  • Orthopaedic surgeon, sports medicine specialist Dr. Chris Raynor shares some general tips for how he is going to optimize and expedite his post-operative recovery after having arthroscopic knee surgery, tips that he also gives to his patients when appropriate.
In this video, he gives specific post operative tips of what to do the DAY OF surgery. In other videos, he will talk about the importance of achieving full extension, full flexion, and normal quadricep activation of the operative knee as soon as possible following surgery, and he will demonstrate a few exercises for each that he is using in his own rehab, ones that he would typically prescribe to his own patients (when applicable) for the first few days and weeks post surgery.

This is probably the most informative video I've seen. Just got surgery done hours ago, and I felt like the doctor and nurses were rushing to get as many surgeries as possible and not really explaining properly what after care consisted of.

    THANK YOU DOCTOR RAYNOR!
THESE QUESTIONS GO OUT TO ANYONE WHO CAN ANSWER THESE AND I HOPE EVERYONE HAS A SPEEDY RECOVERY:
10 weeks after your meniscectomy were you able to bend your leg all the way back as far as your right leg bends back? Or are you only able to bend it about 90°? And on bending it about 90° did you feel pressure in the knee? Did you still have some swelling of the knee? Were you easily able to walk up and down steps or did you still have a limited range that made it difficult?
This is my situation. I'm trying to get an idea of all of this through searching online different resources.
    I'm going through PT now.

He would be in another country! I was hoping he was in the states because he sounds like a great doctor. I'm set to have surgery next month, but I already want to chicken out. 🙏🏾 😔

Update: I went back to work, ( I'm a delivery driver(, and most of my range of mobility came back the next day! I think with me using my knee differently, it was a form of rehab I also purchased an awesome knee brace, that pro athletes use so they can continue playing their sport. However, the doctor told me my knee will look different, because of the trimming of my knee meniscus tissue.

I've had mine done 6 weeks ago, and even though I can walk, I only have 90% flexion in my right kneeIt just won't go past a certain point now. There's a pinching pain when I go downstairs, and the outside of my knee is a little painful after exercises. My knee also looks somewhat deformed, and is no longer symmetrical. I hope this changes

The first month was the most mentally and physically challenging situation that I've ever been in! But now that I've slowly started to acclimate myself back to normal activities, I am doing better. Getting cortisone injections REALLY helps! 🙏🏾
