal. Best purchase I’ve made recently, and thank your for the honest review.

    • @IntentionalTech
      @IntentionalTech  4 месяца назад

      Thanks for sharing. The ergonomics are definitely way better than those other controllers / systems.
      I agree and I also can’t see Sony releasing a separate handheld console that needs to support its own games etc. If you take the Portal as what it is, then it’s a great option for a lot of people.

    Some game like Spider-man, automatically pause game as soon as controller gets disconnected. Because remote play is external controller, it happens with disconnection also. This should be built in all the games.

    • @IntentionalTech
      @IntentionalTech  4 месяца назад

      Good to know. Maybe it happens if you have another controller connected for some reason or are playing online then. You can’t actually pause Elden Ring for example.

      @@IntentionalTech True. But also lot of games doesn't have this built in. For example I was playing Stellar Blade but when disconnect from remote play it still plays on. Btw one more thing (not sure) but when you connect remote play all connected controller gets disconnected

    Now that im in my 30s, I absolutely relate with concern about the kind of games these days... I prefer a human story game compared to the endless catalogue of monster slaying, magic, hack and slash fantasy games. And Naughty Dog and Rockstar take way too long to cook up their games.

    Imagine in the future we have portal. It can run game natively BUT ALL in lowest of the lowest setting. The connection to the PS5 is to enhance the graphic. So you kinda don't really need that massive internet speed on your portal since all it does is downloading 1080p video and uploading input. It is the PS5 at home who needs more stable connection.
    Come with dual sense edge version that you can change it's analog if it went drift, or use hall effect instead.
    Also using OLED screen.

    • @IntentionalTech
      @IntentionalTech  3 месяца назад

      According to the Eero app, download speed today has been 984 Mbps, upload speed of 955 Mbps. We used to get a lot less than that on Sky, which is what I originally played the Portal on.
