    57:56 - Cell is... different.
    Most of the villains in Dragonball kill people. Freeza blew up whole inhabited planets. But Cell was killing people by stabbing them with his tail, sucking them up, and he emptied entire cities in this way. Millions of people shanked and ingested. Death is always worse when it takes its time.

      @sketchydude8431 2 года назад +28

      I mean tbf, Freeza sometimes beats and stabs people. But I don't think that's as bad as having your organs, bones and entire body in general being liquified and drank up

      @John_Smith. 2 года назад +25

      Also, there's that trite old saying, "One death is a tragedy, a million deaths a statistic." The devastation Cell leaves behind is more personal. And that makes it matter more to us. Just the way our brains work.

      The Android 18 vs Vegeta Beatdown will always be my #1 and unfortunately also marks the point where DBZ shows you that it doesn't like having bad ass female characters for very long.
      Say what you will about how 'good' 18's final fight was in the ToP, the fact she sprains an ankle is just laughable to think about when you consider she was literally made to be the a perfect fighting machine to kill Goku, and yet Gero's critical design flaw with her was giving 18 incredibly weak ankles apparently, unfortunate for Vegeta that he didn't find that one weakness when he was getting both of his arms broken by her.
      Honorable mention to Mr. Satan vs Perfect Cell, that bug creep didn't stand a chance against the champ.

      Good idea! Especially considering that most fights after Vegeta's introduction kind of devolved into this with a slice of Goku ex machina to keep the good guys winning.
      @Blue Blaze King
      DEFINITELY HAS TO BE COVERED! At some point! Bit of a side-note but I'm still waiting for a source on that instrumental version of the OG dragonball opening "Makafushigi Adobenchā!/Mystical Adventure!" that TFS used as an intro to all of their DBCembers.
      And here's a suggestion of my own:
      Seeing how they did GT so dirty so often, why not get Kiren, Grant and some other GT-apologist and let them count up/down their 6 best/worst moments. All the good, the bad and the ugly with their personal impressions and ways to fix what's broken on the side.
      I'm not a fan of GT, but at this point it deserves some love, despite being the underachieving middle-child of the series (well at least if you were to group OG DB and Z together, which some people do).
      You've kicked it while it's down. So why not give GT some love?
      Also... if this has more to do with Toei's recent "handling" of their "copyright privileges" (happy you managed to survive that, not-Mark), I understand your decision to pull out.
      ... Does make me concerned for DBA's Buu arc though, not gonna lie...

    It's honestly a little sad seeing DBcember leave, but after many years of top 24 and top 12 countdowns, it's fitting that the last one would be about the sagas of the franchise. I love hearing these topics and listen to the majority of the previous ones for the last couple years because Dragon Ball has been a staple of many of our childhoods and adulthoods. This may be an end of an era, but I know TFS has more to offer in the future. Sayonara DBcember, you will not be forgotten.

  • @mkt568
    @mkt568 2 года назад +91

    Might as well make my own list if you guys are done with DBCember.
    TOP 12 GOOD THINGS FROM DRAGON BALL GT
    #12 The Animation - Having been working on the franchise for a decade by this point, this animation team has slowly grown over time and improved their work to a point that makes plenty of GT’s animation look stunning. Character designs are also very top notch, and we can thank Toriyama for helping with initial character designs.
    #11 The Original Japanese Score - Kikuchi is a tough act to follow, but I think Akihito Tokunaga really pulled off some really fantastic tunes on his run, especially the banger that is Dan Dan Kokoro Hikareteku and the tear-jerkingly beautiful ending Sabitsuita Machine Gun.
    #10 Goten and Trunks as Adults - Let’s be real, the fact fact that these two remain kids in Super is just moronic. In GT meanwhile, we see Trunks become President of Capsule Corp, but yearn to have a little freedom and excitement. Needless to say he gets it with his tour of the galaxy with Goku and Pan. Plus, he ain’t half bad when it comes to tools. Goten in the meantime, gets a very unique girlfriend (by Saiyan Standards) in Valeese, and I really like that he just doesn’t end up with someone who has a fiery personality like Chi-Chi or Videl. Sure, I do think it’s a shame Goten was left behind on Earth and we never see them as Gotenks, but I appreciate them doing something new with these characters.
    #9 The Universe Building - I hate the multiverse concept of Super mostly because they only do the bare minimum of it. IMO, the TOP doesn’t really feel any different from the Other World Tournament on a larger scale thanks to the variety of fighters. GT actually gives enough of a damn to actually explore a post Frieza Force universe and show us all the new things that came up in the Quarter Century since he and his father died on Earth, including the dictatorship on Imecka, the Cult of Luud, a full blown hospital planet, and the potential mechanical empire of Dr Myuu. They really did put a good amount of effort into this Universe Building and I greatly appreciate it.
    #8 Vegeta being a Total Dad - I’m gonna be short here, but any interactions between Vegeta and Bulla are just hilarious to me, whether her complaining that his mustache makes him look like a total geek or when he yanks the steering wheel out of the car of those teens flirting with Bulla, Vegeta is dedicated to his little Saiyan Princess.
    #7 Making the Dragon Balls Vital to the Narrative - While they served the driving force of the narrative up to the Namek saga, from Cell all the way into Super, the Dragon Balls have been reduced to a mere mcguffin to fix any problems our heroes face. Heck, the wishes they want in Super, whether it’s asking Shenron about the SSG, Healing Pan’s cold, Bulma making herself younger, or Frieza pulling a Commander Red, is just an embarrassing use of them. GT however, raises the stakes with the negative effect of the Black Star Balls and thus give them central focus on the first arc of GT. And of course there’s also the Shadow Dragons, an amazing concept even if it wasn’t executed the best until, in my opinion, Naturon.
    #6 The Concept of Baby and the Tuffles - Baby’s story is one of revenge, and it’s pretty effectively done with turning nearly the entire population of Earth against our heroes, pushing Goku to the point where he nearly dies, and providing backstory of the Saiyans homeworld before their ultimate demise. It is a little over convoluted admittedly, so that does keep it out of the top 5.
    #5 Piccolo’s Sacrifice - In my mind, this is Piccolo’s best Death. We see him save a little boy and his dog before helping Goku, giving a heartfelt goodbye to Gohan, and choosing to die with the Earth so the Black Star Balls can never be used again, leaving actual consequences. Plus his death actually helps Goku with escaping Hell in the Super 17 arc.
    #4 A Hero’s Legacy - Let’s be honest, this Special was only left out of TFS’s Top 24 Movies and Specials because of Kaiser’s Hate-On for GT, but if they included it, I think it would definitely be above the bottom third of the list. I enjoyed seeing Goku Jr grow in Courage and Strength on his journey to Mt Paozu, rightfully earning Super Saiyan when he needed it against Yaō, and its ending of him meeting Goku and receiving the 4 Star Ball is just beautiful.
    #3 The Transformations - Goku becoming a Golden Oozaru is a big deal since it’s the first time we’ve seen the Oozaru since the Saiyan Saga in Z, and Goku specifically since the 21st World Martial Arts Tournament. And thanks to Pan’s heartfelt words (side not, I don’t think Pan is annoying in GT), he is also able to regain himself and achieve Super Saiyan 4, the best transformation narratively when it comes to defining Saiyans as Alien Monkeys. There’s also the absolute power trip of SSJ4 Gogeta, if only he didn’t mess around with Omega Shenron that much.
    #2 Goku’s Characterization - Say what you want about Goku becoming a kid again, but he’s shown here as a very tactical fighter, cares immensely for his friends and family, and accepts the responsibility of his actions and does his best to correct them! GT understands how a post Buu Goku should act way better than Super ever does!
    #1 The Finale - Like everyone else, I agree that GT’s finale is the best in the series. The Universal Spirit Bomb is the perfect move to take down Omega Shenron, Goku leaving with Shenron feels right, as is Earth finally recognizing him as a hero 100 years later. Speaking of, we see the next generation of Goku Jr and Vegeta Jr show that Earth will be in good hands. But if darkness ever truly falls, we know Goku, now a spiritual guardian of the Dragon Balls, will return.

      I think I will add my own, but these are more character moments more than anything. Not necessarily fighting related nor limited to a single character.
      12: Roshi's Kamehameha in the ToP. Ge is ever the teacher.
      11: Goku meeting with Grandpa Gohan at Baba's Place.
      10: Zamasu being hakai'd by Beerus. And to a lesser extent when he Hakai's Dr Mashirito.
      9: SSJ4 Gogeta. I do not like GT mostly, but I do love the SSJ4 design.
      8: King Piccolo's introduction. He is just this imposing old green slug who has everyone cowering before him.
      7: Goku's victory in the 23rd Tenkaichi. He is just so happy and it ends with him and his new bride departing on a new adventure.
      6: Trunks appearing and bi-secting Freeza. Everything about his introduction was on point.
      5: Krillin and Goku first training under Roshi. There is something endlessly endearing seeing Krillin's smug ass consistently putting one over on Goku.
      4: The driving filler. When DB filler is bad, it's really bad. The driving episode is not bad.
      3: Vegeta's final atonement. I mean it was ultimately for naught, but it was a spectacle as a teen.
      2: Vegeta and Goku first face off. The proud elite looking down upon the lowly hero.
      1: Goku goes Super Saiyan against Freeza. Cliche here, but I ain't gonna lie and act like Goku's transformation never influenced me.

This video is very well written, and I’m not ashamed to say that you guys managed to make me cry… more than once, so thank you for this Top 12 which reminded me of how huge is Dragon Ball Z, and how much I love this anime. I loved the red ribbon saga and I think it’s one of Toriyama favorite’s too as there’s still consequences from his arc that keeps showing up in Super and Superheroes. But mostly the true show of love from the author to that saga is how he brought back all those friends Goku made during that arc for the final genkidama in what we believe at the time to be the last major fight of Dragon Ball. If that’s not a love letter to that arc then what is?

    Something about DBCember that I wasn't expecting, was it made me re-frame GT in my mind. Full disclosure: I've never actually fully watched GT. I saw what episodes I could when it was on Nicktoons, but that left a lot of holes that I never bothered to fill. But hearing you guys talk about Baby and the Shadow Dragons in your villains countdown, as well as Kiran's love letter to Super Saiyan 4 in the Transformations countdown, it inspired me to go back to GT and watch it from start to finish. And I'm really happy that you guys did.

    I agree with everything you said about the Buu arc except the stuff relating to Vegeta's betrayal. Arguably the most powerful character moments for Vegeta in the entire show and respects his character. They're logical decisions a guy like Vegeta would make but at the same time acknowledges that he has changed and isn't a complete asshole anymore. He's still a ruthless bastard at heart but his time on Earth put some good inside him as well and while he hates to admit it he loves his son, his wife, and the planet. It's a very nihilistic look at his character honestly, free of the constraints of "talk-no-justu" style character development you see in Dragon Ball Z and Naruto. Vegeta understands that what he is doing is wrong and evil and you can see he actually cares for his family and Earth, but at the same time the planet destroying tyrant with an inferiority complex is still there.
    It respects Vegeta as a character as he was introduced and also acknowledges that he's changed, unlike basically everything else about his characterization in say something like Super where he has been reduced to Piccolo but with spikey hair. Vegeta was introduced as a planet destroying evil monster.

    Thank you TFS for all the wonderful memories filled with Love and Laughter.
    I'm thankful that as DBCember progressed your opinions on certain entries has softened. Sure some are right to be criticized, but going from 2014's Dbcember where GT was left out entirely and treated as not worthy of being on the list "because it sucked"
    To slowly allowing future videos to elaborate on what GT had that DID work (in concept) and even allowing 1 section from 2020's entry to be dedicated and talked about by a GT fan.
    It really shows that not every opinion is set in stone and that they can soften and be re-evaluated to a degree.
    and I'm happy you guys have at least welcomed GT as a "it's not good, but it has some worth to it" instead of being like certain opinions where they trash something and declare it as "This is Garbage and Here's Why".
    Also I'm so happy you guys are helping Mark out by plugging his channel and his reviews to help them through the rough patch they are in. This is what being in a community should be about, helping each other however we can. Love and Laughter always

    The end of an era. While I am glad you guys are getting more "official" (whatever that means, not meaning that in a bad way) work, like the Hells dub, TFS to me will always be known as the creators of a fan-based parody. I know you guys will continue to put out great work like your TFS at the table content and Unabridged because you put so much love and passion into things like DBZA and DBCember. I am sure that one day your original content will be loved by fans enough that they do their own fan-based parody of your content. Keep rockin on.

    i think the red ribbon army arc is GROSSLY underrated, even by you guys. the red ribbon army turned the show from a peppy comedy, into a truly epic action adventure series. with real stakes and genuine risk to the cast. opening with the destruction of the pilaf gang (by use of sheer air power) is such a powerful way to show how much the show was about to change. the funny little gremlin comedy group just got bombed to hell by nazi-influenced flying wings of the horton ho 229 variety. and it just ramps up from there. one of the coolest elements of all dragon ball, is seeing the use of capsules in regards to war. every single soldier in this army has an entire fleet at their disposal. every single infantryman could, at the drop of a hat, whip out a tank or rocket launcher or attack helicopter from a tiny device on their belt. akira toriyama took full advantage of this to show off his mechanical designs for one of the only times in the franchise. seeing all these unique, detailed, and thoughtful designs episode to episode really showed off how interesting the dragon ball universe could be. from the chinese influenced landscapes, to the inter-war period tank designs. giant robots and mechanically interesting firearms. all wrapped up with amazing antagonists and the constant threat of world domination. nothing will ever come close to the red ribbon army arc for me. dragon ball Z and later series are fine, but you can't argue against the fact that they were very much influenced by other franchises at the time. the bulk of Z is basically a sci-fi heavy version of fist of the north star. but the original dragon ball was truly unique. nothing else comes close in terms of visual design, eastern influence and sense of scale and adventure.

    I actually have less problems with the U6 Saiyan's getting Super Saiyan like that because from my perspective it kinda makes sense that Goku and Vegeta would have turning into a Super Saiyan into a more exact process than "yeah just get real angry"
    I think the "feel for a tingle in your back" makes at least some sense when viewed from that angle. It's like a muscle they've learned to flex and are showing others how to flex said muscle.

    • @verakoo6187
      @verakoo6187 3 месяца назад

      Goku and Vegeta didn't teach them about the tingle in their back, they didn't even know about it, they still used anger.
      When Caulifla mentions it during the ToP, Goku says he had never thought about it like that.
      Vegeta taught Cabba SS by making him angry during the U6 tournament, and told him to hold on to the anger he felt so he could do it again.
      Cabba was the one who focused on the feeling and used that to teach Kale and Caulifla.
